1 STEWARDS REPORT Hawkesbury Race Club CLARENDON RACECOURSE Weather: Fine Track: Good (3) Rail: True Penetrometer: 4.83 Thursday 23 November 2017 STEWARDS: J J Earl (Chairman), R W Livingstone, T J Vassallo, D L Carr and cadet F T Dale (mkm) GENERAL: Stewards today interviewed licensed apprentice C Ings and her master Mrs W Ings relative to her non attendance at apprentice school on 13 November A letter was sent to apprentice Ings during the week notifying her that an official warning had been placed on her record for failing to attend. Apprentice Ings today was directed that she must make endeavours in the immediate future to ensure her enrolment in TAFE and, furthermore, in respect to whatever classes she has missed she must bring her work up to date. Apprentice Ings was advised that should she fail to attend apprentice school again without fair reason, action against her licence may be taken and, furthermore, the matter could be referred to the Racing NSW Licensing Department for consideration. RACE 1 Aveo Bella Vista Maiden Plate 1600m Metallic Spark slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Time To Rethink from its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners. Blame It On Paris began awkwardly and then raced keenly in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Giddy Up Venice near the 1000m was hampered and became unbalanced when tightened for room by Regal Rage (B Shinn) which shifted in marginally. B Shinn was advised to exercise more care. Next Witness A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 27.8 lengths, did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer T Rae was advised that Next Witness must barrier trial prior to its next race start. RACE 2 The Livamol Sprint Class 1 Handicap 1000m Sleepwalker slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Lady Moochi shortly after the start was checked when crowded for room between Valiant Mate and Black Chilli which was taken in by Lieutenant Dan which began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Black Chilli began awkwardly, shifted in and became unbalanced. Hung in badly from the 800m, proved difficult to ride and was unable to be tested in the straight. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G Markwell was advised that Black Chilli must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to its next race start. Rather Sweet raced wide without cover throughout. Valiant Mate When questioned rider B Shinn stated that his mount was inclined to lay out and passing the 200m was briefly disappointed for a run between Malzoom and Yeas And Nays which

2 shifted in slightly. He added that he was then obliged to shift his mount to the outside of Yeas And Nays after which Valiant Mate found the line well. RACE 3 Bradley Photographers Maiden Plate 1100m Whooshka slow to begin. Street Rogue slow to begin. Ocean Express When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, which was having its first race start today, A Hyeronimus stated that he was under no specific instructions other than to have his mount settle as it had a tendency to overrace in its barrier trials. He stated that after being slow to begin his mount was then crowded between Brix and Classic Princess which shifted in and as a result he was obliged to settle at the tail of the field. He said Ocean Express commenced to overrace badly and passing the 800m had to be checked off the heels of Brix. He said his mount continued to overrace badly thereafter and shortly after straightening had to be checked off the heels of A Boy Named Sioux and became unbalanced. He said that a short distance later he was reluctant to improve into clear running between A Boy Named Sioux and Classic Princess as he noticed Classic Princess was inclined to shift in passing the 200m. He said he did not place his mount under full pressure from 150m as the horse was well beaten at that stage and was not in contention for any of the placings. Stable representative J Webb confirmed the nature of the instructions and advised that Ocean Express would be stepped up in journey and ridden more aggressively at its next start to hopefully offset the manner in which it overraced in the early stages today. Mr Webb was advised that a warning would be placed on Ocean Express' record for its manners in the early and middle stages. A Hyeronimus was advised that notwithstanding Ocean Express had been difficult to ride, after initially being hampered on straightening he should have made more of an endeavour in the opinion of the Stewards to secure a run that eventuated to the inside of Classic Princess. Furthermore A Hyeronimus was advised that once clear near the 150m he must ensure that he places his mounts under full pressure to ensure they finish their races in the best possible place. Classic Princess raced greenly in the straight. Fame Shines raced wide without cover throughout. Rider C Reith stated that the only explanation he could offer for the poor performance was that his mount may not have appreciated today's firm track and may have jarred up. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. A Boy Named Sioux A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 23.5 lengths, did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer T Croft was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding's record for being uncompetitive. RACE 4 Irresistible Pools And Spas Provincial & Country Maiden Plate 1300m Russian Express slow to begin. Hinchman slow to begin. Was inclined to lay in in the straight. Our Celtic Star - shortly after the start was crowded for room between Albert of Monaco and Sun And Heir which in turn was taken in by Mo The Great. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race. Prodigy from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners to obtain cover. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Over the concluding stages was inclined to lay in. Reiby Rhymer raced keenly in the middle stages. Sun And Heir overraced in the early and middle stages. Mo The Great for some distance passing the 300m when racing tight to the inside of Hong Kong Lily became unbalanced and was inclined to lay out thereafter resulting in its rider B Avdulla having to pull the whip through into his left hand near the 150m.

3 Hong Kong Lily rider G Schofield advised that his mount led as expected however the condition of the horse, which was second up, gave out stepping up in distance. He added that in his opinion Hong Kong Lily would derive benefit from today's outing. Trainer T Bateup concurred with the views of G Schofield that the horse had not run out the 1300 metres and would drop the horse back in distance at its next start. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying heat stress. Trainer T Bateup was advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced prior to Hong Kong Lily's next race start. RACE 5 Pink Tie Ball March 24 Maiden Handicap 1300m Assioma began awkwardly. Approaching the 600m was briefly crowded by Serket which was taken in by Snitzel Day which shifted in slightly. Rider G Buckley advised that his mount resented its crossover noseband and as a result got its head up on jumping and began very awkwardly and did not muster speed despite being ridden along. He added that Assioma continued to resent the crossover noseband and failed to finish its race off. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Nathula from its wide barrier was shifted back in behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages. The Happy Lady from its wide barrier was shifted back in behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages. Was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Hostwin Zephyr began awkwardly. Snitzel Day began awkwardly, shifted in and hampered Lucky Hada. Rider J Collett pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that passing the 100m he permitted his mount to shift in whilst under riding when insufficiently clear of Snitzel Day which had to be steadied and lost its rightful running. J Collett's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 3 December 2017 and to expire on Monday 11 December 2017 on which day he may ride. Lucky Hada hung in in the straight. We Love Rugby passing the 100m was crowded for room between Pierino and Snitzel Day. RACE 6 Blacktown Workers Club Group F&M Benchmark 68 Handicap 1400m Sharpness to be ridden more forward; settled outside the leader. Ticked slow to begin. Popular from its wide barrier was shifted back in behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages. Save The Best from its wide barrier was shifted back in behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages. Tennessee Hussy raced keenly in the early stages. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in in the straight. RACE 7 Iron Jack CG&E Benchmark 67 Handicap 1400m Seasonal missed the start (2L). Near the 900m was tightened for room between Jagger and All Things In Time. Legistation raced wide without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to displaying a poor post race recovery. Trainer W Slinkard was advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced prior to the gelding's next race start.

4 All Things In Time from its wide barrier was shifted back in behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages. Near the 900m had to be checked away from the heels of Colonial Reign (app. J Van Overmeire) which shifted in marginally. Apprentice J Van Overmeire was told to exercise more care. Emperor's Way When questioned regarding his riding in the straight B Shinn explained that shortly after straightening he had attempted to improve into a narrow run between Hurricane Harbour and Lord Macau however when Lord Macau shifted out he was obliged to shift back to the inside of that runner in an endeavour to improve into clear running. He stated that he felt he was not sufficiently clear of Last Card Joe and therefore he did not persist with improving into that run. He said as a consequence he had to shift back to the outside of Hurricane Harbour to improve into clear running where his mount finished the race off strongly. B Shinn was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out fully to the finish wherever possible. Forever Dream rider T Clark stated that the only explanation he could offer for the poor performance was that his mount may not have appreciated today's firm track surface. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 8 Clarendon Tavern Benchmark 60 Handicap 2100m More Than Aholiday acting on a confirmed phone call from trainer M Dwyer that whilst en route to the course his float broke down, the horse was a late withdrawal at 3.55pm. Stradazzle from its wide barrier was shifted back in behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages. Overraced in the middle stages. When questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding, trainer W Slinkard advised that he felt that the horse, which was third up, was suited by stepping up in distance today and that Stradazzle runs its best races on its home track. I'm Bulletproof overraced in the early and middle stages. As I Do When questioned regarding the disappointing performance rider J Ford said that his mount travelled well throughout the early and middle stages but when placed under pressure near the 600m failed to respond to his riding and weakened noticeably in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a poor post race recovery. Stewards will follow up with trainer J Attard on the post race condition of the mare in the days subsequent whereby the stewards will give consideration to its immediate racing future. Capeabeel A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer B Widdup advised that the mare did not see out the journey of today's race and advised that the mare will now be spelled. First Courrier rider apprentice B Ryan pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for striking his mount on nine occasions prior to the 100m, four more than permitted under the rule. Apprentice B Ryan was fined $200.
