Dark Age Britain These are the armies of Post Roman Britain and the Age of Arthur. The armies are based upon those found in DBA. and Might of s. They have been modified based on research and gut instinct. Tables Explained Each list has an outline of a number of units. The following is an example unit: s Javelin ( ) -4 (-) 0mm At the top is the name of the unit. Str: is the combat strength of the unit. This number governs all forms of combat and morale, including rally. MV: is the amount that the unit may move with movement action. : is the armor save of this unit. : is a list of capabilities of the unit. The rules give a detailed description of what each mod is. It is a good idea to make a unit card for each unit in your army with detailed explanations on the effects of each capability of the unit. If the unit has a missile weapon, it is given as weapon (range in inches). Our example unit has Javelins with a range. : This shows the amount of troops available for that army. The first set of numbers (ie -) is the minimum and maximums available for a 0-point army. You must buy the minimum. Numbers in parentheses are the incremental increase for that unit for each 5 points. So in a basic army, you could purchase to Velites. In a 45 point army, you could purchase -5 Velites. 60 points brings the total up to -7 and so on. : The base depth of the troops and type. In our example 0mm/ is 0mm base depth and denote skirmisher. : is the cost of the unit in points. Some notes with a * are upgrades for that unit. This unit may add a Sling ed (4 ) for +4 points to the normal cost of the unit. Generals and Captains Each player gets commander per 5 points of army. The first commander is a General and the rest are Captains. In a 0 point game, for example, there is one General and one Captain.
Post-Roman British 400AD-450AD This army represents armies of Hadrian s Wall under King Coel Hen or Southern Britain under Vortigern or Vortimer. They existed just after the Roman withdrawal. These armies closely resemble the Late Imperial Roman y. Equites Alares.5-4 (-) Saxon Mercenaries (0-) 5mm Auxilia Str MV - 0mm Limitanni 4.5 Poor Spear Support -6 (-) 5mm.5 s mm
Dark Age British 450AD-650AD This is the army of the legendary King Arthur or the historical Ambrosius Aurelianus. The army has changed over time to match the Saxon tactics and no longer appears Roman in structure. *Noble Cavalry.5 Fear *Veteran (+ pts) 0- *Noble Infantry Spear Support *Veteran (+ pts) 0-5mm Cambrogi Cavalry.5-4 (-) Peydts Str 4 MV.5 Poor Support 4-0 (-5) 5mm.5 s 6+ * May select Cavalry OR Infantry but not both 0-0mm
Early Saxon 400AD-650AD This is the ground slogging army of all the Saxon Kings during the heroic age from Hengst to Aelle and beyond. This army arrived in Britannia by invitation from Vortigern and revolted c456 after a dispute over payment and supplies. Thanet was the original base but Kent was quickly overrun and within the century, new Saxon Kingdoms started to pop up all over Britannia. The enemy of God had arrived! Hearth Troops Veteran 5mm 4 Upper Class Warriors mm Lower Class Warriors (-5) 5mm Young Warriors Javelin ( ) 0-0mm
Dark Age Picts 400AD-650AD The Picts are a shadowy mysterious race with a trace relationship to the Irish. Known for being fierce warriors, these people were a constant threat to the Northern British Kingdoms throughout the Dark Ages. Pictish Noble Cavalry.5 - Pictish Light Cavalry 6+ Javelin ( ) - LC Pictish Warriors 4-0 (-5) 0mm Pictish Wild Men Fanatic Fear 0-0mm Pictish s (0-) 0mm
Dark Age Irish 400AD-650AD The Irish should not, on paper, be a real problem. There equipment, tactics and fighting style were completely outmoded by the modern Dark Age Standards. They, never the less, were a constant threat to both the British Kingdoms and the Kingdoms of the Picts. The most notable example of Irish fighting spirit was the conquest and formation of the Kingdom of Dal Riada in Scotland. The Irish were known as the Scoti to the Romans and that is where modern Scotland derives its name from. Ridiri na Sidhe (Riders of the Grave) 6+ Javelin ( ) 0- LC Cliathaire (Upper Class Warriors) mm Irish Chariot.5 4+ Fear Unreliable Vehicle *Veteran (+7 pts) 0- Vehicle 40mm Fianna (Landless Warriors) -6 (-) 0mm Cithernn (Irish Warriors) Poor -6 (-) Mob Ceithernn Slingers (-) 0mm
Non-Romanized Britons 40AD-650AD This army comes from a transplanted tribe of non-romanized Britons. Coel Henn ended years of war with a tribe called the Votadini whose lands lay just north of Hadrian s Wall. He allowed them to settle lands in Western Briton (Wales). In exchange for this land grant, they had to deal with incursions from the Irish who had a settlement in Demetia (Dyfed). This is the founding of Gwynedd under the Votadini King Cunedda. Teulu Cavalry.5 - Cambrogi Light Cavalry 6+ Javelin ( ) 0- LC Cambrogi Warriors 4-0 (-5) 0mm s (0-) 0mm
