2 Low Angle Rescue is 25 hrs. Scheduled Friday night Sunday late afternoon. This class meets and exceeds the National Fire Protection Associations (NFPA) Awareness Level requirements for Rescue. There is a complete lecture of equipment used in low angle rescues along with safety requirements in this class. Students will be taught knots used in rope rescue, anchoring techniques, raising and lowering systems using mechanical advantage systems, patient tie-in to the litter, low angle litter harness rigging and multiple low angle rescues. Dependent upon the class, a night operation scenario will be completed by students. Student requirements in order to attend class: Be physically able to walk up and down steep terrain. No rope knowledge is required since this is an entry level class. Even those with previous experience gain knowledge along with the beginner! 3 Rescue Technician I is 25 hrs. Scheduled Friday night-sunday late afternoon. This class focuses on raising and lowering pickoffs using mechanical advantage systems as well as rappelling techniques and rappelling pick-offs. Again there is review of knots, anchoring and emphasis placed on safety. There is a lecture reviewing equipment used in transferring someone off their rope onto your rigging in order to perform a safe rescue. Students will learn to pass a knot in rappel, in mechanical systems as well as ascending a rope with some basic equipment in order to meet some of the operations level of training, according to NFPA standards. Student requirements in order to attend class: Be physically able to walk up and down steep terrain. You must have attended Low Angle Rescue within the past year before being allowed into this higher level of training! 4 Rescue Technician II is 25 hrs. Scheduled Friday night-sunday late afternoon. This class spends many hours on vertical rescues using the litter. Students learn to rig the vertical harness, review knots used, and patient packaging into the litter, while suspended off a bluff or building. There are multiple vertical litter rescues that the students will complete. Again anchoring, mechanical advantage systems, pick-offs, ascending, directional uses all come into play in these types of rescues. Student requirements in order to attend class: Be able to walk up and down steep slopes and Successful Completions of Low Angle Rescue & Rescue Technician I within the past year. The rope Rescue Technician II class also introduces students to highlines. There will be a night operation dependent upon the class. 5 Rescue Technician I/II is an intensive 50 hr. class Scheduled Monday-Friday for those responders interested in completing Low Angle, Tech. I & II requirements in one week. This is usually more convenient for the paid department personnel instead of weekend training. Each student will receive written material, 1 medical CEU, certificate of completion from PRS, Inc. and TARS and all equipment such as harnesses, ropes ect PRS, inc. supplies for courses. You will be mailed information and prep work for class post registration and payment. 6 Rescue Technician III is a 40 hr. intensive class Scheduled Thursday morning-sunday Late Afternoon. This class challenges those students who have completed the Rescue Technician II level of training with various rescue scenarios. This class puts all of their knowledge, techniques and skills gained from previous classes to the test!. Several different types of highline techniques will be preformed by students every day. These skills directly relate to water rescue, confined space, tower rescues, trench rescue, Mtn. rescue, cave rescue and industrial rescues where rope skills are needed. Every site we go to is different each day so the student does not get comfortable with only one type of terrain or environment. The sites could include mountainous terrain, caves, water falls or buildings. This class meets the requirements for Rescue Technician according to NFPA standards. Student requirements in order to attend class: Be able to walk up and down steep slopes. Students must have completed Rescue Technician II within one year of the Tech. III class. Free Housing at Signal Mtn., TN. site Cost: $ TARS members / $ assoc. members of TARS / $ non-members of TARS The instructor for Rescue Technician III will be Jerry Smith owner and senior instructor, Progressive Rescue Solutions, Inc., President of American Safety And Rescue, co-author of CMC Rescue Manual, former school director & senior instructor for CMC/EMC Rescue School and has trained several hundred agencies around the world, rope rescue skills for over 25 years. The instructor for Low Angle Rescue, Rescue Technician I & II will be Pat Wagner, B.S. Fire & Safety Engineering; EMT-IV (TN.); firefighter/rescue for Waldens Ridge Emergency Service; ARRT local regional trauma center; Rescue Instructor 16 years and a former principal committee member for the NFPA Standard on Professional Rescue Technician Qualifications 1006 first edition as well as former search and rescue team leader.
