Rules 1.1 The race will be governed by the rules defined in the racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). 1.2 If there is conflict between the Notice of Race (NoR) and the Sailing Instructions the Sailing Instructions shall take precedence. This changes RRS A Special Regulations Checklist must have been completed on line before a yacht may start. 2. Notice to Competitors 2.1 The Official Notice Board (ONB) is the Group s website ( 3. Changes to Sailing instructions 3.1 Any changes to the sailing will be posted before 2000 on the day before it will take effect. 4. Signals made ashore 4.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed at the flagstaff behind the race officer s box. 5. Class Flags 5.1 The Class flags for the classes will be as follows: Class 3 Numeral Pennant 3 Class 4 Numeral Pennant 4 Class 5 Numeral Pennant 5 Class 6 Numeral Pennant Each yacht shall carry her class numeral pennant on her backstay as shown on the list of entries. 6. The Course 6.1 If the Green Flag is displayed Start Line (west to east) Snowden buoy, N W (leave to starboard) Kemps Quay (5D) pass to Port Darling Associates (5E) pass to Port East Lepe (3H) pass to Starboard Royal Thames (3S) pass to Port Caldwells Estate Agent (25) pass to Starboard
2 Finishing Line. Distance approx. 30 miles 6.2 If the Red Flag is displayed The course for all classes will be announced on VHF Channel M1 (37a) using the attached two digit list of buoys in Race 5 Appendix Areas that are Obstructions 7.1 Boats shall comply with Associated British Ports Notice to Marines No 3 of The Moving Prohibited Zone in the Precautionary Area which shall rank as an obstruction for the purposes of RRS 19 and 20. Boats shall avoid close quarters with any commercial vessel. 7.2 Boats, in whatever direction they are racing, shall not pass: i) North of the barrier off Durns Point, east of Lymington. ii) North of Horse Sand Fort. 7.3 Boats shall not anchor or kedge in the Cowes harbour fairway and in the area and in the area between Stone Point and Gurnard Bay on Admiralty Chart Gas and water pipes, telephone and electricity cables carrying 133,000 volts lie on the sea bed. 7.4 Boats shall keep a good look out for ferries and commercial traffic. 7.5 Whilst racing boats shall always pass to the north of the Cowes breakwater. 7.6 Boats shall not enter the exclusion zone in the vicinity of Yarmouth pier-head which is an obstruction to sea room. This Amendment is pursuant to Notice to Mariners 08/2018 a copy of which is attached (see Race 5 Appendix 3). 8. Identity Gate. 8.1 Before she starts each yacht (subject to draft) must pass between the beach and one of the Mooring Buoys approximately on the Starting Line in an East to West direction and receive visual acknowledgement before starting. 9. The Start 9.1 Races will be started as follows: Warning Preparatory 1 minute Start Class Numeral Pennant Square 0959 Square removed 1000 Class Triangle Point UP 1015 Square 1019 Square removed 1020 Class Triangle Point DOWN 1035 Square 1039 Square removed 1040 Class Circle 1055 Square 1059 Square removed 1100 This changes RRS The Starting Line is between the Gurnard buoy and a flagstaff behind the race officers box which is about 50m to the eastward of the New Holmwood Hotel, Egypt Point, Cowes. A JOG burgee may be flown. 9.3 If a Blue Flag is signalled, the Alternative Starting Line is the transit formed by a flagstaff behind the race officers box which is about 50m to the eastward of the New Holmwood Hotel, Egypt Point, Cowes and Gurnard buoy with the outer limit, not necessarily on the line, as North East Gurnard buoy. Yachts starting may pass either side of Gurnard buoy. 9.4 Individual Recalls will be signalled by a board painted as flag X. This changes Race Signals. 9.5 Sail numbers of individually recalled boats may be broadcast on VHF as soon as practical. Failure to hail, display or broadcast sail numbers shall not be grounds for redress. This changes RRS 62.1(a). 9.6 Boats whose warning signal has not been made shall avoid the starting area during the starting Sequence for the other races. 10. The Finishing Line The Finishing line will be an imaginary line between a staff displaying an orange flag on the eastern end of the Club Balcony and the Outer Distance Mark (9). See diagram in Appendix 1 which is not to be used for navigation. Leading boats only are requested to call JOG One on Ch 37a 30 minutes prior to finishing line. Take your finish time carefully. 3 the JOG Mobile as soon as possible with yacht name, sail number and finishing time text ). 11. Time Limit 11.1 The time limit for all boats shall be 2359hrs BST on Saturday 19 th May This changes RRS Protest and Requests for Redress 12.1 Boats shall notify the race committee by VHF at the end of the race that they intend to protest Protest forms are available from the Race Officer at the finish or the JOG Secretary at 12.3 Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered within 120 minutes of the yacht finishing the race. 13. Scoring 13.1 See Notice of Race Instruction Results will be also included in the Category 4 overall results. 14. Retirements and Withdrawals 14.1 Retirements and Withdrawals must be advised on VHF Channel M1 (37a) at the start and finish call sign JOG One. Remember that we are only allowed to operate on low power so you may not be able to hear our response to your transmission. Please transmit your message even if there is apparently no reply. The Race Officers can be contacted on Mobile , or telephone , (24 hr Voic ) Retiring yachts must complete their online declaration, indicating their reason for retirement. Failure to report in may lead to an unnecessary call to the SAR Services. 15. Radio Communication 15.1 All communications at the start and finish will be on VHF Channel M1 (37a) call sign JOG One Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. 16. Declaration 16.1 The online declaration can be found on the website under manage my races and bookings. The finishing time must be carefully recorded. 17. Disclaimer of Liability 17.1 Competitors participate in the Race entirely at their own risk. See RRS4, Decision to race. The organising authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. 18. Insurance 18.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with a valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of 2,000,000 per incident or the equivalent.

8 NOTES FOR COMPETITORS 1 Remember to leave your crew list with the person named on your entry form and ensure that they are briefed as to the telephone numbers available. 2. CREW AVAILABLE. Please see JOG website or Facebook. JOG advises all applicant crew and skippers that in providing this list it is not warranting the seaworthiness of yachts or the competence of crew or skippers. Applicants should satisfy themselves as to seaworthiness and competence and should also make their own insurance arrangements. 3. A brief note or report on the declaration form or preferably a separate to the Secretary of any "interesting moments" during the race would be much appreciated. All suitable individual race reports and pictures will appear on the website. 4. Provisional results will be posted on the website as soon possible after the race. 5. The designated watering hole will be The Royal Solent Yacht Club. 6. The next Category 4 race will be the Yarmouth to Cowes Race on 20 th May followed by the Cowes to Portland Race on Saturday 21 st July. The next Category 4 Race on the 25 th May to Cowes to Dielette via Guernsey Race. 7. The Committee encourage you to persuade your crew to become members of JOG and a membership form is attached. 8. A special prize will be awarded to the best Royal Wedding boat, extra points will be given for outfits worn whilst racing. 9. Food at Royal Solent: see below for menu. Prior to starting competitors are requested to raise their mainsail on rounding the end of the Pier, sail close to the Yellow Spherical Buoy approximately on the start line in a West to East direction showing your sail number for identification by the Race Officers. 22. The Start 22.1 Races will be started as follows: Warning Preparatory 1 minute Start Class Numeral Pennant Square 0859 Square removed 0900 Class Triangle Point UP 0910 Square 0914 Square removed 0915 Class Triangle Point DOWN 0925 Square 0929 Square removed 0930 Class Circle 0940 Square 0944 Square removed 0945 This changes RRS The Starting Line at Grants is approximately 200 metres to the east of the Royal Solent Yacht Club. The starting line is formed by bringing the signal flagstaff bearing a horizontally striped orange and white diamond shape into line with a white post topped with a white diamond framed orange cross which is about 15 metres to seaward from the sea wall. A JOG burgee may be flown The Outer Distance Mark is a yellow cylindrical buoy marked with 9 in black, George Hotel in black thereon with a yellow X top-mark, located approximately 450 metres northwards of the signal flagstaff Sail numbers of individually recalled boats may be broadcast on VHF as soon as practical.
