1 1 STEWARDS REPORT Australian Turf Club WARWICK FARM RACECOURSE Wednesday 24 December 2014 Weather: Overcast Track: Good (3) Rail: +3m Penetrometer: 4.49 STEWARDS: R W Livingstone (Chairman), R P Murrihy, M F Van Gestel and cadets T A McDonald and C D Lock Supplementary Reports: ROYAL RANDWICK Tuesday 23 December 2014 Frog And A Prayer Stewards today interviewed co-trainer Mr Peter Snowden relative to the two-year-old filly breaking down and subsequently being euthanised following trackwork. Evidence today was taken from Mr Snowden, who advised that Frog And A Prayer had had no issues in its preparations leading up to yesterday s incident. A report from Dr Gary Baitz was tendered, which showed a diagnosis that a fractured pelvis was the likely injury and subsequent to this a haemorrhage within the pelvic space became apparent and as such, on humane grounds, when the filly s condition deteriorated, it was euthanised. As the Stewards were satisfied there was no pre-existing condition that could have caused or contributed to the incident, the matter was concluded. ROSEHILL GARDENS Saturday 20 December 2014 Race 3: Drummond Golf Handicap 1400m Index Linked trainer Mr C Waller advised the gelding had pulled up well and a veterinary examination had not revealed any abnormalities subsequent to its disappointing run. Mr Waller indicated Index Linked would be stepped up in distance at its next start. ROYAL RANDWICK Saturday 13 December 2014 Race 8: ATC Autumn Hospitality On Sale Handicap 1400m Whitten s Delight licensed jockey M Neilson was fined the sum of $200, after pleading guilty to an offence under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) of having used the whip in a forehand manner on more than five occasions (two additional) prior to the 100m. RACE 1: TAB Place Multi Handicap 1600m Herne s Oak trainer Mr B Baker, represented by Mr J Clark, was fined the sum of $100 under LR46A for failing to present the colt on course by the prescribed time. Began awkwardly. Invinzabeel overraced in the middle stages. Briefly held up rounding the home turn. Standoubt rider T Angland explained that the gelding is somewhat one-paced and that he was unable to get to the outside to improve as early as he would have liked and, with the race developing into a sprint home, Standoubt was not able to quicken and was left flat-footed. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

2 RACE 2: Bloodstock.com.au Handicap 1400m Impressive Yield slow to begin. Via Facile momentarily held up rounding the home turn. 2 Koroibete near the 50m was briefly tightened when Impressive Yield hung in and rider P Hammersley was obliged to stop riding and straighten. Doubtful Miss which was weakening, approaching the winning post, was eased when briefly crowded by L Academie De Joie. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Redhawks rider P King explained he was under no specific instructions, however, was able to obtain a position just behind the leaders. He added from the 500m he attempted to trail the ultimate winner, Episodes, into the race, but Redhawks did not finish its race off as expected when under pressure and was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have blood in the near-side nostril and was displaying respiratory distress. Trainer Mr J Pride was advised Redhawks would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward and he would be required to furnish a veterinary certificate, including the results of a satisfactory endoscopic examination, prior to the gelding racing again. A subsequent endoscopic examination revealed the presence of blood in the lower airways. Mr Pride advised Redhawks will now be retired. RACE 3: Testa Vinery Handicap 1100m Kipling slow to begin. Manhattan Island raced greenly in the early and middle stages. Va Va Veni App. W Costin explained that she had anticipated being prominent, however, the gelding did not begin the best and was subsequently crossed quickly. She added Va Va Veni did not travel comfortably at any stage and was most disappointing in its failure to run on in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr M Costa was advised a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, would be required prior to Va Va Veni trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards. RACE 4: TAB Rewards Plate 1200m Casino Swoop which had a longstanding healing wound to the front of its near hind cannon, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Aroused bumped Fight To The Line at the start. Fight To The Line bumped Aroused at the start. Spice Of Life stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground (3L). Trainer Mr D Vandyke was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding. Briefly tightened for room, after improving into a narrow run between Citations and Aroused, which shifted in slightly.

3 3 RACE 5: Cal Rei Handicap 2400m Loncava was a late withdrawal, on veterinary advice, at 2.50pm, after it was found the gelding had sustained an injury to its mouth en route to the course. Stable representative Mr B Wintle was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again. Blazing Dragon near the 250m was bumped by Plutorius, which shifted out. Roaming Around was checked of the heels of the weakening Sunguera approaching the 600m. Al Farafir briefly held up rounding the home turn. Perplexity rider H Bowman explained that, whilst he had to make some use of his mount in the early stages from his wide draw, the gelding travelled will thereafter. He added, in his opinion, Perplexity did not run out the 2400m of today s journey. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller undertook to report on the progress of Perplexity, however advised the gelding will now be spelled. Sunguera rider T Huet explained he was under no specific instructions, however, the gelding began very well and, whilst he tried to obtain a position midfield with cover, when caught wide he was obliged to allow the gelding to stride forward and raced outside the lead. He added the gelding weakened badly from the 900m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr D Vandyke was advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, would be required prior to Sunguera trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Mr Vandyke advised Sunguera will now be spelled. RACE 6: Pro-Ride Handicap 1100m Slainte trainer Mr L Davies was fined the sum of $200 under LR35(1) for failing to declare K O'Hara as the rider of the mare. Eased off the heels of Patinage near the 400m, which shifted out slightly. Princess Henrietta correct weight was delayed to enable the Stewards to view the patrol films, whereby it was ascertained that, as the start was effected, the mare refused to jump with the field and took no part in the race. As Princess Henrietta was afforded every opportunity to jump, the Stewards declared the mare a runner. Trainer Mr R Pearse advised at its most recent start at Wyong on 18 December 2014, when it was a late withdrawal, Princess Henrietta was involved in a barrier mishap when a horse in an adjoining barrier reared over and made contact with her on a number of occasions. He added he would now consult with the owners and advise the Stewards of the future racing plans for the mare. Notwithstanding this the Stewards ordered that the mare must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Azulejos slow to begin. Hard To Hold knuckled over badly on jumping. Zerez hampered shortly after the start when Patinage shifted in.

4 4 Highly Geared awkward on heels near the 400m. App. W Costin explained that the mare began very well, however, was unable to muster sufficient speed to cross from her outside barrier and, consequently, was left racing wide without cover. She added that, in her view, Highly Geared is a mare that races best when able to dictate terms. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr G Kirkup concurred with the thoughts of the rider. He added that the mare did not show the usual speed out of the gates and raced flat. He indicated the intention is to send the mare for a spell. RACE 7: TAB.COM.AU Handicap 1600m Akamas which sustained an abrasion to its near-foreleg in its stable overnight, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and found to be unfit to start, due to swelling and abrasions to the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr D Vandyke was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again. Alfiler as App. L Grace was injured, permission was granted for App. T Marshall to be substituted as the rider of the gelding. Began awkwardly. Fastnet Flyer slow to begin. Steadied off the heels when overracing near the 900m when crowded by Little Grammy (T Huet). T Huet was reprimanded. Emerald City Held up rounding the home turn. Hypernicus hampered on jumping when crowded by Emerald City, which shifted out in. Roman Desire overraced in the early and middle stages and, when awkwardly placed on heels, shifted in and hampered Fastnet Flyer near the 1400m. Bumped near the 250m. Man Of Colours bumped near the 250m when tightened for room by Emerald City (B Shinn), which shifted out. B Shinn was advised to exercise more care. GENERAL: Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners: Race 1: Redoubtable Heart, Our Catch, Herne s Oak (2), Got You Double, Invinzabeel, Wildenstein. Race 2: Koroibete, Smart Moochi, LÁcademie De Joie, Episodes (2), Redhawks. Race 3: Va Va Veni, Hebden (2), Kipling. Race 4: Citations, Casino Swoop, Spice Of Life, Fight To The Line. Race 5: Blazing Dragon, Retort Courteous, Roaming Around, Loncava, Al Farafir, Husson Choice. Race 6: Moneylegs, Highly Geared, Rossa May, Zerez, Magic Jewel. Race 7: Alfiler, Darci s Affair.
