1 Members of the Northwest Georgia Regional Fair Board are excited that you are planning to par cipate in this year s Fair! Plans have been made well in advance in hopes of making this the best year ever! As with every event involving youth, safety is the number one concern. During your me in the livestock barn, please stay aware of your surroundings. We have added to and changed some of the following informa on regarding the shows and contest. Please read the next paragraph, General Rules and informa on on the Division you wish to enter. We look forward to see you and your livestock project at the Fair. Best of luck! Coordinators are Bob Bridges Poultry and Rabbit Exhibits, Jason Duggin, UGA Animal & Dairy Science Livestock Judging Contest and Timothy Street, Gordon County 4 H Livestock Coordinator Market Goat, Market Lamb, Breeding Heifer, Market Steer, Market Hog, and Breeding Gilt. Exhibitor s Pass Each exhibitor will receive a total of three entrance and one vehicle pass; vehicles must park in regular parking area once animals are unloaded. Health Regula ons (Requirement for the Exhibi on of Livestock in Georgia) All animals being exhibited in any type of livestock show (local, county, area, district or state) must have an official cer ficate of veterinary inspec on (health cer ficate). This cer ficate of veterinary inspec on must be issued within 30 days of the exhibi on with the excep on of 4 H and FFA shows. See the current year Georgia 4 H and FFA State Livestock Shows Rules and Regula ons for specific informa on for 4 H and FFA health cer ficates. All other livestock exhibitors must follow rules and regula ons as outlined in the Health Requirement for Exhibi on of Livestock in Georgia, revised October 7, 2003, from the Georgia Department of Agriculture. No animals will be allowed entry onto the fairgrounds without the proper health records and test requirements. Entry form is linked on the web page and shown as Livestock Entry Form. General Rules (Applicable to all Livestock) All entries shall be classified immediately upon arrival and classifica on cannot be changed. All livestock and poultry must conform to Health Regula ons as outlined above. All livestock may be subject to health inspec on by an Official State Veterinarian. The livestock barn will be open during fair opera on hours. See Barn Schedule for check in and show mes. Livestock must remain in the barn un l 9:30 p.m. following the species show unless otherwise specified. An exhibitor may enter as many animals to show as they choose, but may not have more than two entries in any one class in compeon for prize money. The contestants must be present at me of judging or make prior arrangements to have their animals shown due to an excuse approved by the show commi ee. Ribbons will accompany premium awards. All premiums will be paid by the Northwest Georgia Regional Fair. All livestock must have a creditable showing in order to qualify to receive a premium. Where there is no compeon in a class and champion showing, either second prize or reserve champion money may be given. Each exhibitor must furnish their own feed, feed pan, water pail and show supplies. The fair will furnish the bedding, electric power and water supply. It is the responsibility of each exhibitor to feed, water, clean up a er their animals and provide the general care for their animals while at the fair. Waste must be disposed of in a mely ma er at the designated site behind the right side of the livestock barn. Veterinarian service for all animals while at the fair will be made available at the owner s expense. The fair will not be responsible for loss or damage to any exhibit and will give the best care and a en on to prevent loss or damage.
2 General Rules (Applicable to all Livestock) (con nued) There will be showmanship classes. We shall honor the Statement of Rela on (Memorandum of Understanding) between Voca onal Educa on and the Coopera ve Extension which is considered the official agreement. This agreement guides 4 H and FFA par cipa on in events. The intent of the agreement is to support youth par cipa ng in both organiza ons with different project areas and to disallow a young person compe ng in both organiza ons with the same project area in the same year. Applica on for all livestock entries must be postmarked no later than August 24, Entry fees are non refundable; this includes the livestock judging contest. Mail all market goat, market lamb, breeding heifer, market steer, market hog, and breeding gilt entry forms to Northwest Georgia Regional Fair, P.O. Box 414, Calhoun, Georgia 3070 Checks for the aforemen oned events should be made payable to Northwest Georgia Regional Fair. To enter poultry or rabbit shows, contact Bob Bridges at P. O. Box 1131, Calhoun, Georgia 3070 All animals must be registered (or registra on must be applied for) in the name of the exhibitor prior to fair me. Coordinators reserve the right to disqualify any animal on the basics of health concerns due to fungus, warts, etc. DIVISION A MARKET GOAT SHOW Check in will be from 2:00 p.m. un l 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8th; the market goat show will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8th. Showmanship Classes: For showmanship, exhibitors will be classified based on grade level as of September 1, 2018; Showmanship Class will be broke down by grade levels. Premiums are as follows: 1st place $ nd place $ rd place $10.00 All Other Placements $5.00 Market Classes: Classes will be comprised according to weight range and then by number of entries received in that range. Premiums are as follows: Division Market Classes: Providing enough entries are received, there will be a division class following every third market class. Premiums are as follows: Division Champion $20.00 Reserve Division Champion $15.00 Grand and Reserve Grand Champions: Grand and Reserve Grand Champions will be selected from class, or if applicable, division winners. Premiums are as follows: Grand Champion $50.00 Reserve Grand Champion $40.00
3 DIVISION B MARKET LAMB SHOW Check in will be from 3:00 un l 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 10th; the show will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 10th. Showmanship Classes: For showmanship, exhibitors will be classified based on grade level as of September 1, 2018; Showmanship Class will be broke down by grade levels. Premiums are as follows: 1st place $ nd place $ rd place $10.00 All Other Placements $5.00 Market Classes: Classes will be comprised according to weight range and then by number of entries received in that range. Premiums are as follows: Division Market Classes: Providing enough entries are received, there will be a division class following every third market class. Premiums are as follows: In the Junior Beef Ca le Show, five or more of any breed will cons tute a division. Premiums are as follows: Division Champion $20.00 Reserve Division Champion $15.00
4 DIVISION C BREEDING HEIFER AND MARKET STEER SHOW Steer Classes: Classes will be shown by weight range and then by number of entries received in that range. Premiums are as follows: Division Classes: Providing enough entries are received, there will be a division class following every third market class. Premiums are as follows: Division Champion $20.00 Reserve Division Champion $15.00 Grand and Reserve Grand Champions: Grand and Reserve Grand Champions will be selected from class, or if applicable, division winners. A Grand and Reserve Champion will be selected for Heifer (Registered), Commercial and Steer. Premiums are as follows: Grand Champion $50.00 Reserve Grand Champion $40.00 DIVISION D LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST Contest is scheduled for Thursday, September 13th at 4:00 p.m. with registra on beginning at 3:30 p.m. Contest Commi ee Jason Duggin, UGA Animal & Dairy Science and Allie Griner, Gordon County 4 H Agent The contest is limited to enrolled 4 H and FFA members. Please have all registered contestants arrive by 3:30 p.m. on the day of contest as we will start at 4:00 p.m. This will be an individual only contest. There will be no team scores calculated and no team awards. There will be both a Junior (4th 8th grade) and Senior Division (9th 12th grade). Individuals will judge one class of swine, three classes of beef ca le and two classes of sheep/goats. Classes are subject to change. There will also be one EPD class and one set of ques ons. No reasons will be required on any class. 4 H and FFA show animals will be used sparingly. Every effort will be made to assemble fair classes of animals that have not been previously exhibited. Ten minutes will be allowed for judging each class. All individuals must be pre registered using the entry form provided. to Allie Griner (allie723@uga.edu) and Jason Duggin (jduggin@uga.edu) Entry fees are $5.00 per contestant. 4 H and FFA programs can register on behalf of the student contestants. Checks should be made payable to Northwest Georgia Regional Fair. Awards will be given to the top 10 individuals in each of the two Divisions, Junior and Senior.
5 DIVISION D LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST Individual awards will be given as follows: 1st place $ nd place $ rd place $300 4th place $ th place $ th place $ th place $ th place $100 9th place $ th place $10.00 Ties for individual awards will be broken using the following method: first e highest score on ques on session second e highest score on beef breeding class third e highest score on swine breeding class fourth e highest score on sheep breeding class fi h e highest score on EPD placing class DIVISION E HOG SHOW Check in will be from 1:00 pm un l 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15th; the show will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 15th. There will be no Boar classes. All entries will be classified as either market hog or breeding gilt entries; no animal is allowed to be shown in both. All gilt classes will be weighed at check in and divided into classes according to that weight. All market hogs will be weighed at check in and divided into classes according to that weight. 6 DIVISION E HOG SHOW Breeding Gilt Classes: Classes will be comprised according to weight and then by number of entries received in that range. Premiums are as follows: Grand and Reserve Grand Champions: Grand and Reserve Grand Champions will be selected from class winners. Premiums are as follows: Grand Champion Market Hog $50.00 Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog $40.00 Champion Breeding Gilt $50.00 Reserve Champion Breeding Gilt $40.00 DIVISION F POULTRY CONTEST Neither Northwest Georgia Regional Fair nor Northwest Georgia Poultry Club is responsible for lost birds or accidents. All care and protec on will be applied. Show ques ons should be directed to Bob Bridges at Entry $50 per bird (tes ng included). All birds will be pullorum typhoid tested by the Georgia Poultry lab; no sick or unhealthy bird will be accepted. Birds will be tested by the State Tester. Checks should be made payable to Northwest Georgia Regional Fair. Please call Bob Bridges at or him at bobbridges49@gmail.com with a complete lis ng of what birds you will be entering prior to Sunday, September 9th; this will greatly help with the process. You may pay your fee on that Sunday as well. Judging will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9th. All fees must be paid prior to judging. Check in will be on Saturday, September 8th a er 2:00 p.m. un l fair closing and Sunday, September 9th from 1:00 p.m. un l 3:00 p.m. All birds must stay un l the following Saturday, September 15th (last day of Fair) un l 8:30 p.m. Open Show Compeon Bantams will be judged under the 7 classes of bantams, Modern, American and Old English game, Any Other Comb, Single Comb, Feather Leg, Rose Comb and Bantam Duck. Junior Show Compeon You must be 18 years or younger; judging will be the same as Open Show. Juniors may enter the Open Show; however, birds must be different. Large Fowl Both adults and juniors may enter. Birds will be entered by Breed, Variety (color) and sex; Cock and Hen one year old or older; Cockerel and Pullet less than one year old. APA and ABA standards will be used for judging with judge s decision final. Any situa on not covered will be handled by club members. Premiums for Open Bantam Show are as follows: Champion $25.00 plus award Reserve Champion $20.00 plus award
7 DIVISION F POULTRY CONTEST Premiums for Junior Show are as follows: Champion $25.00 plus award Reserve Champion $20.00 plus award Premiums for Large Fowl are as follows: Large Fowl Champion $25.00 plus award Reserve Large Fowl $20.00 plus award Premiums will be awarded if there are five or more birds of the same breed and variety in a class and are as follows: 1st place $4.00 2nd place $00 3rd place $00 4th place $00 Please leave ribbons won on the cages un l Saturday, September 15th, if lost or stolen, they will be replaced. Premiums will be distributed on Saturday evening, September 15th before check out. DIVISION G RABBIT CONTEST Show ques ons should be directed to Bob Bridges at Bring water bo le and feed cup for rabbits; rabbit feed and cage will be furnished.
