2 800 and 800-H Series Service Regulators 0 lster merican Meter The 800 Series pressure regulators are designed to control natural gas, air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, propane vapor, and other non-corrosive gases in residential, light commercial, and small industrial applications. General Information Outlet pressures between.5" W.. and PSIG are available. Operating temperature range is -0 F to 50 F (-0 to 65 ). Maximum flow rate is 500 SFH (70.8 m /h). ll models conform to NSI ode , and G Service-Type Regulator Specification N/G-6.8-M95. Features Variety of interchangeable orifices and spring ranges 90 egree (Right ngle), 80 egree (Straight-Flow), or Offset Valve ody (See photo on next page) Wide range of valve body connection sizes Options Vent lbow The regulator vent opening should face downward (6 o'clock) to minimize the chance of blockage from ice and snow. 3 800 and 800-H Series Service Regulators 0 lster merican Meter When the outlet pressure exceeds the OPSO set point, the pressure under the OPSO diaphragm plate () compresses the pressure spring () forcing the diaphragm stem () upwards and releasing plunger (). This permits the shut-off spring (F) to force the shut-off disc (G) against the back side of the special double-ended orifice. OPSO iaphragm Plate Pressure Spring ap Plunger iaphragm Stem F Shut-off Spring G Shut-off isc H djusting Screw Underpressure Shutoff (UPSO) The 8, 8, 85, and the 89 regulators come equipped with an underpressure shutoff (UPSO) device which utilizes a spring loaded valve stem and o-ring assembly within an orifice body. It will shut off gas flow through the regulator in the event of an upstream underpressure condition. UPSO in the Open position Under normal operating conditions, gas flows through the orifice from the high pressure upstream to the low pressure downstream. If conditions should change to cause the upstream pressure to decrease, the plunger and seat disk assembly will move away from the orifice thereby opening up the regulator to compensate for the lower inlet pressure. The spring in the Underpressure Shutoff will push the valve stem assembly up against the face of the seat disk. ventually the valve stem s o-ring will make contact with the inner wall of the orifice and completely shut off the gas flow. H F G UPSO in the losed position When the inlet underpressure condition has been corrected or repaired, the UPSO must be manually reset to allow gas flow. Reset is done by unscrewing the seal plug and pulling up on the diaphragm stem. This will open the Underpressure Shutoff and allow gas to flow. Seal Plug This type of design allows service maintenance to be performed to downstream appliances before pressure is introduced, i.e. lighting the pilot light, closing valves, etc. In some cases downstream failure may result in the regulator shutting off. xcessive flow may result in a decrease in downstream pressure which opens the seat disk away from the orifice until the Underpressure Shutoff takes over and shuts the regulator off. Other Gas apacities To determine the capacity of these regulators for gases other than natural gas, multiply the values within the capacity tables by a Specific Gravity onversion Factor (F g). The table below lists this factor for some of the more common gases. Maximum recommended pressure may vary with orifice size. 75 PSIG ( bar) = Maximum inlet pressure for abnormal or emergency service, without causing damage to regulator case. PSIG (8 mbar) = Maximum outlet pressure for normal service. 0 PSIG (689 mbar) = Maximum outlet pressure which can be contained by pressure carrying components (no flange leakage to atmosphere except for normal relief action). If regulator is subjected to these conditions, it should be removed from service. 50 PSIG (.5 bar) = Maximum outlet pressure for abnormal service without damage to internal components. If regulator is subjected to these conditions, it should be removed from service.

The worst case scenario will occur when the lever is disconnected. The data presented in the tables below represent this condition. General Information Limited Relief is accomplished by installing a relief restriction cup inside the diaphragm assembly of the 8 regulator. The 8-L regulator utilizes overpressure protection as part of its assembly, which will shut off the gas in the event of over pressure condition. 18 800P Service Regulators General Information The merican Meter Series 800P pressure regulator is designed for natural gas applications and features a compact, lightweight design for fast, easy installation. The 800P regulator consists of a main regulator and a pilot regulator. It is a downstream bleed, pressure loaded regulator, designed to provide stability of operation for precise and constant outlet metering pressure control. The regulator is capable of handling varying inlet pressures up to 5 PSIG while controlling a set constant outlet pressure ( to 0 PSIG) within % of the absolute set pressure over a wide range of flow rates. The main regulator is normally closed, furnished with one spring (for all outlet pressures) to close the regulator if loading pressure fails. The pilot regulator outlet line mounts to the main regulator vent and connection tubing brings the main regulator inlet pressure to the pilot regulator inlet. The pilot regulator (one spring controls all outlet pressures from PSIG to 0 PSIG) is used to load pressure on the diaphragm of the main regulator. djustment of the pilot regulator depends upon the inlet pressure and outlet pressure range desired. The pilot regulator using upstream pressure as its supply, reduces this pressure to a predetermined value and then loads the main regulator diaphragm. The loading pressure overcomes the force of the main regulator spring causing the main regulator to open. pplication The 800P regulator is designed for pressure reducing service requiring stability and metering accuracy. They are used on gas distribution systems as intermediate or low pressure regulators. They are also effective for large farm and commercial operations with widely varying inlet pressures up to 5 PSIG with accurate control of outlet pressures between PSIG and 0 PSIG. 800P regulators are excellent for use with merican Meter large capacity meters as well as with merican Meter domestic meters. Model 88P is equipped with overpressure shut-off (OPSO) that provides protection against downstream overpressure (see page 6). The 800P regulator will accurately control the metering pressure to a constant value, thus the pressure correction factor becomes a constant factor for a given metering pressure. The pressure-corrected volume equals meter volume multiplied by the pressure factor constant. xclusive, 7 - Step orrosion Protection The protective finish on the Series 800P regulators resists corrosive effects of weather and harsh environments better than any other in the industry. ach precision die cast aluminum regulator is treated-inside and out-with a special conversion coating that's part of an exclusive, 7-step finishing process. This coating greatly inhibits oxidation of the metal's surface that can eventually compromise the integrity of the metal. This provides maximum strength to withstand installation stresses without damage and prevents thread galling experienced with aluminum. 19 800P Service Regulators Fixed Factor Measurement Fixed factor measurement is the measurement of gas at a controlled elevated pressure without the use of an automatic correcting device to correct the volume for variations from base or contract pressure. The 800P regulator provides accurately controlled, constant metering pressure for this application. Volume of gas being metered at other than base pressure, must be corrected to base or contract conditions. The merican Gas ssociation specifies that a cubic foot of gas at base conditions be defined as the quantity which occupies a volume of one cubic foot at a pressure of.7 PSI and at a temperature of 60 F. Therefore to determine the volume of gas at medium or high pressure, the volume must be corrected to base or contract pressure. 26 merican Meter Series 800 and 000 Worker/Monitor Regulators Worker/Monitor sets are commonly used to provide overpressure protection. worker/monitor installation consists of a monitor with an external static connection and a worker with an internal static connection. The regulator selected to be the monitor is set at " to 5" w.c. above the worker. The external static connection is connected at a point free of turbulence and preferably a minimum of five pipe diameters downstream. Improved Features 800 and 000 Series Monitor onversion merican Meter offers four industrial monitor regulators the 80M, 00M, 88M and 08M. esign improvements now enable all models to be configured as Monitor Regulators. This change was effective with all 800 and 000 Series Regulators manufactured after January 99. 29 merican Meter UPSO OPSO OUPSO Regulator Safety Features vailable xclusively From merican Meter On Series 800 and 000 Industrial Regulators Pressure control and automatic shutoff devices for the protection of public buildings, schools, theaters, hospitals, etc. are available in one complete package on several 800 and 000 Series Industrial Regulator models (see page 5). Installing one of these regulators provides automatic protection against possible extreme variations in either inlet or outlet gas pressure. UPSO The UPSO (underpressure shutoff) models provide complete shutoff protection in case of severely interrupted inlet gas pressure. If the inlet or outlet pressure is severely interrupted, causing the regulator to stroke to a full-open position, the shutoff closes, providing complete system safety. The shutoff valve remains closed until manually reset. How The UPSO Operates When gas pressure under the main diaphragm falls below normal, the shutoff device is tripped and the spring, connected with the valve plunger, forces the valve seat against the orifice closing off gas flow. The UPSO must be manually reset to re-establish gas flow. Figure To reset the underpressure shutoff device (Figure ), unscrew the reset plug with a wrench. When it becomes free of the threads, pull it out until it engages the reset mechanism. With the wrench, turn the reset shaft clockwise until the reset mechanism is engaged. Hold firmly in this position until normal pressure is established under the diaphragm and downstream line, and regulator operation is restored. Screw in the reset plug and tighten. Overpressure Shutoff (OPSO) in cocked position Overpressure Shutoff (OPSO) in tripped position OPSO Overpressure shutoff regulator models prevent excessive gas pressure from entering a building causing a hazardous condition. The shutoff device closes if the regulator outlet pressure rises above a maximum set point or set pressure. How The OPSO Operates When line or static pressure increases to the specified overpressure shutoff setting, the pressure on the under side of the shutoff diaphragm over-balances the spring, forcing the diaphragm stem outward, releasing the plunger. This permits the shutoff spring to force the shutoff disc against the orifice, closing off gas flow. The OPSO assembly is part of the regulator but is not connected to the regulator operating mechanism. When selecting a shutoff spring, a minimum differential of " w.c. between normal operating pressures and the shutoff pressure setting should be provided. To reset the overpressure shutoff device, unscrew the seal cap, which opens the regulator orifice, permitting gas flow. Pull out on the seal cap until the overpressure shutoff device latches completely. Tighten the seal cap. o not trip the shutoff valve unless the seal cap is installed. OUPSO Overpressure and underpressure shutoff models combine both safety features for maximum protection. On these models, when the OPSO shuts off, the UPSO automatically trips, providing double assurance of positive gas shutoff. The overpressure shutoff device must be reset first followed by resetting the underpressure shutoff device. 5
