1 T H O R O U G H B R E D R A C I N G STEWARDS REPORT MEETING HELD AT NORTHAM RACE CLUB ON THURSDAY, 13 OCTOBER 2016 Meeting No: 58 Weather: Fine Track: Good (3) Penetrometer: 6.3 Rail: Out 5 metres from the 1600m to the 1000m, 7m from the 1000m to the 400m Cutaway to 3 metres in the straight Stewards: Veterinary Surgeon: Medical Officer: CD Brown (MT), RJ Mance (SR), DJ Mead (FL), ML Vickers (HO/Gear) T Rendell (FA/BA) Dr E Vidler Dr K Christianson RACE 1: MAIDEN M ROYAL COMMAND Fractious in its barrier prior to the start. SECRET RIVER - Slow into stride losing three lengths. Lay outwards over the final 100m. THE PAUA FRITTER - Raced wide throughout. JAZINDI Raced greenly in the straight. KARLAKEE MISS Rider reported that the filly lay outwards in the straight. CINDERELLA'S DREAM Lay inwards in the straight. FOREVER FAMOUS Lay inwards in the straight. RACE 2: SPRING RACING IN THE AVON VALLEY MAIDEN M CLAPPA THUNDER - Raced wide throughout. TIME STREAM Impeded and taken inwards passing the 300m. Brushed with another runner over the final stages. ON A DIME Bumped shortly after the start. Lay inwards in the straight. SLICK MOVER - Raced wide throughout. MY GRACE Bumped and buffeted shortly after the start. CONICAL PEAK Became fractious in its barrier prior to the start and after being removed and undergoing a veterinary examination was found to have a minor abrasion to its head, however was passed fit to start. Slow into stride losing one length. Lay outwards and raced greenly in the straight and as a result had to be steadied passing the 300m. PEARL A DECOY - Commenced awkwardly and bumped. RUNS TO PARADISE Raced in restricted room and impeded and brushed with another runner over the concluding stages. TRINICLE - Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Steadied when improving onto heels near the 650m. CASH COUNT Trainer s representative advised that they would instruct for the gelding to be ridden in a mid-field to rearward position and this information was disseminated. Baulked during its preliminary dislodging its rider who took an apparent harmless fall, and after galloping a short distance was recaptured and returned to the barriers. After undergoing a veterinary examination was passed fit to start. Fractious in its barrier prior to the start.

2 NORTHAM : /2 Race 2 Continued Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Over-raced through the middle stages having to be steadied near the 700m. Due to the pre-race and barrier manners Trainer Ms D Murphy was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding and should it re-offend in a similar manner in future, further action may be taken. Trainer was further advised that she must continue to engage the services of a Senior Rider for the gelding s immediate racing future. RACE 3: XXXX GOLD NORTHAM CUP OCT 23 MAIDEN M GOD I LOVE YOU Bumped at the start. MAGNASCOPE Lay outwards passing the 1000m despite the efforts of its rider and then commenced to race keenly through the middle stages. Trainer s representative was advised his stable must continue to engage the services of a Senior Rider for the gelding s immediate racing future. MALILANGWE - Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Raced wide from the 600m.Impeded and taken inwards approaching the 150m. NICE GO - Slow into stride losing one length. Lay inwards throughout running. Trainer Mr B Wilkinson was advised that due to the filly s racing manner he must continue to engage the services of a Senior Rider for its immediate racing future. Trainer advised that he would experiment with a gear change on the filly in an attempt to rectify its racing manner. IVORY JEWEL - Slow into stride losing one length. CYCLONE MAN - Slow into stride losing one length and raced un-competitively throughout. Rider reported that the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action during running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed it to have returned shin sore. Trainer Mr V Brockman was advised that the gelding would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. Trainer advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell. MADRID CENTRO Rider reported that he did not anticipate leading the event by such a large margin, however was mindful that the gelding had over-raced at its last start and that he was instructed to allow it to stride freely as it over-races when attempting to be settled by its rider during running. Trainer Mr L Smith agreed with the comments of the rider and was of the opinion the gelding may settle during running with more race experience. RACE 4: YOUNG LIONEL MAIDEN M MASARARI Trainer Mr B Rogers advised that he would instruct that the gelding to be ridden in a mid-field to rearward position and this information was disseminated. BUSTER ANDY - Raced wide throughout. DIPLOMAT EXPRESS Raced wide from the 800m. TEMPLAR'S CROSS Raced keenly through the middle stages and was steadied when improving onto heels near the 500m.Taken inwards shortly after straightening to secure clear running. DARK MAHAL Raced keenly through the middle stages and was steadied when improving onto heels approaching the 800m, and was again steadied passing the 550m. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and for a short distance on straightening. SICK'EM DEX Commenced to compound on straightening. Trainer Ms M Logan was advised that due to the uncompetitive performance the gelding would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. ROYAL TIPPLE Taken outwards shortly after straightening to secure a clear run and then had a tendency to lay inwards thereafter. HELLS GATE - Slow into stride losing one length.

3 NORTHAM : /3 RACE 5: SON OF SOMETHING MAIDEN M REUNION HILL Rider reported that the gelding lay outwards throughout running. COOLUP BOY Raced wide throughout. WESTERN DOER Slow into stride losing one length and raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider reported that the gelding lay outwards throughout running. CHEAP EXPRESS Lay inwards in the straight placing its rider at a disadvantage with him having to stop riding to straighten his mount on several occasions. Due to the racing manner of the mare Trainer Mr B Pearce was advised he must continue to engage the services of a Senior Rider for its immediate racing future. Trainer advised that the mare would now be sent of a spell. LADY EMILY - Over-raced through the early and middle stages. HUSSON SHARAZ Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 200m. SPIRITED TWO Momentarily impeded near the 50m. ONE WORD REVIEW Lay inwards in the straight and was impeded for a short distance and taken outwards approaching the 100m. Gear changes: ANYWHERE TO GO lugging bit on RACE 6: REBELSON HANDICAP M CRAFTY RED (NZ) Rider reported the gelding became under pressure from the 800m and as a result failed to quicken and run on strongly in the straight. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr R Price s representative advised his stable would monitor the gelding s recovery and advise Stewards of any abnormalities. CALL NINE ONE ONE (NZ) Trainer Mr C Gangemi advised he would instruct the gelding to be ridden on pace and this information was disseminated. MUDLODE Race wide from the 1100m. MYSTIC DUST Kicked out in its stall area prior to entering the mounting enclosure and after undergoing a pre-race Veterinary examination was found to have a minor abrasion to its off hind and passed fit to start. General: Apprentice T Stone (DO YOU DO) was cautioned under ARR 137A (5)(a)(ii) for using her whip on one additional occasion than permitted prior to 100m. In relation to penalty, Stewards exercised their discretion based on advice from Racing Australia which is currently reviewing the whip rules and at this time have instructed that consideration be given to distance totality and the context of the race when determining penalties for whip related offences. In this particular matter Apprentice T Stone used the whip on one additional occasion prior to the 100m and as she used it on less than 6 occasions over the final 100m, a caution was issued. RACE 7: ANGEL OF MERCY HANDICAP M KAAPANDER Rider reported that he anticipated taking up a position on pace, however the gelding failed to muster any early speed despite his efforts and then settled further back in the field. CARD KNIGHT Rider reported the gelding made respiratory noises during running. Trainer Mr E Wake advised he would reinstate the tongue tie on the gelding for its immediate racing future. REVEREND JOHN Raced wide from the 700m. BOZCCADA Steadied when improving onto heels near the 700m and lost ground. TWO EYE SEE Over raced through the early and middle stages. OUR MATE CHARLIE Race wide throughout. Gear changes: CARD KNIGHT tongue tie off

4 NORTHAM : /4 RACE 8: RINGMEISTER HANDICAP M KOSTYAZILCH Lay outwards in the straight. LONE SAILOR Raced wide from the 600m. STORMY GRACE Trainers representative advised that they would instruct for the mare to be ridden in a mid-field to a rearward position and this information was disseminated. Slow into stride losing one length. Lay inwards in the straight and was impeded for clear running from on straightening until passing the 300m. Rider dropped his whip passing the 200m. MAKATIES KEEPER (NZ) Impeded for a short distance and taken inwards near the 150m and was again impeded and steadied over the final 75m. PENTHOUSE PET Commenced awkwardly. General: Apprentice S Colgate (KOSTYAZILCH) was cautioned under ARR 137A (5)(a)(ii) for using her whip on one additional occasion than permitted prior to the 100m. RACE 9: MONAGHETTI HANDICAP M An objection lodged by Trainer K Frost Trainer of the third placed OMINOUS WARNING against second placed KRYPTO KID, alleging interference at the 50m was dismissed. In dismissing the objection Stewards acknowledged KRYPTO KID had shifted outwards abruptly which resulted in OMINOUS WARNING having to steady outwards, however after taking into account the interference had occurred at the 50m, the margin between the two runners at this point and the manner in which the two runners were finishing off the race Stewards could not be satisfied had the interference not occurred OMINOUS WARNING would have beaten KRYPTO KID and as such dismissed the objection. HEAVY SET Lay outwards throughout running having to be steadied passing the 600m. QINGDAO Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after becoming fractious on route to the course and was found to have an abrasion to its off hock and passed fit to start. Carried outwards and steadied passing the 50m. FORBIDDEN PLANET Fractious in its barrier prior to the start. Slow into stride losing one length. Raced keenly through the middle stages. OMINOUS WARNING Raced wide throughout. Lay inwards in the straight. Steadied outwards to avoid heels near the 50m. KRYPTO KID Veered outwards abruptly near the 50m when tested with the whip, severely unbalancing its rider who nearly became dislodged having to be restrained. Due to the racing manner of the gelding, Trainer Mr M Knox was advised that it must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again and that he must continue to engage the services of a senior rider for its immediate racing future. GENERAL Routine specimens were taken from all winners and; Race 5. 3 rd placed ONE WORD REVIEW. The following horses were selected for pre-race blood samples to be taken: Race 4. Trainer V Brockman fined $25 under AR175(k) - for negligence in failing to provide the registered colours for IVORY JEWEL, resulting in the Club s colours being used. S Parnham fined $50 under AR175(p) for failing to sign in on arrival on course. Race 1. Jockey P Harvey (indisposed) replaced by Jockey T Turner on THE PAUA FRITTER. Race 2.
