4 Game Cancellation The Games Committee will be the only authority to determine whether games during the Big South Conference Championship may be cancelled. Awards Presentation The official presentation of all-conference awards will be made immediately preceding the host institution s game on Wednesday, May 21 after both teams have completed their pre-game infield. Head coaches shall be present along with their student-athletes receiving honors (uniform dress is optional). Umpire Crew There will be a three-person crew for all games with the exception of the championship game, which shall have a four-person crew. Equipment The Big South Conference office will arrange for balls to be supplied by Rawlings Sporting Goods for the championship. The host shall arrange for ball shaggers. The host institution shall provide drinking water and Gatorade in both dugouts. 5 Seeding Procedures Seeding of teams for the tournament shall first be determined by the number of conference wins. If teams have the same number of conference wins, the team with the higher conference winning percentage shall receive the higher seed. If ties still remain, then the tiebreaker policy shall be applied do determine seeding. Tie-Breaker Policy The following tiebreaker shall be applied to determine seeding: 1. There will be no player-guest admissions. Directions From Lynchburg, VA: Take US 29 south to Danville. Take the River Park Drive exit after crossing US 58. You will see signs for Dan Daniel Park. At the top of the exit, take a right into the park, and the stadium is ¼ mile on right. From South Boston: Take US 58 west to US 29 South. Take 29 S. to first exit (River Park Dr. exit). Take a right into the park at the top of the exit ramp. Stadium is ¼ mile on right. 7

8 From Greensboro, NC: Take US 29 North to Danville. Once in the Danville Area, take the River Park Dr. exit (Dan Daniel Park). At the top of the exit ramp, take a left and go into Dan Daniel Park. Once in park, stadium is ¼ on right. From Martinsville: Take US 58 East. Take 58/29 Bypass (towards Greensboro/South Boston/Lynchburg) When bypass splits to go to Greensboro, stay on 58 E/29 N Bypass towards Lynchburg. Take the River Park Drive exit (for Dan Daniel Memorial Park) At the top of the exit, take a left. Go across overpass straight into Dan Daniel Park The stadium is ¼ mile on the right Lodging HOST HOTEL ASSIGNMENTS FOR EACH TEAM WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE CONFERENCE OFFICE AT A LATER DATE. TEAMS ARE NOT TO CONTACT THE HOST HOTELS UNTIL THEY RECEIVE THEIR ASSIGNMENT. The Big South Conference has also reserved a block of rooms for parents and friends of the Big South baseball teams at the following properties: - The Innkeeper West - The Innkeeper North These properties are offering parents/fans the Big South Rate of $70.00 per night, which is a very competitive rate for the area. There are a limited amount of rooms, so if any parents or friends are interested in staying in one of these properties, please have them contact Anthony Rizzo at (704) as soon as possible; so he can help book the room using the Big South rate. 9 Home team on field :02 First pitch :00 * Gates will open at 10:00 am or gates will open prior one hour before first pitch. * Non-starters and staff are to be announced only on the first day of the tournament and the first championship game. ** The National Anthem will be played before the first game of each day only. Note: Home teams are the highest seeds from the regular season. The home team shall occupy the third base dugout, take infield first and wear white uniforms if it owns white uniforms. Games will begin 45 minutes after the conclusion for the previous game or the scheduled start time, whichever is later. a. other b. In the event step a does not resolve the tie (i.e., if the two teams split during the regular season), then the records of the tying teams against the number one seed shall be compared. The team with the better record against the number one seed shall gain the higher seed. c. The process in step b shall continue through the last seed, if necessary. d. In the event that the tie cannot be broken, the seeding shall be determined by a coin toss. 2. Multiple-Ties: a. Composite records between the tying teams will be evaluated to determine if one team has won more games against the other tying institutions. b. In the event step a does not resolve the multiple tie or reduce the multiple tie to one tie, then a comparison of records of the tying institutions with the better record against the top seeded team will receive the higher place. c. The process outlined in step b shall continue through the last seed, if necessary, until the seeding is complete. d. In the event this process does not resolve the ties, a coin toss will be the final alternative. e. If the multiple tie is reduced to a tie between two teams, the two-team tiebreaker formula will be utilized. Medical and Training Facilities The primary athletic training room is located in the clubhouse behind the first base dugout. It will be available two hours prior to the athletic event. Modalities available include: hot whirlpool, hot hydrocollator, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, extremity pump and ice. 9

10 There will also be a training table and hydrocollator available in the training room behind third base. We request written authorization from an ATC for treatments of ultrasound and electrical muscle stimulation on athletes unaccompanied by a certified athletic trainer. We request to be notified in advance if a team is practicing/competing without an ATC. DUGOUT SUPPLIES PROVIDED: 10 gallons water 10 gallons Gatorade Cups Injury Ice and Bags Ice towels Bench Towels Biohazard container In first base dugout (in case of emergencies) cramer splint bag, AED, spine board and sports-chair Supplies will not be available or supplied for any off-sight practices A Liberty University Sports Medicine Staff Certified Athletic Trainer will be in attendance for all games A letter will be sent to each team s trainer prior to the conference championship with information including the local hospital and related medical providers. Hospitality A hospitality area for media, coaches, and VIP s will be located behind the third base locker room. This area will be clearly marked. A variety of food will be offered throughout the championship beginning an hour before the scheduled first pitch of each game.
