10 Tryout Format 2018 For a lot of these kids we have been evaluating them since August through our off-season program. Areas that we have looked at and that we will constantly evaluate: 1) How are they in the classroom? Grades, behavior, work ethic, attendance 2) Commitment Are they here all the time and is our baseball program and their development important to them 3) The extra How much time do they spend on development and training when they are not asked to 4) Talent what does their athletic ability bring to the table for us to win ball games 5) Mental Make-up How do they handle adversity and what character values do they bring to our program 6) What kind of teammate are they? Are they selfless? Tryouts- We will evaluate the 60, arm strength, fundamental skills, hitting, pitch ability, baseball instincts, fielding. This will take place in a 3 day span for the new kids coming out and it s been happening for all off-season kids since August

12 Parent Recommendations 1) Let us coach Our goal is development of your son and winning. We will do our best to achieve that goal everyday. You are welcome to every practice and every game. But we will not tolerate you coaching your son from the stands, near the dugout, or off to the side when we are in practice or in a game. 2) Support all our teams and all of our boys 3) Get involved If you are interested in helping in some capacity please contact Mellisa Landrum 4) Do not be a negative influence in the stands. I refer to this as being an ANCHOR.. Voicing negativity aloud will end up dragging others down with you 5) We will not meet on playing time, your opinion on strategy, or line-ups. There will also be no meetings with the Athletic Director on playing time, line-ups or your thoughts on strategy of the game. 6) If you have a concern about classroom issues, health, an emergency arises, or any other issues away from the game of baseball that you feel we need to meet, I would be happy to talk and help out. 7) Select Baseball has it s own place and I understand the value of those programs. But, we are not select baseball. Our boys will not be allowed to participate in select practices or games until our season is over 8) Please understand your sons role in our program. I will work tirelessly to make this a great place to play and develop. But, all kids are different, have different talents, have different work ethic, bring different value to our program. Take the good and the bad, and stay consistent with your son. Be supportive through it all. They love you!
13 Important Information - Kids are not to miss practice. Practice is the most important part of the development of our kids and our program - If one of our baseball players gets hurt, please see our Athletic Trainer first Chad McCune Chad.mccune@Midwayisd.org - If any issues come up as far as discipline, I will contact both parents and player the day of and visit. - Drug Testing Policy 30% of all athletes will be tested each month. Every student athlete has an equal chance of being selected 1 st Positive Result 10% suspension of scheduled events 2 nd Positive Result 40% suspension of scheduled events 3 rd Positive Result Removed from baseball for 1 calendar year - ISS (in school suspension) student/athlete will not be able to play in any games while serving the suspension. They must come to practice - OSS (Out of school suspension) Student/Athlete cannot practice or play in games while serving this suspension. 14 Community Involvement Our two areas that we will concentrate this year will be our youth league and Scott & White Children s Hospital Midway Little League Baseball We will help our youth league with development from our coaching staff, clinic time for the kids, be at the ball park for the young kids to see us and develop one big program. We want our kids coming up to be excited about Midway High School Baseball and want to be a Panther. That is on us. We need to be visible, invested, and make relationships with those kids coming. We have a unbelievable youth league, we have to be involved. Youth League Baseball Clinics were held in the fall every other Sunday for 10 weeks. I met some great kids and great families! Scott & White Children s Hospital Home Run for Health This is an opportunity for us to bring awareness to the kids of need. Our boys are very fortunate. They are healthy, strong, have great parental support. That is not the case for everyone. This is our opportunity to do something for some kids that need a light shined on them. Through the game of baseball we are able to help
