6 1. Represent the Carlinas Umpire Assciatin and yurself at the utmst prfessinal level this year. A. Act accrdingly in the parking lt, entrance t the field, n the field and n the way hme. B. Hld the game t its highest integrity. C. Be impartial and educatinal. D. We get paid t be prfessinal and nt get caught up in the emtins f the players, caches and spectatrs. STAY ABOVE IT AND THEM. E. If yu get flustered it s ver fr yu and yur partner. NO MELT DOWNS. F. Yu are the game manager. G. If yu curse r make a lewd gesture, I wn t be able t help yu. H. We are always being filmed

7 Arbiter/Assignments 2. Clse ut dates n arbiter nw. I plan t start scheduling February 8th. If yu can t umpire until 5:00 me and put it n the blck page f the arbiter. 3. Accept assignments n the arbiter immediately after yu receive them. 3 days given, but accept as sn as yu lk. Dn t keep them pending. After 3 days they are autmatically declined. Expect a phne call. Check the arbiter, yur and my website every day. If yu dn t blck ff a date and I give yu a game n that date and yu dn t accept it, I can t use yu. Stay pen/available with us n Tuesdays and Fridays. I need umpires n thse nights. 4. me cnflicts f interest and put them n arbiter blck page. Yu wrk at the schl, yu have children at a schl, yur wife wrks at a schl. Gd friends with a cach, brther is first base cach.

8 Arbiter/Dues/ 5. Sme f yu dn t have pictures n the arbiter yet. I can t schedule yu any games and yu can t d scrimmages until this is cmpleted February 8 th. 6. Sme f yu haven t paid state dues yet. N games, scrimmage games r rule bks until paid. February 8 th. 7. Yu must have the same address n the arbiter, NCHSAA and testing websites. Yu wn t be able t take the test and yu ll be ineligible t wrk games,

9 Fees/Payment/Reprts 8. Bking fees f $71.00 by February 1 st. Late fee will be $ N games assigned until fees are cllected February 8 th. 9. They will pay yu after the game. 10. Crew Chief arbiter reprts are due by nn the next day. Late reprts will carry a $25.00 fee. If Arbiter is dwn, then it t me at gary_swansn@htmail.cm. After midnight g t Arbiter, then schedule page. Under FILTER there s a date bx drp dwn. Hit SHOW ALL and then hit APPLY and the game and RED R will appear fr the reprt.

10 Game Time/Crew Chief 11. Game time arrivals: Middle Schl and Junir Varsity = 30 minutes befre. Varsity = 1 hur befre. Check in with hme team AD r Head Cach and find ut frm them what time the first pitch will be thrwn. JV umpires dn t leave until yu see the varsity umpires. 12. Crew Chiefs cntact partners 36 hurs befre. If partner desn t respnd 24 hurs befre the game call Gary. Carry yur cell phnes n game days. Have cell phnes turned n 2 hurs befre game time. Call yur partner early if yu are in traffic and have yur pregame at that time. If partner is nt answering 30 minutes befre game time call Frank. 13. Dn t change field psitin assignments unless Gary agrees t it.

11 14. Warning, write it dwn. Warnings/DQ Restrict. Disqualify/Eject. Call Gary immediately after the game fr restrictins/dq s and ejectins. D nt tell anyne if there s an ejectin r disqualificatin. Tell them yu ll turn the frm int me and I ll let the administratrs knw the next mrning by 7:00 am. D sample reprt n CUA website and send. Hear back frm Gary and send fficial reprt int NCHSAA fr public schl games. The fficial frm is n NCHSAA.rg. Private schl and middle schl games, the CUA website frm will be the fficial frm that I ll send t Principals and AD s. Filling ut frms, put nly the facts NO OPINIONS. 15. Assistant Caches dn t get same privilege as head caches. They can t argue r leave the dugut r their psitins n the field. Try t have head cach help yu. Write it dwn. If yu restrict assistant cach the HEAD COACH IS ALSO RESTRICTED. If head cach desn t help yu restrict bth f them. 16. Players r caches ejected r DQed? 99% f the time I want a warning. A phne call t Gary is mandatry after every Restrictin, DQ r Ejectin. Put all warnings in pstgame arbiter reprt.

12 Blcks/Travel 17. Nn blcked ff days mean yu re available t wrk that day and will be ready when getting a phne call that day. On yur ff days have yur clthes and equipment in the car. If yu accept ne f these games late in the day gd things are cming fr yu. 18. Travel distance, I ll d the best that I can. Hw but thse gas prices!!! I d like t keep everyne less than an hur frm hme. Can t always be dne. Schl prximities are nt their fault, they deserve the best we can send. The better the umpire the mre he may have t travel. Travel a lnger distance? Hpefully we can get yu a dubleheader at that lcatin

T many umpires were nt able t d the playffs last year because f lw test scres. Test dates are March All umpires that wish t be eligible fr varsity games and the playffs must nw scre a 75. If a first r secnd year umpire scres less than a 75 but scres abve a 65 he will be eligible t d junir varsity games this year 22. Where d we stand in between innings? Pitching changes?

14 Medical Frm/Games 23. Emergency Medical Frms with yu at every game. Lcated n the CUA website. Have them with yu in yur car at games. Let yur partner knw where they can be fund. 24. I ll assign umpires t the level f game that the umpires are capable f. 25. Arbiter Inf. We ll have a class rm sessin at a Sunday clinic. 26. Cllege Scrimmages. 27. Everyne will d Middle Schl games this year. Best effrt, yu never knw wh s watching. 28. Share all f yur Assciatins with ur Assciatin n Arbiter. This helps yu and the supervisr. On Arbiter g t PROFILE. After that cmes up g t SHARING and then line up the assciatins and check the bxes. By February 8 th.

15 Playffs 29. We have the state champinship 4 man crew this year. Games will be at NC State r Zebuln/5 Cunties/Mudcat Stadium. Our assciatin will pay fr the crews htel rms. When Mark watches a crew he wants t see psitive attitudes, hustle, game management, fitness and perceptin. Once the playffs start (this includes cnference turnaments) nly mustaches n lwer than the crk f the muth. N gatees. Offenders will be suspended and ur assciatin will get fined. Fr all playff games. 3 persn Prtest Cmmittees as ppsed t 5. These are mandatry. N parents. Only caches administratrs r nn wrking umpires can serve. This is set up by the hme administratin but yu must check n this at the hme plate meeting.

16 Lightning/Clinics 30. Lightning Plicy. The Federatin rule is used. Crew Chief is in charge f this nce the line ups are exchanged. Principals r Game Management trump the crew chief nt head caches. New plicy cming. 31. Clinics at the Queens Sprts Cmplex (nt n campus). On Sundays Tyvla Rad Charltte, NC First year t ur assciatin umpires at 1:00. Veterans may als attend these meetings. Everyne else at 2:00.
