The Bulldogs defeated Hartford, 12-9, 13-8, and 7-1 for their first sweep since sweeping Liberty April 30-May1, Mattison Ties School Record for Triples: Kevin Mattison tied a school record hitting two triples in the second game of teh Hartford series. The only other Asheville player to hit two triples in a game was Brian Lancaster against Limestone during the 1989 season. Mattison leads the Big South Conference with four triples so far this season. Martinez Single Lifts Dogs Over Furman: Johnny Martinez had a two-rbi pinch hit single in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Asheville over Furman 6-5. Ben Buchanan picked up his first win of the season in relief. Kyle Smith went 2-for-4 on the day with a two-rbi single in the first inning. Steve Burnich extended his hitting streak to 12 straight games with a RBI single in the fourth inning. Bulldogs Blast A&T: UNC Asheville got a complete game from Graham Baughn and Elliott Arrington hit two home runs and drove in five runs as the Bulldogs blasted North Carolina A&T in their home opener on March 14. Arrington paced the 16-hit UNC Asheville attack by going 3-for-3. Everyone in the Bulldogs line-up had at least one hit and Asheville scored at least one run in every inning but the second and fourth innings. Power Surge: UNC Asheville hit 20 home runs in 57 games last season. This season the Bulldogs are averaging a home run per game with 22 dingers in the first 22 games. Kevin Mattison leads the way with five home runs this season. Elliott Arrington hit a pair of home runs last week to give him four for the season. Kyle Smith has three home runs and Edmund Locklear, Charles Pippitt, Brett Robinson, and John Whited each have two. The Dogs are currently in second place in the Big South in home runs trailing only Winthrop who has hit 23 homers this season. It s a Streak: The Dogs have won five-straight games for the first time since Mar , 2003 when Asheville defeated Penn, Western Carolina, and three games against High Point. On Average: The Bulldogs are third in the Big South with a.310 team batting average. The Dogs have seven hitters who are over.300, led by Nathan Durham who is hitting.400, Kevin Mattison at.397, and Elliott Arrington at.356.

W5 Score by Innings Ex Total UNCA Opp Mighty Might: Tony Campana hit his first collegaite home run on Saturday against Hartford. It broke a 9-9 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning. Taking it Solo: 16 of the Bulldogs 22 home runs this season have been solo shots with six of them leading off the inning. The Dogs have had a flair for the dramatic as they have hit seven home runs in the seventh inning or later and six home runs have either tied the game or givin the Bulldogs the lead. Burnich hit streak reaches 12: Junior Steve Burnich hit in a season-high 12 straight games from Feb. 28 to March 18. He went 15-for-42 (.357) with a home run, two doubles, and ten runs scored. Campana Still Going Strong: Sophomore Tony Campana saw his 15 game-hitting streak snapped on Mar. 3, against Michigan. However he has hit safely in 15 of the 18 games he has played this season. Dating back to last season, Campana has a hit in 43 of his last 47 games. Long Road: The Bulldogs began the season with their first 17 games away from Asheville. The Bulldogs went 5-12 on the trip that took the team to Florida, Georgia, and Texas. In a Pinch: The Bulldogs have hit two pinch hit home runs this season, both of them, Edmund Locklear Feb. 15 and Charles Pippitt Feb. 26, tied the game. What a Start: Edmund Locklear made his first collegiate at bat a memberable one.
