During that 7,920-game streak, the Cubs were held to one hit 22 times conversely, the team collected 10 or more hits 3,032 times including 37 games with at least 20 hits thanks to Ed Hartig for his assistance. Yesterday s no-hitter was the first at Wrigley Field since the Cubs Milt Pappas turned the trick vs. San Diego, September 2, 1972 it was the first by a Cubs opponent at the Friendly Confines since August 19, 1965 (gm. 1) vs. the Reds Jim Maloney. WHIP? IT GOOD: Cubs starter Jason Hammel is sixth in the N.L. with a 0.98 WHIP this season, trailing only Zack Greinke (0.82), Max Scherzer (0.83), Jacob degrom (0.90), Johnny Cueto (0.93) and Clayton Kershaw (0.94) Jake Arrieta is seventh in the N.L. with a 1.00 WHIP. The Cubs haven t had a qualifying pitcher finish a season with a sub WHIP since Dennis Eckersley (0.97) in 1985 the Cubs last had two qualifying pitchers finish with a sub-1.00 WHIP in the same season in 1907 when Mordecai Three Finger Brown and Jack Pfiester turned the trick.
