Rehabbing Royals RHP Kris Medlen had kept the Cardinals in check through his seven innings, before Springfield broke out against the bullpen. Trailing, 3-0, entering the bottom of the eighth, an RBI double from 3B Patrick Wisdom and an RBI single by 2B Bruce Caldwell brought the Cards within one, before Diaz s slam later in the frame propelled Springfield in front. RHP Ronnie Shaban closed it with a scoreless ninth for the save. Springfield slams SS Aledmys Diaz s grand slam on Wednesday was his first of the season and the third of the year for the team. C Michael Ohlman crushed the first grand slam early on, driving it out on 4/12 against San Antonio. 3B Patrick Wisdom then provided the second slam of the season with a dramatic shot in the top of the 10 th inning on 6/15 in Tulsa, lifting Springfield to the eventual 8-4 victory. Diaz s blast on Wednesday is not only his first grand slam of the season, but also the first in his pro career. Diaz delivering The grand slam on Wednesday continued a great first half of July for SS Aledmys Diaz, who has hit safely in eight of his last nine games since 7/4. During that stretch, he is hitting.394 (13x33) with two homers, five doubles and nine RBIs. Tilson tearing it up With another knock on Wednesday, CF Charlie Tilson has hit safely 14 of his last 16 games since 6/27, going 24x65 (.369) during that stretch. The Wilmette, Illinois native ranks 2 nd in the league (1 st among active players) with 99 hits on the year, while also ranking 2 nd with a career-high 30 steals, just two behind Naturals OF Terrance Gore (33). Tilson also ranks among league leaders in average (4 th,.301), runs (t-4 th, 53) and at-bats (1 st, 329). Home cooking 3B Patrick Wisdom and 2B Bruce Caldwell, who have been hitting in the second and third spots in the order of late, have enjoyed particular success at Hammons Field. In 35 games at home, Wisdom is hitting.308 with six homers and 23 RBIs, while Caldwell has compiled a.324 average with four blasts and 17 RBIs through 19 games at Hammons.
