TOUGH WEEKEND IN CLEVELAND--About the only good news that came out of a 4-game stop in Cleveland was Kansas City s snapping of the Tribe s A.L. record 22-game winning streak on Friday night... the Royals then dropped the next two contests to lose three of four in the set, the finale a 3-2 defeat on Sunday...Danny Duffy returned to the hill for the first time in over three weeks and was outstanding, making only one mistake, which was hit a long way by Edwin Encarnacion...the 2-run blast was the only hit allowed by Duffy after he retired the 10 of the first 12 he faced, the other two reaching on errors...he fanned eight and walked none while on a pitch limit that was reached with 62 through 5.0 innings...the offense was stifled by perennial Cy Young candidate Corey Kluber, who ran his record to 17-4 with 7.0 shutout innings...the Royals plated two in the eighth and had two aboard in the ninth, but wound up falling for the 15th time in the last 24 games and enter play tonight 4 1/2 games out in the Wild Card race with only 13 games to play. GORDON ADDS TO PLUNKING RECORD--Left fielder Alex Gordon was hit by a pitch in Sunday s loss at Cleveland, the 14th bruise incurred this year which ties him with Todd Frazier for fourth in the American League this season...it was also the 89th plunking of his career, extending his club record by 11 over the previous mark of 78 set by Mike Macfarlane during his two stints with the club ( and )...the 89 hit by pitches are tied with Adam Jones and the retired Kevin Youklis for second most among American Leaguers since 2007 when Gordon broke into the Majors...Shin-soo Choo leads since 07 with 94 HBP s.
