ACE 30 REMEMBERING YO--The morning of January 22, 2017 will always be remembered as one of the most tragic days in franchise history when word was received that pitcher Yordano Ventura had his life cut short due to a car accident in his native Dominican Republic...signed as a 17-year old in 2008, the fireballing righthander compiled a during his abbreviated Major League career...among many highlights, Ace will be most remembered for blanking the San Francisco Giants over 7.0 innings in Game #6 of the 2014 World Series to force a seventh and deciding game, while pitching with a heavy heart himself due to the untimely passing of his friend Oscar Tavares...to honor the late Ventura, all uniforms in 2017 will be adorned with the ACE 30 patch. ONE INNING SPOILS 17 DEBUT--Ian was saddled with the defeat in his first start of 2017 last Wednesday at Target Field, allowing three runs in the second inning of a 9-1 setback...the damage came via three walks and two hits in the 37-pitch second... after back-to-back free passes opened the frame, the righty surrendered consecutive RBI singles, before the Twins added a third run on a fielder s choice...kennedy finished the outing by setting down 11 of the final 14 hitters he faced...his five walks matched his highest total as a Royal, also doing it May 30 of last year in a 6-2 win over Tampa Bay...it also marked the third time in his career that he s dropped his first start, joining 2008 with the Yankees (13-4 to the Rays) and 2014 with San Diego (3-2 to the Dodgers). SUPERB SPRING--Kennedy went 2-1 with a 1.40 ERA (3 ER in 19.1 IP) in five starts this spring, recording 22 strikeouts in his 19.1 innings he held opponents scoreless through his first 18.1 innings, before yielding three runs in his final inning of the exhibition season, March 31 at Texas he also had a.206 opponents average and 0.98 WHIP during Cactus League work.
