Kelvin Herrera and Wade Davis retired all six hitters they faced to close it out, with Davis earning his 17th save of the year...the Royals plated single tallies in the first and second on RBI hits by Kendrys Morales and Whit Merrifield, then Sal Perez added an insurance run when he laced his ninth homer of the year just inside the foul pole in left to open the ninth inning...merrifield finished the day with three hits, including a game-opening double...the win kept KC three games out in the A.L. Central after opening the 2-8 road trip with a two-game lead in the division. K-KLUB--Yordano Ventura s 10-K performance on Sunday was his fifth career double-digit strikeout game, first since matching his career best when he fanned 11 last October 3 in Minnesota...coupled with Danny Duffy s 10 K s on Saturday, the Ventura-Duffy combo became the first Royals duo to record consecutive double-digit strikeout games since the 2009 season, when Zack Greinke fanned 10 in a 2-0 loss to Texas on July 24, and then Luke Hochevar struck out 13 in a 6-3 win over the Rangers the following day. STREAKY SEASON--The Royals got back on the series victory track yesterday by taking the rubber game in Chicago to snap a two-set drought...it s been streaky to say the least, as KC lost five straight sets from April 25-May 12 and then won six in a row from May 13-June 1...Kansas City is now in series played this year. SUPPORT HAS BEEN SCARCE--The Royals have scored two or fewer runs in six of his last eight starts, a stretch in which he has gone 2-5 his 3.56 run support average this season is the third lowest among AL pitchers (min. 13 starts) and fifth fewest runs plated in the Majors, a stark contrast from his 5.21 run support average in 2015, which ranked as the 10th highest in the AL.
