ROUGH START TO BRONX VISIT--Kansas City kicked off its longest road trip of the season with a 7-2 defeat to the Yankees in front of a full house here on Thursday...Jakob Junis had a high pitch count and a couple of infield errors lead to his demise, as the second-year hurler fell to 5-11 on the year with his eighth straight losing decision spanning nine starts...he was solved for seven runs, but just three were earned, on nine hits with a pair of walks, three strikeouts and a hit by pitch, while needing 100 pitches to navigate just 4.2 innings...the hit batter was Aaron Judge in the first inning and a subsequent MRI revealed he incurred a chip fracture of his right wrist...shortstop Adalberto Mondesi made two-out errors in the first and fourth innings and the Yankees capitalized for the four unearned tallies...the Royals finally got on the board in the sixth when Salvador Perez hit his 16th home run of the year with a man aboard. ROYALS ACQUIRE A PAIR FOR MOOSE--In the early hours of this morning, the Royals completed a trade with Milwaukee, sending third baseman Mike Moustakas to the Brewers in exchange for outfielder Brett Phillips and right-handed pitcher Jorge Lopez...Phillips, a 24-year old left-handed hitter out of Seminole, FL, hit.240 (62-for-258) in 71 games with 12 doubles, seven triples and six home runs for Colorado Springs (AAA), while also having three stints with the Brewers, going 4-for he has 52 career big league games with Milwaukee dating back to last season, hitting.257 (28-for-109) with three doubles, a triple and four home runs...phillips was a sixth-round pick of the Houston Astros in 2012 out of Seminole High School and was ranked as the Astros No. 2 prospect when he was traded by Houston along with three others to Milwaukee for outfielder Carlos Gomez, right-handed pitcher Mike Fiers and other considerations on July 30, Lopez, 25, has spent the majority of the year with Colorado Springs, going 3-3 with a 5.65 ERA in 24 appearances, earning five saves...he s also appeared in 10 games for the Brewers, going 0-1 with a 2.75 ERA, allowing six earned runs in 19.2 innings while fanning Moustakas hit.249 in 98 games for the Royals with 20 home runs and a team-high 62 RBI, re-signing on March 10 after becoming a free agent...a member of the back-to-back American League Championship clubs and the 2015 World Series title club, Moustakas set the club record for homers in a season last year with 38. POST-BREAK SALVY HEATING UP--The lone player who didn t get a break when the All-Stars convened in Washington, Salvador Perez, has picked it up offensively both just prior to and since making his fifth consecutive start for the American League...with a home run here on Thursday night, Perez has batted.296 (16-for-54) while hitting safely in 12 of his last 13 games with three doubles, five homers and 15 RBI, while slugging at a.630 clip...things weren t going quite as well during June, when he batted just.158 (15-for-95) with four RBI, but since the calendar flipped to July he has already collected six more hits and knocked home 13 more runs, going 21-for-76 for a.276 mark with 17 driven in. MACHADO RECALLED--The Royals have recalled right-handed pitcher Andres Machado from Northwest Arkansas (AA) to serve as extra help in the bullpen for today s split twinbill...the 25-year old, who will wear #59, has not allowed a run in his last four relief appearances spanning 4.1 innings. Keller was initially scheduled to go last night, which would have fallen on his 23rd birthday. MIGHTY VS. GROUNDBALL SPECIALIST--Keller s groundball rate of 59.5% ranks second in the Majors (min IP), trailing only Marcus Stroman (63.2%) he s induced 12 groundball double plays this season but none in his last two starts two more than any other American League rookie and tied for seventh in the AL overall.
