2 HEAD COACH DAVE JARVIS (20 Years) (11 Years at Belmont) Arkansas State, 1982 Head coach Dave Jarvis now begins his twelth season at the helm of the Belmont Bruins, and twety-first season as a head coach. This past season, the Bruins posted 25 wins and made the Atlantic Sun Tournament for the third time in school history. Belmont posted wins over Tennessee, as well as 2008 NCAA participants Lipscomb and Western Kentucky. Outfielder/pticher Carlo Testa was named to the A-Sun First Team as a pitcher and outfielder, the first time this has been accomplished in conference history. Catcher Matt Zeblo and outfielder/pitcher Nate Woods were also named to the All-Freshman team. Testa and infielder Derek Wiley, who was named to the A-Sun All- Tournament team, were selected in the 2008 Entry Draft. Testa was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 18th round and Wiley in the 50th round by the Oakland Athletics. Jarvis led the Bruins to their fourth winning season in five seasons in The team finished overall, including a conference record of The Bruins made their second-ever appearance in the A-Sun Tournament and finished one game short of making the NCAA Tournament. Pitcher Charles Lee, as well as infielder Matt Reynolds, outfielders Kane Simmons and Wilson Tucker and designated hitter Derek Wiley were all named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference Team. Former Bruin Ben Petsch and Wilson Tucker were selected in the 2007 Major League Draft. Simmons was named the 2007 Golden Baseball League Spalding Rookie of the Year in September and signed with the Colorado Rockies. Tucker was named the MVP of the Burlington Royals, a single A minor league affiliate of the Kansas City Royals in August, Reynolds was signed by the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League saw two players earn first team All-Conference, and Wiley was named the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year as well as a member of Collegiate Baseball's Freshmen All-American squad. Several other players earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Sun Conference throughout the season as well. Former Belmont pitcher Justin Jordan reached the AAA level after being drafted out of Belmont in Teammate Blake Owen had a successful season in 2006, posting a 7-4 record with a 3.81 earned run average at A-level Delmarva. Cody Blackard played a key role for the Evansville Otters, as they won the Frontier League Championship. In 2005, Jarvis led the Bruins to their third consecutive winning season, and their seventh in his eight years at Belmont. The team finished 28-26, including a road record. The Bruins defeated in-state rival Tennessee for the second straight season, and faced two other opponents from the Southeastern Conference. In 2004, the Bruins posted a record, the most wins in school history. Jarvis was named the A-Sun Coach of the Year in 2003, and his Bruins finished third in the league standings. Despite the disappointing ending, the Bruins continued to rack up honors, with two Bruins earning All-Conference nods and two other Bruins being named Academic All-America. In 2004, Belmont toppled two more ranked teams with, besting #23 Tennessee at Knoxville and #30 Florida Atlantic. The 49-year-old Missouri native has a career record of over 20 seasons. He cut his teeth in coaching with a stellar nine-year stint as head coach at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo. beginning in From , Jarvis' teams were ranked in the top-20 highlighted by a No. 4 ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association poll with a record. He was selected as the Midwest Community College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year three times as baseball coach and once as women's basketball coach. Throughout his tenure as a head coach, a total of 35 players reached the professional ranks including four players who have made it to the major league level: Bart Evans (Kansas City), Jimmy Hurst (Detroit), Chuck Malone (Philadelphia), and Alan Mahaffey (Chicago NL). Jarvis took an opportunity to join Murray State's coaching staff at the NCAA-I level in the fall of 1993 where he was hired by current Belmont Athletic Director, Mike Strickland. As an assistant, he was primarily responsible for the instruction of hitters and catchers as well as teaching base running skills. Jarvis also used his extensive junior college network to create a recruiting pipeline for the Thoroughbreds. As a player, Jarvis capped off his senior campaign at Arkansas State earning a bachelor's degree in education as the team's starting catcher and team captain. He received his Master's degree in education at Arkansas State in A dedicated family man, Jarvis has three sons, Jordan, 15, Logan, 11, and Jackson, 8. The family resides in Franklin, Tennessee. 4 ASSISTANT COACH MATT BARNETT Eighth Season at Belmont 11 Tennessee-Martin, 1997 Matt Barnett is entering his eighth season with the Belmont baseball program. Barnett serves as the team's pitching coach, recruiting coordinator and camp director. In 2008, pitcher/outfielder Carlo Testa was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference First Team at both positions and was selected in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Kansas City Royals. Pitcher/outfielder Nate Woods was also named to the A-Sun All-Freshman Team last season. In 2007, pitcher Charles Lee was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference first team under Barnett. In 2005, Barnett saw Blake Owen set a school record with 13 saves while posting an ERA of Owen was drafted in the sixth round of the Major League Draft, and joins teammates Justin Jordan and Cody Blackard as professional players. Five pitchers posted winning records in 2005, and Bruin pitchers struck out 307 batters while walking just 129. The Bruin pitching staff was one of the best in the conference in 2004 and it started with the style that Barnett brought to Belmont. The Bruins were at the top of the league in hits allowed, runs allowed and ERA. Also under Barnett's direction, Will Tucker broke the single season mark for saves with 12, Shane Haas tied the school record for wins with nine, and a handful of pitchers earning Atlantic Sun Pitchers of the Week honors. Barnett emphasizes the ability to keep pitch count down by eliminating the batter in three pitches or less. Prior to joining the Belmont staff, he was the pitching coach at Tennessee Tech University, the 2001 Ohio Valley Conference champion. That season, Barnett helped to orchestrate the Golden Eagles upset of top-seed Wake Forest in regional play. Barnett first started his collegiate coaching career as a pitching coach at Morehead State. He also served as an assistant coach on the 2000 Coastal Plain League Champions in Petersburg, Va., a summer wooden bat league for college players. Barnett has staffed camps across the southeast including the University of Tennessee's summer camp while assisting with Belmont's Fall Instructional League for area high school players. As a player, he pitched for both Northeast Mississippi Junior College and Shelby State Community College. Barnett finished his collegiate pitching career in at Tennessee- Martin obtaining his degree in Matt and his wife, Natalie, reside in Lavergne, Tenn. with their son, Easton Belmont Baseball - page 42

5 ASSISTANT COACH SCOTT HALL 36 Third Season at Belmont Maryville College, 1998 After serving the past two seasons as the volunteer assistant for Belmont, Scott Hall is beginning his first year as a full-time assistant coach. In Hall's first two years at Belmont, the Bruins experienced a school record in wins (34) in 2007 and their highest finish in the Atlantic Sun Conference (2nd) in that same year. Hall's duties from included but were not limited to outfield coach, first-base coach and coordinator of scouting reports. He also assisted with hitting instruction and directing of camps at Belmont. Under Hall's direction, the 2007 Bruins outfield led the Atlantic Sun Conference in fielding percentage and committing only one error in the regular season. Three members of the 2007 outfield were drafted in the Major League Draft and five hitters have also gone on to play professional baseball. In 2007, Wilson Tucker set a school record in hits (280), doubles (62), and RBI's (173). This past season, current seniorderek Wiley set a school record with 41 career home runs in only three years. Before coming to Belmont in the summer of 2006, Hall was the head baseball coach at Central High School in Shelbyville, Tenn. During his seven year stint at Shelbyville, his teams won the District 8AAA championship two times and set a school record in wins four times. Hall was named District 8AAA coach of the year in 2006, and saw sixteen players go onto top play college baseball including six at the Division I level. Under Hall's direction, funds to erect $350,000 worth of new facilities including an indoor hitting facility and clubhouse were raised. In 2005 Hall served as the head coach for Region III and IV at the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Showcase. Hall has also staffed numerous camps across the country including the University of Tennessee, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Illinois. Hall, a 1998 graduate of Maryville College, was a four year starter and earned All-South Honors in Scott and his wife Jennifer reside in Murfreesboro, Tenn. with their son Preston Belmont Baseball - page 43

SUPPORT STAFF Josh Horn 39 Volunteer Assistant Coach First Season at Belmont Middle Tennessee State, 2006 Josh Horn is starting his first season at Belmont as the volunteer assistant coach.

He has helped lead the team to both the 2007 and 2008 Frontier League Championship. Horn has also been named to the all-star team both years for the Thunderbolts, and chosen as MVP in 2007.

Prior to coaching Riverdale, he coached the 15-year-old Babe Ruth state champions from Shelbyville, TN in 2005.

He was the starting second baseman for Columbia State his freshmen and sophomore years of college then transferred to MTSU for his junior year and played as its starting third baseman his senior year.

At Shelbyville Central, he received awards such as being named to the All-District team and named the Defensive Player of the Year.

6 SUPPORT STAFF Josh Horn 39 Volunteer Assistant Coach First Season at Belmont Middle Tennessee State, 2006 Josh Horn is starting his first season at Belmont as the volunteer assistant coach. Horn currently plays professional baseball with the Windy City Thunderbolts as the starting third baseman for the past two seasons. He has helped lead the team to both the 2007 and 2008 Frontier League Championship. Horn has also been named to the all-star team both years for the Thunderbolts, and chosen as MVP in Previously, Horn served as the freshmen head coach for Riverdale High School during their 2006 season. Prior to coaching Riverdale, he coached the 15-year-old Babe Ruth state champions from Shelbyville, TN in Horn played college baseball at Columbia State Community College and Middle Tennessee State University. He was the starting second baseman for Columbia State his freshmen and sophomore years of college then transferred to MTSU for his junior year and played as its starting third baseman his senior year. Before college, Horn played four years of baseball at Shelbyville Central High School for Belmont's current assistant coach Scott Hall. At Shelbyville Central, he received awards such as being named to the All-District team and named the Defensive Player of the Year. Jonathan DeMarie, MS, ATC Athletic Trainer Katie Sorelle Team Manager Jonathan DeMarie enters his second season as the assistant athletic trainer for baseball at Belmont. In August of 2007, Jonathan earned his master's degree at Murray State University in exercise and leisure studies with an emphasis on sports psychology. Jonathan has worked as an athletic trainer with Murray State s volleyball and baseball teams. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 2005 from Eastern Illinois, where he earned the Dr. and Mrs. Richard Larson Athletic Training Scholarship Award. Jonathan is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). Last summer, he worked with the league champion Fulton (Ky.) Railroaders in the Kentucky/Illinois/Tennessee (KIT) collegiate baseball league. He was also asked to represent the league as the athletic trainer in the first ever KIT-CICL (Central Illinois Collegiate League) All-Star Game. Katie is a sophomore at Belmont and enters her first season as the baseball team manager. She is majoring in Exercise Science. A native of Bowie, Md., Katie attended Eastern Universtiy for one year before transferring to Belmont. She also served as the manager for the baseball and wrestling teams in high school. After college, Katie plans to pursue a career as an exercise psysiologist or sports nutritionist. Marcel Pourtout Media Relations Contact Marcel is in his second season with Belmont Athletics as the sports information director for the baseball team. The Brooklyn, New York native graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2003 with a degree in English. He is currently working towards his master s degree in Sport Administration at Belmont and will graduate in May Prior to Belmont, Marcel worked in the College of Charleston Athletic Department as an intern in the media relations department from He also worked on the gameday staff for athletics at Georgia Tech from Marcel also serves as the SID for men s soccer and women s and men s cross country, and assists with the men s and women s basketball media relations duties at Belmont Belmont Baseball - page 44
