Jarrod Dyson continued his season-ending hot stretch at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double and his 30th stolen base of the year...the loss was KC s third in a row after winning four straight. THAT S A WRAP--While a third straight postseason couldn t be had in 2016, the Royals can still post a winning record if they snap a three-game slide here this afternoon...it would give Kansas City a fourth straight campaign with a winning record, something that hasn t been done here since a six-year stretch from , when KC combined those years for a.573 winning pct. ( )...included in that six-year span were the first postseason experiences for the franchise, playing in the ALCS in 1976, 77, 78 and 80, winning the American League crown in the final year of the streak...kansas City enters today record for the last four seasons for a.543 winning pct., which is currently tied with Cleveland for the best mark among all American League teams since the start of 2013, when KC finished at the Royals then followed by consecutive American League title years with an mark in 2014 and a loss in the Fall Classic to the Giants, and then last year s historical ledger culminating in the World Series crown. ESKY TO PLAY EM ALL, AGAIN--For the second time in three season, shortstop Alcides Escobar will play in all 162 regular season games, also doing so in he will likely be joined by Baltimore s Jonathan Schoop and Houston s George Springer, who enter today with 161 games contested this year, but Schoop has a shot at playing 163 should the O s end up tied for a potential Wild Card berth...escobar has the longest active streak of games played in the Majors with today slated to be his 171st start in succession. THE LAND OF HOZ--Eric Hosmer drove home Kansas City s first run on Friday night, upping his career best RBI total to 104, the 19th best RBI season in team history...this is the first time the Royals have had a first baseman drive at least 100 runs in a season since Mike Sweeney knocked home 103 of his 144 in 2000 while playing first base...the only other full-time first sacker with at least 100-RBI in a season for the Royals was John Mayberry, who did it on three occasions...with his career best 25 homers, Hosmer is only the third lefthanded hitting Royal to hit that many, joining George Brett (1983 & 85) and John Mayberry ( , 75) OVER 2.5 MILLION SERVED--The Royals blew by the 2.5 million attendance mark with yesterday s crowd for just the second time in franchise history, coming on the heels of the first time when the club netted 2,708,549 fans during what would up a World Series winning campaign...coupled with last season, Kansas City has drawn 5,325,786 fans into Kauffman Stadium with today remaining in 2016, for a per game average of 32,520...prior to last year, the Royals had not eclipsed the two million total in home attendance since 1991 when the club drew 2,161,537...prior to last season, the one-year attendance record was 2,477,700 established in TODAY S STARTING PITCHERS: RHP Josh Tomlin (12-9, 4.48) vs. RHP Ian Kennedy (11-10, 3.69) Career Career Josh Tomlin vs. Royals Major League Record 12-9 (4.48 ERA) Ian Kennedy vs. Indians Major League Record (3.69 ERA) IAN KENNEDY toes the rubber for today s season finale, making his career-high tying 33rd start of the year, 237th career, 239th overall appearance...he faces Cleveland for the sixth time this season, eighth all-time...the 31-year-old right-hander is completing the first year of a five-year deal he signed with the Royals on January 29. THE ELUSIVE 12TH WIN--Ian makes his fourth, and final, attempt at winning his 12th game of hte year, as he was not involved in the decision his last time out, a 4-3, 11-inning KC win over the Twins...he worked 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and five K s...he s finished 6.0 innings in just four of his last seven starts, after doing so in 16 of his first 25, posting 12 quality starts in that span...ian allowed a solo homer to Eduardo Escobar in the fourth, the 32nd he s given up to establish a career high...it also snapped a streak of 22.0 consecutive innings without allowing a homer, dating back to the last time he faced the Twins on September 5...he ll be looking to snap a threestart winless streak after claiming victories in five of his six starts between August 15 and September 11...a win today would also tie him with Danny Duffy for the team lead and give him 12 victories or more for the fourth time in the last six seasons. THE GAME OF RISP--Kennedy ranks fifth in the American League, holding the opposition to a.195 average (23-for-118) with runners in scoring position this season (minimum 100 batters faced)...that includes a.143 average (7-for-49) in scoring situations since August 1...he s also second in the Majors, allowing just a.229 slugging percentage (four doubles) with RISP, trailing only Miami s Kyle Barraclough (.186) among qualifying hurlers. HIGHER RATES--Ian enters his final start with the fourth-highest strikeout rate in franchise history (8.66), while his 181 K s for the season are tied for 17th on the club s single-season list...he has recorded at least one strikeout in all 238 career outings, the second-longest active streak to begin a career, trailing only David Price (252). AWESOME IN THE AFTERNOON--Kennedy makes his ninth daytime start of the year, entering at 5-1 with a 2.91 ERA (15 ER in 46.1 IP), while holding opponents to a.202 average during afternoon hours...among A.L. hurlers that have pitched at least 40.0 innings during the day, his opponents average ranks fifth, while his ERA is sixth.
