2 Volunteers for the MS Bike Tour were wonderful--probably one of the biggest reasons I and others will come back again next year. -- MS Bike Tour cyclist The success of the Bike MS: The Citrus Tour 2010 wouldn t be possible without the support of an energetic and hard-working volunteer crew. Volunteers help with crucial behind-the-scenes activities at the start and finish lines, provide support & encouragement on the route, at rest stops along the way, and offer up full volume vocal support to our riders. Depending on your volunteer role and your availability, you can work a four-hour shift or the entire weekend. As a volunteer you will receive the following: Volunteer t-shirt Partake in the event festivities The joy of volunteering to free the world of MS Other volunteer incentives - This year we are recognizing those volunteers that go the extra mile. If you sign up to volunteer both days, you will receive a limited edition SUPER VOLUNTEER t-shirt that shows that you are an outstanding volunteer. As well as a ticket to the celebration dinner! If you volunteer either day and raise more than $100, you will also receive a limited edition SUPER VOLUNTEER t-shirt that shows that you are not only a wonderful volunteer but a dedicated fundraiser. 3 Event Volunteer Opportunities: Rider and Site Support port Set Up/Decorating/Clean Up Help set up the site to receive cyclists. Duties include setting up tables, decorating the tents, keeping the site well-stocked and uncluttered for the riders as they come in off the route by replenishing beverages and food and keeping public areas clear of trash. At the end of the festivities, help break down signage, tables and chairs, properly dispose of garbage and load the trucks when the site is closed. Registration- Welcome and register riders as they arrive. Answer any questions they may have regarding the day s activities. Volunteer Check-in -Support volunteers throughout the Tour by checking them in, handing out T-shirts and meal wristbands, assisting them in finding their assigned area, and thanking each and every volunteer for coming out Luggage Handlers- Volunteers to join a hard-working crew responsible for loading precious cargo load, storing it, and transporting it for overnight participants. Volunteers should be able to bend and lift 25+ lbs. Parking Attendant A ttendant- Lots of bikes coming in and lots of cars going out! Help to keep traffic flow orderly and safe in conjunction with the local authorities efforts. VIB/Team Village- Very Important Bananas and Bike MS teams require very special care. Volunteers will assist top fundraisers and team captains in the team village, helping them make the most out of their Bike MS experience. You will help with set up, decorating, and restocking of supplies. In addition, greet participants as they arrive and answer any questions they may have. Make them feel special!

4 Overnight Celebration- The overnight is always a special time to remind cyclists why their participation in the Bike MS ride is important. It s also a great opportunity to recognize long term riders, volunteers and sponsors. Your help is needed to sell wristbands, set up team tables, greet cyclists and their families, etc. Spirit Team Volunteers -The cheering crowds can help those last few feet be the best part of the ride for the cyclists on the Bike MS ride. Friends, family, cheerleaders and volunteers line the finish chute to cheer, shake noise-makers, blow air horns, and hoot-n-holler for riders as they cross the finish line. Route & Rider Support Teams Athletic Trainers & Physical Therapists -Health professional crew members are asked to assist with morning stretches, as well as support the cyclists throughout the ride. Crew members may be stationed at rest stops along the route, at the overnight and the finish line. Basic first aid knowledge or greater; athletic training experience. Medical Volunteers -Trained medical professionals are needed at the start, finish, overnight, on the route and at rest stops to monitor injuries and wellbeing of the riders. *Must have proof of a valid Medical License Motorcycle Safety Patrol Motorcyclists are often the first to come across a cyclist in need of aid. Must have your own motorcycle and provide proof of a valid driver s license and motorcycle insurance. Rest Stop Teams -Assist with set up and break down of tables, signs, banners, food, drinks, and trash bags; welcome and cheer riders and distribute food and beverages. Ride Marshals -Already riding in the Bike MS ride, but interested in going the extra mile? Ride marshals are cyclists who support and encourage safe riding practices along the route. Support and Gear Volunteers (SAGs) -Drive support vehicles along the Bike MS route, communicate needs on a centralized communication system, and

5 transport tired riders and/or bikes if needed. Must have valid Florida driver s license, proof of insurance, and be willing to undergo a background check. Supply and Refrigerated Truck Drivers -The lifelines of the Bike MS ride, a driver and assistant are assigned to each supply truck or cargo van to transport, restock and deliver supplies along the show proof of valid Florida drivers license, CDL License required if driving a semi, and be willing to undergo a background check. Route Communications -Amateur radio operators, posted at check points along the route and rest stops, work with Net Control to provide reliable and consistent communication throughout the tour. Route Sweepers-The communities that we tour are supportive of the ride so we give back by making sure we return their roads to them the way we found them. Route sweeper vehicles follow the back of the pack to pick up route marking signage and make sure the route is clear of any garbage generated by the riders.

6 Pre-event event Volunteer Opportunities: Early Packet pick-ups (two weeks before the event) There will be early packet pick-ups in Orlando and Tampa. Pre-Event Set Up (Thursday and Friday before the ride) Assist with setting up tents, tables, and signage in preparation for the event. Early Packet pick-up and Registration (day before the event) This packet pick-up takes place at Bok Tower Gardens on Friday afternoon. Maitland Office (week of the ride) Supply pick-up, packing boxes, loading trucks Tampa Office (three to four weeks before the ride) Goodie bag stuffing, packet stuffing and etc. Register as a volunteer for the Bike MS: The Citrus Tour 2010 ride today by visiting Any questions?
