3 Bicycle Program: Sharrows Shared Lane Pavement Marking a.k.a Sharrows Shared lane pavement markings (or Sharrows ) are placed to guide bicyclists to the best place to ride on the road, avoid car doors and remind drivers to share the road with cyclists. Unlike bicycle lanes, Sharrows do not designate a particular part of the street for the exclusive use of bicyclists. They are simply a marking to guide bicyclists to the best place to ride and help motorists expect to see and share the lane with bicyclists. 2

31 California Vehicle Code CVC (a) Every person riding a bicycle upon a highway has all the rights and is subject to all the provisions applicable to the driver of a vehicle. Including driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages or drugs. CVC It is unlawful for any person to ride a bicycle upon a highway while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage or any drug, or under the combined influence of an alcoholic beverage and any drug. CVC (a) No person shall operate a bicycle on a roadway unless it is equipped with a functional braking CVC (a) Any person operating a bicycle upon a roadway at a speed less than the normal speed of traffic moving in the same direction at that time shall ride as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway. CVC No person riding upon any motorcycle, motorized bicycle, bicycle, coaster, roller skates, sled, or toy vehicle shall attach the same or himself to any streetcar or vehicle on the roadway. CVC A operator or passenger on a bicycle shall not ride other than upon or astride a permanent and regular seat. If the passenger is four years of age or younger, or weighs 40 pounds or less, the seat shall have adequate provision for retaining the passenger in place and for protecting the passenger from the moving parts of the bicycle. CVC (a) No person shall drive a motor vehicle in a bicycle lane. CVC No person shall leave a bicycle lying on its side on any sidewalk. CVC (a) Anyone under 18 years of age shall wear a properly fitted helmet when operating a bicycle, nonmotorized scooter, skateboard, wear in-line or roller skates, ride upon a bicycle, a non-motorized scooter, or a skateboard as a passenger.

32 Hermosa Beach Municipal Code Wheeled Vehicles or Devices on Strand Walkway. A. Prohibited. It is unlawful for any person to ride or operate any wagon, box on wheels, or any other method of riding or locomotion on wheels, including use of an electric personal assistive mobility device ("EPAMD") (as defined by Vehicle Code Section 313) on any portion of the Strand walkway and the Pier Plaza, except for the following: Roller skates, Skateboards, pedal-powered non-motorized bicycles or tricycles with a width of not more than thirty-six (36) inches, Conveyances for people with disabilities. B. Wheeled vehicles are required to yield right-of-way to pedestrians. C. Group Riding - no more than two shall ride side by side. D. Racing--Trick riding. It is unlawful to perform in any kind of trick or unsafe riding or operating on the Strand. E. Dangerous Speed--Penalty. The speed on the Strand is 8 miles per hour. Reckless and dangerous riding is prohibited. F. Designated Walk Zones. The Walk Zone between 14 th Street and 11 th Street is active when the red lights are flashing.
