1 Nile River Festival 2016 January 21 st t 24 th (versin 2 19 th Jan 2016) General Rules: All cmpetitrs must sign in and pay entry fees n (r befre) the 21st January during the afternn s registratin. N entry fees = n cmpeting. Entry fees must be paid in cash nly. Registratin will be at Explrers Campsite, Bujagali. Event registratin will als be taking place at Adrift, Nalubale and Nile River Explrer s raft bases fr their emplyees. The decisins by the rganisers n all matters relating t the Festival are final. Any cmplaints regarding judging decisins will have t be submitted within 20 minutes f the relevant event finishing. There will be fur events as utlined belw. Events can be entered individually r as a grup. All cmpetitrs must have their wn travel insurance and must prvide a cpy t the rganisers at registratin n request. Only playbats t be use fr all races and freestyle cmpetitin. Yu must use the same kayak fr the endurance, freestyle and Itanda Falls race. Yu d nt need t use the same kayak fr the big air ramp event All cmpetitrs cmpete cmpletely at their wn risk and shuld understand that the cmpetitin and the rganisers are in n way respnsible fr the paddlers safety during any part f the cmpetitin.

2 BIG AIR RAMP RULES - There aren t any scring rules, ther than impress the crwd! The cler it lks, the higher yu are likely t scre. Judging will be dne with a mix f kayakers and nn-kayakers, each will have scre cards frm ne t ten, and will hld them up after each attempt. Cmpetitrs must have a helmet and buyancy aid n fr every attempt. Cmpetitrs cmpete at their wn risk. Big air ramps present risk f high impacts n landing and ther ptential injury risks as well. This event des nt cunt twards yur verall ranking EXTREME ENDURANCE RACE RULES - Cmpetitrs must enter in grups f 2/pairs fr safety purpses. At least ne cmpetitr per team must be familiar with the sectin Mass start fr all cmpetitrs frm belw Silverback dam. Team cmpetitrs/pairs must arrive within 30 secnds f each ther at the finish line f the NRE take ut and must be within 30 secnds f each ther at any pint dwn the river. Failure t cmply with this means that the individuals are nt sufficiently able t prvide safety fr their teammate and the team will be disqualified. Safety is prvided by yur teammate, nt by the event rganisers, s take all the nrmal precautins yu wuld n a nrmal day n the river. All cmpetitrs shuld be at a sufficient ability level t paddle all the rapids they chse cmpetently. N Dead Dutchman, Kalagala r Hypxia channels. Other than this, cmpetitrs may chse the lines and channels they wish, s lng as they are chsing lines that they are cmfrtable running and at least ne f the team knws well. Cmpetitrs must cmplete the assault curse at the finish line and a beer funnel befre the time stps. Any nn-drinkers will have t d a sda funnel. Playbats nly fr the race. Yu have t use the same playbat fr all the river events (the big air ramp yu can use whatever yu want).

3 NILE SPECIAL FREESTYLE RULES - Event frmat: Prelims: Cmpetitrs will be split int grups. We will run a jam sessin frmat f arund 20/30 minutes per grup. Max. 1 min per surf. If a paddler stays n the wave after 1min, a whistle will be blwn t indicate this, their mves after the whistle will nt be scred. Finals: Tp 5 paddlers will enter a final (subject t change depending n numbers/time/water levels). Assuming suitable numbers there will be a separate wmen s final. Final will be judged using the same frmat as prelims: a designated time slt (f minutes) will be used and the scring system described belw will be used. Nile Special scring system Frm the whle jam sessin, each cmpetitr s best three mves will be cunted. Any separate mve can nly be scred nce (e.g. a paddler des right blunt and a left blunt, they will nly scre it nce). This is t encurage variety. Only aerial mves are cunted. This is t encurage peple t g big. The mves are scred in the fllwing way: 1pt: Blunt 2pt: Backstab, Panam, Sidekick, Flashback. 3pt: Dnkey Flip, Flip Turn 4pt: Airscrew (landing n hull), Silly Flip, Pistl Flip, Back Panam, Helix 5pt: any new mve r single mve that is awesme and nt a standard mve (such as Back Airscrew r similar). Bnuses will be added t encurage peple t d awesme cl things and make it lk spectacular: 1pt: big 2pt: huge (can t scre big and huge n same mve) 1pt: clean (nt using yur paddle) 1pt: stuck n the wave

4 0.5pts will als be awarded fr spins and rundhuses. Fr these tw mves, bnuses will be award at 50% f their scre. Fr example a clean spin stuck n the wave wuld scre 0.5pts fr the spin plus 0.5pts fr being clean and 0.5pts fr staying n the wave Mves can still be scred if they flush, this is because sme mves are amazing but dn t quite stay n the wave afterwards, but a bnus will be given if a mve sticks (because its even mre awesme if yu d smething cl and it stays n the wave). 1pt: extra flair at the judges discretin, if a mve lks especially nice, r the paddler des a paddle twirl r smething else cl they can have a flair bnus! 1pt: cmb If a paddler des a blunt t backstab, he will scre the whle cmb as ne f his mves, e.g. blunt 1pt, backstab 2pts, cmb bnus 1pt = 4pts. Paddlers can use the same individual mves in different cmbs e.g. paddler can scre blunt t backstab and blunt t McNasty as tw different cmbs, but can t scre blunt t backstab twice. Spins are eligible fr cmbs. Each mve can scre bnuses in the cmb. e.g. clean blunt t huge backstab wuld scre: blunt 1pt, clean 1pt, cmb bnus 1pt, backstab 2pt, huge 2pts Judging will be fair and impartial! HENDRI COETZEE MEMORIAL ITANDA FALLS EXTREME RACE RULES - **This race is dangerus. If yu d nt have the skills t race this rapid r are uncertain in any way, just watch and a Red Bull n the bank!** Hendri Cetzee put the fllwing rules in place many years ag thrugh many discussins abut the ptential fr a race. They are nn negtiable and if yu dn t like them, dn t cmpete. Entry will be by invite nly r cmpetitrs must prve their ability t run Itanda Falls cmpetently thrugh vide ftage r at least tw referees (knwn by rganisers).

5 Prelims: Race will be tw paddlers racing tgether head t head with times fr each cmpetitr being recrded. Start will be in the eddy abve the ramp n river left. Finish line is just behind the Bad Place in the eddy n the right. Any cmpetitr wh takes the chicken line (right f bad place) will be disqualified and presented with a funnel. Cmpetitrs must hit the bad place, the V line, r g left f the bad place. Finals: Fastest 6 cmpetitrs will g thrugh t a final judged n style. The scring system will be simple. We want yur grandmther t see wh is winning. It shuld be that bvius. The scring system des nt put cnstraints n the paddler, wh is free t be creative, imaginative and t d whatever they feel t be mst impressive. Judging will be in a strictly cme dancing frmat (yes, yu did read that right). There will be 4 judges: 2 kayakers and 2 nn-kayakers. They will have a number between 1 and 10. If they like what they see yu will get a gd scre. Organisers will ensure judges are fair and impartial. Cmpulsry finish line is the centre f the bad place. Skirting the bad place n either side will results in scring 0 pints. Yu have t be 18 years ld r lder t cmpete in the Itanda Race.

6 ENTRY FEES AND COSTS A NRF t-shirt is included with any event entry. Event 1. Big Air Ramp 15$USD (r 15,000ugx fr UG citizens) Includes: Entry int the big air ramp cmp, a free beer and an NRF t-shirt. Event 2. Extreme Endurance Race $20USD r 20,000ugx fr UG citizens Includes: Entrance int the endurance race, transprt t Silverback frm NRE campsite, transprt back at the end t Bujagali fr thse wh want it, a meal and water at the take ut and an NRF t-shirt. Event 3. Nile Special Freestyle $20 r 20,000ugx fr UG citizens Includes: Entrance int the freestyle cmpetitin, entrance int the Saturday night party at NRE, transprt t/frm the river and a free beer/sda and an NRF t-shirt. Event 4. Hendri Cetzee Itanda Falls Memrial Race $20 r 20,000ugx citizens Includes: Entry t the Itanda race, transprt t/frm Bujagali/Itanda, a free beer and an NRF t-shirt. Entry t all 4 events 70$USD r 70,000ugx fr Ugandan citizens. OVERALL WINNER The verall winner f the Festival will be wrked ut as a ttal frm events tw, three and fur. It des nt include the ramp event. The winner f each event will get 50pts, 2nd place 49pts, 3rd place 48pts, etc The ttals will be tallied up after each event. The verall winner f the Festival will be the cmpetitr with the mst pints at the end. In the case where multiple peple are tied n pints at the end, then the best result will split the tie e.g. a 1st, 3rd and 5th will beat three 3rds. 2 x mens and 1 x wmen s place at the WWGP 2017 are available!
