1 Title: Age: MightyBugs Early Learning Goals: CLL: to be able to sustain listening, responding to what they have heard by relevant comments, questions or actions. PD: to recognise the importance of keeping healthy, and the things which contribute to this. Physical Benefits: Monkey strengthens and tones the leg muscles, Washing machine releases stiffness in the shoulders, Dog strengthens the arms and lengthens the hamstrings, Rocking the baby keeps hip mobile, Additional Resources: Puppet to use to address the children. Music: Relax Kids CD. The majority of the songs used in this class plan are available from the A-Z Songs, Stories and Nursery Rhymes. Parent Pointers: Parents should join in throughout the class as children will copy them. When we do nursery rhymes or songs, parents should sing a long too. Introduction: 3mins Tick children s name off the register as they enter. Shoes and socks off. Settle the class down and ask parent/carer to sit in a circle with legs stretched out with their child in between their legs. Welcome: 4 mins Introduce yourself and your puppet. Sing the welcome song. Welcome, welcome everyone Now you re here, let s have some fun. First let s clap our hands like so Now s let s bend and touch our toes. Welcome, welcome everyone, 1

2 Now you re here let s have some fun! Well done everyone! Now shall we play a quick game of eye spy with colours? I spy with my little eye someone wearing red socks/a blue t-shirt, green trousers etc If the children have on that item they can put their hand up and shout out their name. This encourages self-confidence and helps children to recognise colours. If the children are not responding, ask for parental involvement to encourage their children. Warm Up: 5 mins Today we are going to warm up with a song. Who knows Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes? Great let s sing it together and remember to touch your eyes, ears, mouth and nose! Play Music Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes, Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes, And eyes, and ears, and mouth and nose, Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes. Class Plan: 28 mins Today we re going to meet a lot of nursery rhyme characters that are going to teach us lots of new songs. Will you help me to sing them? OK, let s go., I spy Tom Thumb. (Mouse) Tom Thumb in the cupboard, I spy Mother Hubbard. (House Mother Hubbard dusting up high) I know a song about Mother Hubbard. Shall we sing it together? Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard, To fetch her poor doggie a bone. (Dog) When she got there, the cupboard was bare, So the poor little doggie had none (Shake head). Oh no, Mother Hubbard needs to go shopping doesn t she? Mother Hubbard down the cellar, I spy Cinderella. (Dancer on tiptoes move around the room dusting high and low) 2

3 Cinderella on the stairs, I spy the Three Bears. (Describe Daddy bear, Mummy bear and Baby bear. Daddy bear can growl very loud like this. Mummy bear has a medium growl like this. and Baby bear has a tiny growl like this.. Show the children lion x3 Grrrrrrrr then ask them to join in) Three Bears out hunting, I spy Baby Bunting. (Sit with legs open and rock arms, more capable children can hug their leg rocking a baby) Lets all rock our babies and sing Baby Bunting to sleep, Hush a Bye Baby, on the tree top, (rock arms as if rocking a baby) When the wind blows, the cradle will rock; When the bow breaks, the cradle will fall, And down will come baby, cradle and all. (Roll onto back in happy baby pose) Well done MightyBugs, now she s fast asleep let s go see someone else. Baby Bunting fast asleep, I spy Bo-Peep. (Ask children to be Bo-Peeps sheep -cat pose) Oh dear MightyBugs Bo-Peep is sad because she s lost her sheep. Shall we sing her a song to cheer her up? Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep,(dog) And doesn t know where to find them. Leave them alone, And they will come home, Wagging their tails behind them. Look! Bo-Peep has found her sheep at the top of the hill, let s follow her. Bo-Peep up the hill, I spy Jack and Jill. Does anyone know a song about Jack and Jill? Great Let s sing it together. Jack and Jill went up the hill, (marching on the spot) To fetch a pail of water; Jack fell down and broke his crown, (mouse) And Jill came tumbling after. Up Jack got and home did trot, (marching on the spot) As fast as he could caper, He went to bed and bound his head, (mouse) With vinegar and brown paper. 3

4 Poor Jack. I hope his head doesn t hurt too much. Let s keep walking. Jack and Jill in the ditch, I spy the Wicked Witch. (Witch on a broom surfing pose) Wicked Witch over the wood, I spy Robin Hood. (Surfer holding bow and arrow) Robin Hood in his den, I spy the Bears again. (Lion x3 Grrrrrrrr) The Bears said that a girl named Goldilocks has just eaten all their porridge so they are off to find some more. But before they go they are going to teach us a song about Goldilocks, so let s all sing it together. A bowl that was huge, (stretch out arms) A bowl that was small, (hold hands close together) A bowl that was tiny, and that was all, (hold hands closer together) More able children can do bow/boat pose. A chair that was huge, (stretch out arms) A chair that was small, (hold hands close together) A chair that was tiny, and that was all, (hold hands closer together) More able children can do chair pose., A bed that was huge, (stretch out arms) A bed that was small, (hold hands close together) A bed that was tiny, and that was all, (hold hands closer together) More able children can do cat/dog pose. A bear that was huge, (stretch out arms) A bear that was small, (hold hands close together) A bear that was tiny, and that was all, (hold hands closer together) 4

5 And they growled at her, grrrrr, grrrrr, grrrrrrrr! (Lion x3) Oh goodness me, I hope Goldilocks wasn t too scared! Well the Bears are off hunting so we best say goodbye Bye Bye Bears. Three Bears still hunting, THEY spy Baby Bunting. (Sit with legs open and rock arms, more capable children can hug their leg rocking a baby) Baby Bunting safe and dry, I spy Plum Pie. (Sit in pizza pose and eat your plum pie.) Go round the room and ask the children to tell you their favourite flavour of pie. Now make a pie with the children: Who can help me make a plum pie? Wait for children to answer then ask them to sit up tall with their legs open wide. Ask them to place a big bowl between their legs and tell them we re going to add all the ingredients to make a plum pie. Stretch up high and reach for the flour, add some to the bowl. Reach behind you to the fridge and find the eggs, now crack the eggs in the bowl. Next reach to your right and fetch the milk and add it to your bowl. Now everyone grab their giant spoon and mix up the pie (sun circle). Lets sing a song whilst were mixing our pie. Pat a cake, pat a cake, baker s man, (clap hands throughout rhyme) Bake me a cake as fast as you can; Pat it and prick it and mark it with B And put it in the oven for Baby and me. Lastly we need to mix in the plums (sun circle). Let s sing that song one more time. ( pat-a-cake). Now let s put our pie in the oven to cook (washing machine). Well done everyone that smells lovely. Plum Pie in the sun, I spy EVERYONE! (Monkey jumps and waving) Relaxation and Visualisation: 5 mins Excellent work today children, now it s time for our special relaxing time. Get the children and parent/carer to lie down and play some Relax Kids music. 5
