1 Galway Elementary School Galway Gazette Winter Edition Picture SGA Canned Food Drive By: Mikayla Bellman and Trevon Beasley What is the canned food drive? The can food drive is an event for Montgomery County Public schools. We do it to help the families who don t have any food to eat for Thanksgiving.. What is the process? First, SGA sent notices home. Next, they collected the cans for about a month. Then, the SGA members gathered up all the cans. Finally, they counted the cans, every day Where did the cans go? The cans went to the Montgomery County Food Bank who then distributed the cans to various families. What was our goal? We do it because not all families have something to eat. - Arielle Cohen, SGA Sponsor Our goal was to collect 1,014 cans. We reached our goal and the entire school got to have a DJ dance party.

3 Book Review The War That Saved My Life By: Brianna Broadnax The War That Saved My Life written by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley is a book telling the story of the life of a girl named Ada Smith who was born with Club Foot and locked away in her one bedroom apartment and lives in the beginning of World War II from the rest of the world with only her abusive mother who beats her daily and calls her Ugly or A cripple. The only real friend Ada has is her younger brother Jamie Smith, Who their mother daily reminds Ada that she would never be normal. But when London is sending children to the countryside for safety from the war, Ada runs away with Jamie and boards the train, Disobeying everything her mother said about going outside of their apartment. Is Ada really free or is her escape worse than she thought? Rating: The Red Pyramid By: Brianna Broadnax Rating: The Red Pyramid is written by Rick Riordan. It is the first book of the Kane Chronicles. This novel revolves around two siblings, Sadie Kane And Carter Kane. Carter (Who is 14 years old) lives with his father Julius Kane, Who studies the Ancient Egyptian times for a living. Sadie on the other hand lives with their grandparents. The only reason the two brother and sister don t live together is because a family secret that had been passed down for centuries. The Kane family shared The Blood Of The Pharaohs. Which meant that this family had magic in their bloods. Because of this cursed it caused it caused the horrible death of Ruby Kane, Sadie and Carter s mom. Soon Sadie and Carter find out that they too have this magic after something goes terribly wrong! Will they learn how to take control and fight back the evil forces of magic? Read the book to find out!

4 University Review University of California, Los Angeles By: Mikayla Bellman Introduction UCLA is the University of California, Los Angeles. The University was founded by Ernest Carroll Moore, and Edward Augustus Dickson on May 23, UCLA is located in Los Angeles, California and their colors are blue and gold. UCLA received 113 NCAA titles, 261 Olympic medals, and 12 Arthur Fellows. Their school colors are blue and gold and their mascot is the Bruins. UCLA Process To get into UCLA you need a GPA over 3.5, a SAT score of 1100, and an ACT score of 22 or higher. To get into UCLA without a scholarship it coasts $136,224 for four years, and $60,238 for a year on campus. UCLA s acceptance percentage is 18%. They are best known for their academic, research, health and care, cultural studies, counting to educate, and the athletic program. Life on Campus 74% of students say that the college dorms are good quality and another 74% say that the dorms social atmosphere is great. On the campus crime is low and they say that police are willing to do anything. Due to this, students say that they feel safe on campus. On campus, UCLA offers a splendid amount of activities and clubs like the Beat Beat SC bonfire (which is the biggest bonfire on campus and they cheer on victory for the Bruins against the Trojans. Athletics UCLA s Athletes received 261 Olympic medals and 113 NCAA titles. Men s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and water polo. The women s sports include basketball, beach volleyball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, and water polo. In 2016, a video of a UCLA college gymnastics student at a competition against Utah s gymnast Sophina DeJesus (AKA the hip hop gymnast) dancing on floor to hip hop music went viral. This video was so viral that the video now has over 40 million views! Because of her swaggy moves, she made her way onto the Ellen show and let me tell you, she even performed there. But did her moves get her the sweet victory? The answer is YES! They beat Utah by 2.0 points!.

5 Kids Making a Difference By: Tishe Otuyelu You wake up every day and go to school and you don't think twice about it, but there are people in other countries people who fight to go to school. The students at Tenafly New Jersey Middle School created a club to help the kids in need in Ethiopia. They raised money to find a way for the kids to have a way to learn. They try to find a way to make sure kids have an education. It helps small children in Ethiopia have a place to learn because there are many children in need in both there and throughout the world. Her baggy eyes were dark, along with her rather long hair. Everything felt the same to her. Everything was infuriatingly boring. To her, at least. She then felt as if the world was spinning. Her head pounded, it hurt. She put a hand on her chest. The sudden pain wouldn't go away. Rei placed her head on her palms. The girls heart was pumping fast. She wanted it to stop. Abruptly, she jerked her head up, looking for someone. She ran out of her room, as it looked like it was disappearing. Coughing, she fell. Everything went black. Moments barely passed when suddenly, she woke up in an unfamiliar place surrounded by unfamiliar faces. Everywhere looked worn out.
