Principal s Message.. On January 26th we completed the first semester of the 2016-2017 school year.

These past five months have been exciting ones! Our talented teachers are spending time working on improving teaching and learning in a number of ways.

1 Principal s Message.. On January 26th we completed the first semester of the school year. I am genuinely proud of Lake City High School and would like to commend and praise our student body, our ASB officers, and the faculty at Lake City High School for an excellent first semester. These past five months have been exciting ones! Our talented teachers are spending time working on improving teaching and learning in a number of ways. Teachers spend Monday morning collaboration time pouring over assessment and survey data and adjustments to their lessons to answer the specific educational needs of our students. Because LCHS has such an experienced, energetic and veteran staff, and because our cross-district collaboration and curriculum efforts have been so successful, we are confident that our students are benefiting educationally. I would like to thank our teachers for all their efforts! This winter has been equally successful with our winter sports and performing arts events. Fight for the Fish was a huge success. Held at Lake City High School on January 13th, this immensely popular sportsmanship promoting basketball game included performances by our STOMP group, our Den Men, our cheerleaders, and our Pep Band. We can all be very proud of the entire student body for their sportsmanship and incredible display of school spirit. Special thanks to our activities director, Jim Winger; our student council advisor, Amy Alderman; our band director, Tim Sandford; and our cheerleading advisor, Crissy Gilmore. I also want to take this opportunity to thank our support staff! Our secretaries, custodians and food service staff are the best in the business! In addition to all of the work students are putting into our numerous academic clubs, sports and activities, they are also hard at work in the classroom. PSAT exams were taken by all of our 9th, 10th and 11th graders in October. After informational class meetings with students and a parent meeting to assist in interpretation of results, PSAT testing results were sent home with students. If you have any questions about these results, do not hesitate to contact your child s counselor. Also, please mark your calendar for the following informational meetings: Every third Tuesday of the month in the library at 5:30 pm: Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) open to all parents to meet with me over various topics; and parent teacher conferences are March 8th from 4-7:30pm. As we begin the second semester if any parent has concerns about the academic progress of their son or daughter, please contact our Counseling Office to make an appointment with your child s counselor. You can also contact individual staff members to review your son or daughter s academic progress via . The best way to track the academic progress of your student is through Family Access. 2 Parents, In order to make certain all our students receive appropriate educational supports, Coeur d Alene School District 271 conducts a mid-year residency verification. Residency is defined as where your family sleeps at night. Has your residency changed since September 6, 2016? If yes AND if any of the following statements are true for your family, please contact your school counselor or the Coeur d Alene School District McKinney-Vento Liaison, James Curb at ext. 1061or jcurb@cdaschools.org for more information about educational services that may be available to your student(s) and family. We are doubled up with friends, grandparents, or other family due to economic condition. We are living at a motel / hotel because other housing is unattainable. We are living in a domestic violence shelter. We are living in transitional housing. We are sleeping in public places or abandoned buildings. We are living in a car, trailer or campground. We are living in a home for pregnant or unwed mothers without another place in which to live. I am a student not in the physical custody of my parents or guardian. Spring Sports Registration Night at LCHS Wed. Feb. 22nd 6:30p-7:30p there will be a spring sports registration in the library at LCHS. You can come pay your travel fee and ASB (if you haven t yet). Also you will be able to use the computers to do the online registration at lakecitysports.com. If you have not registered yet online it is very important to do this. We will have computers. You need to bring heath insurance information, emergency contact information and current physical (if needed) Physical forms can be found online at lakecitysports.com or you may pick one up in the office from Holly in activities. If you have any questions you may reach me at hmorgan@cdaschools.org. TENNIS The first day for the spring tennis season is Friday, February 24. We will meet in the Commons. All paperwork will need to be turned in to the office prior to this date. Meeting Wednesday, Feb. 22nd - 6:00pm - 6:30pm - - Parent Meeting - Library Wednesday, Feb. 22nd - 6:30pm - 7:30pm - (Parents) registration night /Online registration and pay fees! Tryouts 1. Friday, Feb. 24th - 3pm - 5pm = Hitting Facility and Gymnasium. 2. Saturday, Feb. 25th - 9am - Noon = Hitting Facility and Gymnasium. 3. Monday, Feb. 27th - 3pm -5pm (Make up tryouts) = Hitting Facility and Gymnasium. There will be an informational meeting for track athletes and their parents/guardians on Wednesday, February 22nd at 6 pm in the auditorium. General information will be discussed (schedule, practice times, meet info, state track, etc). This will also be an opportunity for parents to pay fees, finish paperwork, etc. The meeting will take less than an hour. Thanks

4 LOCKERS Lockers are issued on a first come first serve basis. As property of the school, lockers may be inspected by school officials (Board Policy 3370). The cost of repairing any damage to a locker may be charged to the student. Never leave money or valuable personal property in your locker. This applies to PE lockers as well. Student may only use lockers assigned to them. Students are prohibted from using a locker for the storage of illegal contraband, or potentially harmful items, including but not limited to, weapons, drugs, and alcohol.

5 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - LCHS March 18, 2017 Julie Larsen (208) mxchamp@msn.com 15th Annual Spring Craft and Garden Show at Lake City High School Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 9a.m. 4p.m. For the past 30+ years, local parents have sponsored an all-night drug and alcohol free event for high school seniors immediately following their graduation. This annual tradition provides a safe alternative for students to celebrate one of the most important nights of their lives. The primary fundraiser for this event is the 15th Annual Spring Craft and Garden Show which will be held in the Lake City High School Gym and Commons Areas on Saturday, March 18, Artists and vendors from all over the Northwest will showcase hand-crafted personal items, fabulous gift ideas, purses and jewelry, photography, pottery, wood carvings and more! Enjoy gourmet concessions, live entertainment all day, a bake sale and an hourly raffle while you shop. Please shop these local vendors that support and celebrate our students and their accomplishments. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early; doors open at 9a.m. Admission is $1. Lake City High School is located at 6106 N. Ramsey Road just south of W. Hanley Road. All proceeds benefit the 2016 LCHS Senior Class drug and alcohol-free Graduation Party.
