1 Rosebud Primary School Newsletter August 2018 Hip Hop Incursion The Hip Hop incursion this morning got the grade 5's and 6's movin' and groovin' Grade 6 Moonlit Sanctuary Selfie at Moonlit Sanctuary, the people you meet. Maths Inspired, motivated and energised are only a few words to explain how our teachers were feeling after an amazing professional development day with Maths guru, Michael Ymer! Check out some of the awesome activities our teachers are using in the classroom! Hands on, exciting, educational maths activities and games that have been a hit with our students!!!

2 Bears of HopeWhat a wonderful response to our "Bears of Hope" wear your PJ's day. We raised over $680, which gave Bekky Collander the magical $6000 to purchase the cuddle cot. This will go a long way to reducing the stress and trauma with families going through a heart breaking time. STEM What an amazing learning space!! With the intent to encourage collaborative work, maximise the use of space, and give our students the opportunity to work more hands on, our STEM area has been revamped. Wow! Operation Op Shop Operation Op Shop launched last week for a hobby group as a way to raise the profile of what is a major fundraiser for our school. The children will select items that appeal to children and run a stall at school on Thursday lunch times and Friday afternoons. Come along and browse through toys, games and dress ups in the Grade 4 BER!

3 Rosebud Secondary College Performance I had the privilege of seeing Saturday nights performance of Fame put on by the Rosebud Secondary College. It was a sensational night and a huge congratulations to all involved. Many of our alumni were in the performance and did an amazing job. Many thanks to the Rosebud SC for organising the buses and giving our grade 5 children the chance to see it last Thursday. Book Week Our dress up parade is on Wednesday 22nd August.

4 Hands On Learning The Hands on learning teams led by Rob and Tammy are doing some amazing work around the school. Grade 4 6 Hobbies Auditions for the school musical began in hobbies today. Huge thanks to our drama expert Naedene Barraclough Boomerang bags began as a hobby today. Children learning to sew, make bags etc, from recycled fabric. Huge thanks to Gwen and her dedicated band of volunteers from boomerang bags. Visitor Hannah Trigger Snowboard halfpipe rider Hannah Trigger, Olympian at the Sochi 2014 Games paid Rosebud Primary School a visit and spoke of her determination to succeed and her passion for winter sports!

5 Hooptime What a day at Grade 3/4 Hooptime in Frankston!! We had close to 70 kids (half of who had never played a proper game in a stadium) and had the best fun all day long. Of 16 teams in total, 9 were from our wonderful school and the Rosebud PS chants were heard loud and clear. The strong relationship between our school leaders and younger students was in full effect once again with 7 grade 6 leaders assuming full coaching responsibilities for the entire day. Well done to all of the grade 3/4 students who played their hearts out and a huge thanks to our teachers involved and the cheer squad of parents! A special mention to one of our future stars teams who won their grand final and now progress to the regional finals! Grade 4 Retirement Village Visit Today some of the Grade 4 s went to the Rosebud Retirement Village to meet the residents. They will be getting to know them over the next few weeks. It was so lovely to watch them interact and they ALL had a great time!

6 Wakakirri Can you believe that these costumes are made from plastic bags, after the performance they are straight to the art gallery!!! Amazing work Mrs Bodger!!

7 STEM News We had a number of children over a weekend going to the science talent search at different venues all over the state. They have created some amazing science board games, inventions or working models and we wish them well doing their presentations. As part of Digital Thinking, grades 3-6 have been learning to draw using single point perspective. The pictures below belonged to Sophie (G5) and Leah (G6).

8 The Grade 4 s have had a fantastic time learning S.T.E.M. We have worked collaboratively and explored science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics to problem solve and create solutions to various challenges. Our first challenge was to create a Mars lander that could touchdown without breaking up. The second challenge; A Bridge too Far saw students design and build a bridge spanning a 300mm gap. The students created some amazing pieces of work, including one bridge that weighed less than 275 grams and was able to hold over 5 kg without failing!
