1 TROY HIGH SCHOOL WARRIOR WEEKLY October 5, 2018 It has been a wonderful autumn week at Troy High School! We are well into the fall semester and the first marking period has passed. Students, we are now quickly moving towards 1 st Quarter grades, so this is the time to stay focused! This weekend, students will have an extra day this weekend to rest, relax, and catch up on assignments. On Monday there is no school for students. For Troy staff Monday, October 8 th is a Professional Development day. Regular school business and class schedules will resume on Tuesday, October 9 th. Last week we celebrated Homecoming 2018, capped off by our Homecoming Rally, Football game, and the dance on Saturday night. Thank you to everyone, especially our ASB for helping bring school spirit to the next level over the course of the week with a fantastic rally and

2 dance! Later, Friday night our Football team, Band/Color Guard, and Cheer did not disappoint when we celebrated a fantastic win over Sonora High School and were treated to a magnificent field show! It was a great night to be out with the Troy community! There is much information that can be found on our school website. If you do not already have a copy of the link, here it is. We have six to ten people that input school information, dates, times, events, etc. to our website and we do our best to keep information up to date and accurate. If you have a simple question, or are seeking general information, our web pages may give you the answer, especially if you think of a question you need answered while getting a late night snack. Refrigerators have computer screens, right? Just recently, a new instructor started with our NJROTC. His name is Lt. Roger Fronek and he took over the position vacated by Chief Kellie Fernandez. Lt. Fronek retired after a very successful career in the U.S. Navy during which he served in both enlisted and officer capacities before recently retiring as a officer. During the summer, his interview for the position was the first time I have ever made a phone call to Afghanistan, which was an interesting experience in itself. Happily, Lt. Fronek was a great interview and after some stellar reference calls, our HR

3 offered him the position with Troy! It is with great pleasure we welcome Lt. Fronek to the Troy family and I am certain, like the rest of us, he will love Troy and consider this his home for many years to come! This weekend, our NJROTC is going to do something they have never done before. On Sunday, Commander Lauper will be taking a Color Guard cadet team to Hollywood to present our nation s colors at the Ms. Veteran America Event. This event raises money for various veteran groups that help homeless veterans as well as providing an entire host of services for vets having ended their time in the military and beginning their next careers. In honor of this event and cause, Troy is also bringing our first Troy all-female Color Guard to present the colors. I look forward to hearing about the event and the audience s response to our Color Guard team! Monday, Girls Golf Coach, Mr. Jerry Cowgill was very pleased to report our Troy team demolished the competition when they took home all of the prizes at the Walnut High School Lady Mustang Golf Tournament. Having worked at Walnut in the past, I am sure Walnut High School is not used to getting beaten like this at their own tournament. Our team shot 8 over par and beat the host team by 21 strokes. Congratulations, Warriors! This week schools throughout the nation recognized National Custodial Workers Recognition Day on October 2 nd. We have a tremendous staff of custodians here at Troy and

4 they are unsung heroes at our site on a daily basis. This school could not function without everything they do, and I know from the staff stream on this topic which was a torrent on October 2 nd, we recognize the great job they do for us! Thank you, Troy s Custodians! Years ago, there used to be something at Troy called Goodie Days. Using Assistant Principal, Mr. Lance Bletscher s narrative, Back by popular demand, Troy is going to enjoy a fabulous feast on the first Friday of each month! So, start thinking about what favorite dish or dessert you want to bring!!! The Main Office took the first date, which is today. I am unsure who suggested the return of this event, but our Troy s Departmental Leadership Team enthusiastically endorsed it s return This month we have the Halloween theme. I don t know if we can handle having more treats in the office. My wife made our pumpkin cupcake cream cheese spider frosting treats, but asked me how I am supposed to get in shape before the holidays. I maintain that round is a shape. Next Tuesday, October 9 th our Troy Tech Magnet Program hosts the annual Troy Tech Mentor Breakfast in the North Gym from 7:30 9:00am. It is our chance to thank our summer internship mentors for their support and also a chance to showcase what our senior Troy Tech

5 interns accomplished this past summer with their help and support. We anticipate a good number of mentors, over 220 attending the event and it is always a wonderful opportunity to speak with our mentors and hear their perspectives, suggestions, and encouragement, regarding our Troy Tech Magnet Program. Thank you, to all our mentors and internship partners! At the beginning of this school year, Admiral Lindsey visited Troy and addressed our NJROTC cadets. After his talk, and seeing the construction projects, he expressed interest in taking a tour of our school, a request which I was happy to oblige. For an hour, the admiral toured the school, saw the updates to our facility, and spoke with students and staff. I received this thank you note from the admiral this week, and I don t think he will mind that I am sharing his comments with the Troy community. We always represent ourselves well and it shows! On Wednesday, Cyber Instructor Mr. Allen Stubblefield let me know that one of our Cyber teams qualified for the Cyber Security Awareness Worldwide competition! This event is

6 sponsored by the School of Engineering at New York University (NYU) and is held in Brooklyn, NY on November 8 10 th. Even better, NYU covers all the costs of travel, accommodations, and meals for the students and chaperone. Students, Christos Bakis, Jimmy Li, and Rahil Shaw will be accompanied by Cyber Coach, Allen Stubblefield at they try to take home 1 st place! Speaking of school spirit, our school colors are red and black. I am unsure exactly how the red pant idea started, but I suspect a certain avid golfer Assistant Principal, Mr. Bletscher is behind it. Surprisingly, it was not too difficult to find red pants I found mine at JC Penny. Friday is Troy spirit day, and here is the group photo of the happy front office bunch! Last weekend, I encouraged people to check out the wonderful fall colors in California. The colors are especially vibrant in various locations throughout the state and this website, has some almost real time photos that give some great examples of places to visit. For our students and families, if you are not booked up this weekend it may be an opportunity to enjoy the extra day and see some of Mother Nature s fireworks!

7 We all love being at Troy either as a student or employee but at some point each day we return to the families with which we live. This is a great thing especially when you know there is an enthusiastic perhaps overly enthusiastic greeting awaiting you It was difficult to hold my phone, Luna is quick. I hope everyone is able to spend time with friends and family!
