Mr. George, Principal Core Values December s Core Value is Caring. Caring is the quality of showing interest, concern, and compassion for others. 2 Classroom and Club Connection Key Club Several of the Morgan Township Key Club members volunteered their time to help the BFC (Bikers for Christ) with their annual Dinner of Hope to benefit the Salvation Army Angel Tree. Members served dinner to the more than 200 people in attendance. This is the second year Key Club has had the honor of volunteering at this dinner. MT M/HS Newsletter Page 2 of 10
Middle School Science with Mrs. Sutherlin 8th Graders Explorer Animal Adaptations Mrs. Sutherlin's 8th grade science classes are exploring natural selection and adaptions by designing a lizard that would survive in her classroom. Students created subspecies that had adaptions ranging from spikes to camouflage. The picture shows the class comparing species and adaptations and recording data. East Porter County Junior Honor Society The East Porter National Junior Honor Society has had a busy start to the year. The members have been busy collecting Toys for Tots which runs until Dec 14th, making cards for a local nursing home and decorating the middle school hallway with snowflakes. 4 High School Science with Mr. Atwood and Mrs. Dippo On the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving Break, Mr. Atwood and Mrs. Dippo had their annual Thanksgiving Day Speaker Program for their Bio II, Chem II, and Chem III classes. Former Morgan Twp. students that are now in college are brought in for a discussion session about their college experience. The discussions included freshman year experience, college study habits, choice of major areas of study, the importance of getting to know your professors, and graduate school. This was a very informative and enlightening experience for our upperclassmen! Art with Mrs. Braun Advanced Drawing students are excited to participate in this year's Annual MLK Young Aspiring Artists Competition. This year's theme is "Conscious Humanity: What is Justice?" The show will be on display in the Harre Union Atrium at Valparaiso University from January 7-20th, The reception and award ceremony will be in the Ballroom of the Harre Union on January 10th from 5-6:30pm where our students will be honored and one will walk away with a monetary award. Mrs. Braun is looking forward to celebrating with the students this special evening so please be in attendance. Good luck students!!! Popcorn Contest Wish Mrs. Stoner and Mrs. Braun's students luck as they enter a contest through popcorn.org at the end of this month. They are looking forward to the opportunity to win up to $2,500 toward our classrooms!!! Here are some pictures of the Art Club building a Cherokee head out of popcorn! 5 Library with Mrs. Savage and Mrs. Lawless We recently purchased some new books and students were invited to rent a book at a convenient READ BOX location (the library), at no charge! Please encourage your student/s to squeeze some reading between all the screen time, especially over Christmas Break. Here is a website for ebooks. This is especially good for students who don t really like reading, The password and username is read. There is no debate that reading contributes significantly to the success of a student. Wishing all of you a blessed holiday season! Hoping the Grinch does not steal your Christmas, but instead your hearts will burst with thankfulness at all the joy! Maggie and Lis High School Student Council MT M/HS Newsletter Page 5 of 10
The High School Student Council has had a very busy November and start to our December. On November 5-6 th, Mrs. George and 11 members embarked on their journey to the Indianapolis Convention Center where they attended two days of conferences, listened to two amazing guest speakers, interacted and networked with student councils from all over the state, and brought home their plaque for 15 years of Honor Council Status. This year was extra special as they joined with Washington Township to create a project which awarded them Gold Honor Council status for the first time in the history of Morgan Twp. On November 11 th we were blessed to host our Veterans Day Assembly for the entire school, grades K-12, along with 50 visiting Veterans. A big thank you to our Chairman of this Committee and our Master of Ceremonies, Alyssa Millen, and our Guest Speaker, Corey Herma, as well as our HS choir and 4 th grade choir led by Mrs. Snyder, elementary boy scout troops for passing out flag pins and welcoming our visitors, Eagle Scout Sean Ennis for presenting our colors with the boy scouts, and Andrew Wasz for his moving rendition of Taps. We were very honored to have so many veterans and their families from our community present at this event. MT M/HS Newsletter Page 6 of 10

On December 8 th we hosted a Blood Drive with the American Red Cross during Thursday of Homecoming Week Wear Neon Day. A big thank you to all students, staff and community members who came out to donate blood, especially those who bravely donated for the first time!!! We had 33 donors register, and we were able to collect 25 total pints during our 4 hour drive. This can save up to 75 individuals in need!!! Our next blood drive is tentatively scheduled for Monday, March 6 th. Below are a few of our brave (and glowing) students who donated. On December 9 th we held our Homecoming Coronation between the JV and Varsity games. Thank you to all students who came out to the game and supported our boys teams as they took on KV what an awesome Pep Block that night!!! Congratulations to our entire court, and winners: Homecoming Princess Alexis Longoria, Homecoming Prince Luke Lemmons, Homecoming King JP Paniagua, and Homecoming Queen Kimmie Swisher. MT M/HS Newsletter Page 8 of 10
And a big thank you to all students who attended our Homecoming Dance Neon Night on December 10 th and our Homecoming Chairs Andrea Michaels and Cait Clute for putting everything together. The Homecoming Semi-Formal this year was lots of fun, and because it is Student Council s main fundraiser for the year, ticket sales allow us to give back to the community throughout the year. Thank you so much for braving the weather and coming out!!! Below is a picture of set-up on the morning of, and a couple of pictures of the dance filled with neon glow sticks and black light reactive balloons and decorations. This week marks the start of our Secret Santa Week with staff. We are very excited about what this week holds in store for us as this is one of our favorite celebrations of the year. We kicked off this week with Door Decorating for our Staff Members to get them in the Holiday Spirit. MT M/HS Newsletter Page 9 of 10
