1 The Spirit of Moore February 2015 Volume 1 Edition 3 Bylaw Basics The MPS bylaws for cheer and pom are a document meant to help sponsors, parents, and squad members understand responsibilities and guidelines for participation. This month we are reviewing a new requirement added to the bylaws! Tryouts (Article II): A minimum score of 120 must be obtained to be placed on a high school cheer/pom squad. This applies to varsity and junior varsity. A minimum score was put in place for the first time for our high school teams. This will encourage our students to take the tryout process seriously and prepare accordingly. It is the hope of our school district to form teams that are prepared to grow together with a base set of skills and use that starting point to build throughout each year. Spirit Coordinator Message Tryout packets are here! I am so excited to see what is in store for our upcoming teams. We have had a great season so far! Two of our teams brought home national championships. Congrats to MHS Cheer for winning the NCA Intermediate Large Co-Ed national championship! WHS Pom brought home both the Small Varsity Hip Hop and Small Varsity Jazz NDTC national championships. The Moore School district has a fantastic group of athletes and our spirit squads are no exception. As we move towards to the upcoming year please take time to look at the new bylaws included in the tryout packets. Our big focus in the upcoming year is to begin work on vertically aligning our high school squads with our junior high feeder squads. We hope to build up our programs throughout the district. By working together across all levels we will bring a new sense of unity and pride for all schools. Brook Lehew will serve as the tryout co-coordinator with me this year. 2 Sponsor Spotlight Patsy Harkness Highland West Junior High Patsy is the cheer sponsor at Highland West Junior High. She has been a highly qualified paraprofessional for the past 7 years. Her favorite thing about serving as cheer coach is getting to know the girls and watching them grow as cheerleaders throughout the year. In her free time, Patsy likes to watch movie with her family, read, and do crafty things! Thanks for all your hard work Patsy!

3 Spirit Leaders of January Central Cheer Orion Henderson 8 th Grade West Cheer Kyah Galindo 7 th Grade Orion has been a cheerleader at CJH for the past two years. She is working hard to improve her tumbling skills. She also runs track. Orion works hard at practice and helps other cheerleaders. When I need a leader to step up, she is always up the task. Holley Sykes Southmoore Pom Cheyenne Tee 10 th Grade Kyah has never cheered before this year, and she is our newest flyer! Kyah loves food, and hanging out with her friends. Also, she is excited to try out for Moore West again in the spring. Kyah has the greatest attitude. She never complains, & always keeps a smile on her face. Kyah gives encouragement to her teammates, and always does the right thing this year, I am so proud of her. Megan Burrow Highland East Cheer Avery Holland 8 th Grade Cheyenne LOVES chocolate covered strawberries, wants to try every drink at Starbucks, and wants to own a fish named Clark. She hopes to own a dance studio one day. As a sophomore, Cheyenne is a returner to the Varsity squad. Her ability to clean routines and motivate the team shows her dedication to making the squad better. Cheyenne s dedication helped lead the team to a State title this year and she continues to work hard to compete for a National title in March! Ladawna Hunter Avery is the STUCO president, has a 4.0 GPA, plays competitive soccer, and is part of the track team. She is a member of National Junior Honor Society and likes to take cute selfies. Both Autumn and I appreciate Avery s fun spirit and leadership within the team. Nubia Holland

4 Moore Pom Chelcia Espinosa 12 th Grade Southmoore Cheer Sarah Copus 10 th Grade Chelcia loves street dancing and hanging out with friends. She is the captain of the pom squad. Chelcia has been on the Varsity squad all of her years in high school. She was a great leader and example for the other girls while at Nationals. She set the bar high for the girls and encouraged all of them while at Nationals. Amie Ware Westmoore Cheer Rebecca Schoolcraft 9 th Grade Sarah is captain of the varsity team. She has only been cheering the past four years. She loves to play volleyball and Peter Pan. Sarah is captain of the squad. Being only a sophomore and captain would be difficult for anyone but she has risen to the challenge. She has worked above and beyond her required amount of work and is consistently volunteering to do additional work. She is an impressive young lady and I can see great things in her future. Delynna Kelley Highland West Cheer Bailey Adams 8 th Grade Rebecca is a 1 st year WHS cheer. She is a very caring person who loves animals. Rebecca is the pure definition of spirit with her big smile and her hard work ethic. No matter what is going on during practices or cheer events, she is always positive as she consistently strives to be the best she can be. Gretchen White Bailey has a great passion for Cheerleading. She loves to listen to different cheerleading mixes to see if there is one that could be used for her team. Bailey won All American Cheerleader for One of Bailey s goals is to cheer for OU. This is Bailey s 2 year on the HWJH Cheer Squad and she is one of our Captains this year. She is a very dedicated to everything she does in life and Cheering. You have to work really hard if you want to be good at cheerleading, Bailey is an exquisite cheerleader and she is going to be greatly missed. Patsy Harkness

5 Brink Cheer Rylee Kate Aduddell 8 th Grade Moore Cheer Madyson Palmer 12 th Grade Rylee is a member of the Raindrops dance team with the OKC Thunder. She is currently the STUCO Vice President. She has a passion for dance, school and making people smile. Rylee Kate always has a positive attitude. She is not only a leader on the squad but a wonderful leader within our school. She is a hard worker and someone her team can depend on. She is a joy to have on the squad. -Adrianne Harless Madyson started cheering when she was 3. She won Miss Oklahoma High School in She has won NCA five times. Mady is very driven and expects perfection. She influences those around her to strive to be the best they can be as well. Shana Lewis
