1 FAIRFIELD COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT! OCTOBER 4, 2010 Pence Elementary October Newsletter From the Desk of Mr. Wear Pence YouTube Channel Each time I sit to write the newsletter I am always amazed at how quickly the time goes. While summer seems like it was just yesterday, we now face October and things at Pence are in full swing. Our staff is dedicated to your child! Many of you signed up with your list during open house. You will be receiving this newsletter via as well as many other updates. If you do not receive an and would like to be added to the list, please notify our office at and we will get you added to the distribution list. Paper copies of the newsletter can be sent home with individual students at your request. We will also have copies available in our office. Our box top coordinator is Cynthia Post and she has several great ideas to help earn money for our school! Clip box tops and send them to school. There will be monthly prizes and contests for students. Also, parent teacher conferences will be coming the first week of Novemeber. We are also having our book fair during that time so be sure to check out those events on the calendar. The month of October brings us halfway through the first quarter. If you have any concerns about your child please do not hesitate to contact your child s teacher. Often, sitting down to have a meeting can solve many issues. We are your children s greatest advocates but we need strong parent involvement for our partnership to flourish. If you need to reach me please call my office at , home at or you can me at nathan.wear@fairfieldsfuture.org. -Mr. Wear, Principal Pence is on the web! Not only can you find updates at our webpage but now you can get updated videos on the Pence Elementary YouTube channel. You can sign up to receive notification when a video is posted. Only students with current permissions will be shown on the web. We plan to put several updates on the channel. user/penceelementary? feature=mhum or you can search for PenceElementary channel on YouTube. 3 You Can Make a Difference for Our with Box Tops! We ve recently launched our Box Tops for Education fundraising campaign. This year we ve set a goal of earning $ through Box Tops to help purchase various items needed throughout the school year. Here s how you can help: Clip Box Top coupons from favorite products and send them to our school. Sign up to support our school on the Box Tops website at btfe.com Shop at over 100 favorite online stores through the Box Tops Marketplace (btfe.com/marketplace); our school earns up to 15% of your qualifying purchases, at no additional cost to you! Purchase books through the Box Tops Reading Room SM at Barnes & Noble; our school earns up to 6% of your purchases. Sign up to support our school today at You ll get updates on our school s Box Tops earnings, money-saving coupons, family-pleasing recipes, chances to win Bonus Box Tops for our school and the latest Box Tops news! I have created a facebook page (Pence Box Tops) that will keep you updated. We are also going to post newsletters and contest pages on the schools website. There will be collection sheets with various contests throughout the school year. You will find extra collection sheets at the office in the Box Tops box or on the schools website. There will be months were there are not collection sheets. Simply place box tops in an envelope or Ziploc bag, please mark you name and teacher name on the bag those months. Having your name and your teachers name will ensure credit for contest and prizes. Many bags were turned in last year without names and went uncounted for towards contest and prizes. We are going to be doing some different contest and having lots of fun with it this year. So contact your grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, anyone you know that is not saving their box tops and ask them to save them for you to bring to school. Please trim box tops without cutting off expiration dates. Remember to put your name on bags and collection sheets so they get added to your total!! For more information on how you can help our school earn cash through Box Tops, contact Cynthia Post, our Box Tops coordinator, at or cynthiapost@iowatelecom.net or visit btfe.com. Here are our monthly contests this year: September-Regular collection-put your box tops in a Ziploc bag with your child s name on it. October-Halloween Drawing Cover all the pumpkins on the sheet (multiples if needed) turn them in and on October 22 th we will draw a sheet form each grade for a free pass to the Corn Maze at Atwood s Pumpkin & Tree Farm. November-Regular Collection December-For every stocking sheet filled they get a raffle ticket with a drawing before Christmas break for a stocking full of goodies-one per grade. January-Fill up your snowman sheets. For everyone 20 Box Tops your class collects you get a piece to your snowman. The first class to complete their snowman gets a party in their room! February-Boys vs. Girls contest March-Regular Collection April-Fill in your 50 box top collection sheet. The first class to collect 500 box tops gets root beer floats!
