Dear Early Childhood Parents, Early Childhood had another great week. It seems like only yesterday it was the beginning of school and now we are almost done with our third nine weeks.

2 Dear Early Childhood Parents, Early Childhood had another great week. It seems like only yesterday it was the beginning of school and now we are almost done with our third nine weeks. It is truly amazing to see just how much our students have grown. Please continue to keep up the good work in always having your child so ready to learn. Please check your child s folder nightly and keep on reading. Pre K parents if your child is not quite yet reading you can read to them. Our High School Mission trip was such a great success. Dr. Mayes will be coming to an Early Childhood chapel soon to tell us all about it. I would like to thank you again for all of the donations that we received. You are always welcome to attend our chapels on Thursdays at 8:15. Dr. Seuss Week will be the week of February 29th. We will be sending more information home soon. I know that Early Childhood teachers have many fun lessons planned for that week. Please take the time and read a Dr. Seuss book to your child. These books are a great way to enforce rhyming and nonsense words at home. SAVE THE DATE Current Kindergarten Parents Elementary Division Open House & Preview Day Tuesday March 15th 8:30am In closing I would like to give a shout out to Mrs. Martha Long. As most of you know Mrs. Long is our Director of Operations. Mrs. Long spends many hours on learning how to keep us safe and implementing many kinds of safety drills. I really don t worry about safety at PBS because I know that we are in good hands. Please keep us in your prayers as you are always in ours. 3 Dear Elementary Parents, We have so many fun learning days ahead this quarter! February 29 March 4, we will be celebrating Read Across America Week. It is celebrated nation wide to honor Dr. Suess and encourage reading. Ms. Rivers has been very busy planning lots of fun activities for our students to encourage them to read. Next week, our students will participate in many activities throughout the week beginning with optional dress up days. Daily (optional)dress up days: Monday, February 29 Green Eggs and Ham wear green shirt with uniform bottoms Tuesday, March 1 Fox in Socks wear crazy socks Wednesday, March 2 dress as your favorite book character Thursday, March 3 One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish wear red or blue shirt with uniform bottoms Friday, March 4 Cat in the Hat wear a crazy hat (Please keep in mind that dress up days are completely optional.) In addition to these fun dress up days next week, we will celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday, vote on our favorite Dr. Seuss book, and more. Be sure to read your favorite book with your child this week. Our actions speak loudly to our students. SAVE THE DATE Current Fourth Grade Parents Middle School Division Open House & Preview Day Thursday, March 17 th at 8am Our second and third graders will be traveling outside their classrooms this week to further their academic experiences. On Tuesday, February 23, our third graders will visit the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum. Friday, February 26, our second graders will visit the Rural Life Museum and then picnic at Highland Road park afterwards. Please pray for good weather and safe travels for our students and teachers and blessings upon those sharing their knowledge with our students. Our God is so good! Please join us as we worship and praise Him in chapel this Thursday morning in the sanctuary at 8:15 a.m. Elementary chapel is an uplifting time for all! 5 Dear High School Parents, This week, I would like to take a moment to commend a few students who have achieved an impressive level of success: Senior John Costanza has been recognized as a National Merit Finalist for his achievements on the PSAT test taken last year. John scored in the 99th percentile of students taking the test across the nation. This is an incredible achievement. The PBS Silver Steppers competed in the United States Dance/Drill Team Championship and came away National Champions! Congratulations to our Steppers! The PBS Choral Department hosted the LMEA Solo/Ensemble Festival. The following students received the highest rating of superior for their solo performances: Lexi Averett, Allie Cotton, D Lisia Lloyd, Lauryn Meyer, Mallory Rosetta, Madison Rumfola, Angelle Smith, and Emily Territo. Congratulations on an outstanding job! The PBS Lady Eagles basketball team, under Head Coach Christina Anderson, scored an exciting victory this week in the first round of the playoffs. The Lady Eagles will take the court again on Monday at 6:00 pm at Donaldsonville. The PBS Men s basketball team, under Head Coach Brandon White, will begin playoffs begin this upcoming week. Brackets come out tomorrow and we will post the details as soon as we receive them. Please come cheer on our boys during their quest for a state championship in the playoffs! Both the Men s and Ladies soccer teams notched notable playoff wins in the post season playoffs under Coaches Roger Charcap and Jeremy Fontenot. Both teams seasons have come to an end, but the soccer program is looking strong for the future. A group of 15 PBS students and teachers just returned from a mission trip to Jamaica over the Winter Break. Lives were touched and an eternal impact was made on our students and those they were able to serve. We have had countless students taking part in community service opportunities all over the Baton Rouge area. These intangible hours of service to our community are making a difference in people s lives. One of our high school Bible teachers approached me this week about a student who had given his life to Christ this year and was so eager to grow in his new relationship with Christ. That is the kind of victory we celebrate at PBS! Every day we have opportunities to celebrate success at PBS. The days are long and the work is hard for our students, our teachers, and our families who have entrusted their children s education and future to PBS. The hard work is paying off. Let s celebrate!
