1 ATHOLTON HIGH October 15, 2015 Atholton Community, Parents will gain access to Canvas beginning October 23 rd. You will have an opportunity to see your student s assignments and grades. Teachers will begin posting 1 st quarter s final grades in Synergy on October 30 th and report cards will be distributed on November 9 th. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Foose will be recognizing our Wind Ensemble for their selection to the National Concert Band Festival this Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the Howard County Board of Education meeting. The Wind Ensemble is one of 24 bands selected by application from across the nation to perform in Indianapolis, IN. They are the only band representing Maryland and we are the only school from Maryland to be selected twice (2011, 2016). We appreciate Dr. Foose's support for their work and success! I hope you will be able to join us for Pizza with the Principal on October 22 nd at 7:00 p.m. We will meet in the media to go over the school improvement goals and discuss the upcoming year. PTSA Staff Appreciation On September 30, 2015, the Staff Appreciation Committee hosted a Flavors of Fall event for the staff of Atholton HS. Committee Chair Amy Bagley and co- chair Felicia Freedman
3 along with coordinators Monica Spain and Maureen Bentz organized a wonderful table of pies and apples. Thank you to the volunteers who donated homemade or store bought pies! No need to sign up just show up! ARL Shadow Day The Applications and Research Lab (ARL), in partnership with Atholton High School, invites students to participate in the annual Shadow Day activities. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to discover the ARL. Current 10 th graders may choose specific programs to explore on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 17 and 18. Current 9 th graders are invited on Thursday, November 19. Students will ride the ARL bus from Atholton HS to the ARL and back, and as a result, will miss their regularly scheduled first and second period classes. To find out more about the ARL, please visit their website at arl.hcpss.org. Interested students may visit the Student Services Office at Atholton HS for more information and to obtain a permission slip, which are due back to Atholton Student Services by Friday, November 6. Boosters: JROTC Boosters - Come out and enjoy a great dinner at Chipotle for a fundraiser benefiting the JROTC Boosters. It will be held on November 2nd from 5pm - 8pm located at 6181 Old Dobbin Ln, Columbia MD (beside Party City). Bring friends and bring families, please see a JROTC student or member of boosters to get a flyer. If you haven't joined the JROTC Boosters please consider doing so.
