2018 Parent Information Packet ABOUT OUR TEAM The Klein Sweethearts is a cheer and dance team, organized to give young girls a positive and fun experience in participating in a team environment. We cheer for the Klein Rams football teams and learn dances to compete at a Drill Team Competition at the end of season. We stress to the girls the importance of good sportsmanship, being kind to others, and helping the team to achieve our goals. Or goal is for our girls to not only have fun and learn, but to grow and build character so that they can become positive role models and influences in our community. The mascot team was created so that we can give preschool and kindergarten aged girls a positive and fun experience in participating in a team environment. We also want to give them an opportunity to begin preparing to become a part of the Sweethearts team. They cheer and dance just like the older girls, but at a more age appropriate level. They always have a tendency to steal the show. METHOD OF COMMUNICATION All communication for the Sweethearts organization will be done via Team snap, bonzi or texting. The Team Moms are responsible for distributing information in an accurate and timely manner to each family. We are currently looking into using a group app where members can log in and keep up with all new and important information. Info on this will be given out with specific instructions coming soon! Each Thursday you will be given instructions for the next game, including time and locations, directions, changes in attire, etc. This will be sent out via . Please make sure you check your each week so you are up to date on any recent communications pertaining to your daughter s team. If you do not have access to , it is YOUR RESPONSIBILTY to contact your team mom each week for updates on practices, schedule or location changes, and new information. Also, please, if you haven t already, join our FACEBOOOK page: AAYFDT-Klein Sweethearts ATTENDANCE POLICY Each girl plays an important role in the choreography of our dance and cheer routines. Therefore, attendance of all team members at each practice and games is expected. Supporting the Klein Rams at the games is one of the main purposes of our organization. The attendance rules are governed by the AAYFDT. The girls will be learning new formation in the routines throughout the season. Your Sweetheart will be at risk of falling behind when she misses a practice. Reference AAYFDT Rules of Competition which can be accessed at EXCUSED ABSENCES Absences form practices or games will be excused only in the event of illness (doctor/parent note required), death in the family, or reasons previously arranged at the Drill Team Director s discretion. ALL absences must be reported in advance directly via phone call or text message to the Drill Team Director:
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES/TARDINESS Unexcused absence reasons include, but are not limited to: homework or text concerns, social opportunities, nonmandatory extracurricular activities. Arriving late (tardy) to practices or games (10 minutes after start time or more) is disruptive to the team and is not acceptable. If extenuating circumstances arise that will cause your daughter to be late to a game or practices, you must contact the Drill Team Director immediately by phone. Tardies and unexcused absences will lead to your daughter receiving a demerit and may result in her being excluded form cheering or dancing at that weekend s game. Any questions about the classifications of an absence as excused or unexcused should be directed to the Drill Team Director Danielle Alonso: Equipment Use Agreement Klein Sweethearts charges a $ equipment deposit fee. This will be the use of costumes, poms, competition poms, and everything else that is Sweethearts property. The accessory package is a separate expense from the Equipment Deposit Fee. These are items the girls will not be returning at the end of the season. Equipment deposit will be collected at the Parent Meeting (if not already received prior to), and will NOT be deposited unless items are not returned or are unacceptable condition at the end of the season in December. In an effort to keep the costs of the program down, it is important that all items be returned as soon as possible at the end of the season. All items not returned in a timely manner will result in the Equipment Deposit check being deposited to ensure we have the necessary funds needed to purchase replacement items for the following year. Merits and Demerits Merits and Demerits is our way of holding all sweethearts accountable for their behavior during the season. Required Expenses: Fundraising/Buyout $150 (NO REFUNDS) Due at registration ***This is the AAYFDT required amount paid by each participant in the league, which goes to pay for referees, use of facilities, fields, insurance, etc. Assessments/Registration $150 Due at registration 2
***This is paid by each participant on the team, and goes to pay for cheer uniforms, competition costumes, team competition ads, banquet expenses, poms, backdrops, and any other expenses associated with our daily practices or competition routines. Accessory Fee $160/$80 Due at Parent meeting ***To make it easier for parent to order everything your cheerleader needs, we have combined all of our required uniform accessories into one package. This includes the uniform shell, skirt, bloomers, pink out bow, game bow, a pair of socks, and practice uniforms. This year you will be reusing your uniform. If it still fits, your fees will be $80. If you cannot wear it, or do not wish to return next year, you can resell it for $35. ****** The cost of cleaning and any alterations that may need to be done to ensure a proper fit are the responsibility of the parent (s). Equipment Deposit Due at registration ***Explained in the Equipment Use Agreement section above. Volunteer Deposit Due at registration ***Each Sweetheart parent is responsible for a certain number of credits/hours of volunteer time to help ensure the success of our team. There will be many volunteer opportunities throughout the season and you can decide what you would like to volunteer to help with. This deposit does not get cashed unless the parent does not fulfill their required volunteer credit/hours. Optional Expenses Throughout the year, the Sweethearts have several extra activities, fundraisers, and expenses that might come up. These costs are estimations. AAYFDT Dance / Cheer Camp May The League will be hosting a Cheer Clinic. This will be a fundraiser for the league. The cost is between $30 and $35 per child, and is open to all girls in the league and their guests. Attendance is highly encouraged; the girls will learn a dance, cheers, chants, tips on jumps and motion technique. They will also receive a T-shirt for attending. Team Building June/July This is a fun social experience that not only helps the girl get to know each other outside of cheer, they will have a keepsake for the season and it will serve as a fundraiser for our team. We will meet at the art bar studio and paint! They will have a couple of options to choose from for their painting. This will cost between $25 to $30 per child. They are encouraged to invite friends and family to come out to paint and help support our Team. Pictures August We take team and individual pictures. Ordering is completely optional but can cost anywhere from $15 - $75 or more, depending on what packages you order. 3
Big Sis/Lil Sis All Season Each girl will be placed with another member of the team as Big Sis or Lil Sis. This is a fun way for the girls to get to know other girls and mentor each other. The girls like to bring special treats for their Big Sis/Lil Sis to homecoming and competition. It does not have to be store bought it can be handmade or something from home. Spirit Week/Raffle Basket September The girls can participate in spirit week by showing up to practice with crazy hair and silly socks. We will have volunteers collect items based on a theme for our basket that will be raffled off for our pep rally. Pep Rally Our entire Rams/Sweethearts organization rally s together to start off the season. We introduce all of board members, the teams, volunteers, coaches and sponsors. We raffle off baskets for fundraising. Fun fan gear will be available to purchase as well as concessions. Competition Ads October Competition is in November and ads are due around the beginning of October. These ads go in the Competition Book that each girl receives at competition. Ads typically cost anywhere from $25 for a ¼ page to $100 for a full-page ad. Flowers You can order flowers for your daughter for competition, usually around $ October Pomming November Pomming is a fun and exciting pre-competition tradition. The girls pass along a basket full of goodies for good luck. Cost is a maximum of $15. AAYFDT Competition Admission to competition is usually $10 per person. Sweethearts are free. November Banquet December Girls are free; however, family members pay a ticket price to cover expense of food. Tickets are usually $20-$25 depending on budget allowance and adult vs. child ticket price. Sweetheart Skating Party (Possibly) January We would like to get together as a team at the skating rink. The girls will experience a night of skating, fun and togetherness! Friends are welcome to come so they can learn more about signing up for the following year! 4
Sweetheart Game Day Volunteer Job Description Set Up/Tear Down You will arrive early to the game to coordinate and assist with setting up the Sweethearts sitting area at each stadium. In most cases, this involves setting up tents and bleacher covers in the bleachers, and hanging team banners. Team Mom Duties include, but are not limited to, taking attendance, escorting girls to the restroom during the game if needed, and checking girls out at the end of the game. Water Bottle Brigade You are responsible for bringing chilled water to the games for the girls water bottles.
