Congratulations Mrs. Smith's 5th grade class for being September's Box Tops Winner! 5th grade brought in the most overall for the month of September. They brought in 1068 box tops. Our total for the entire school for September is 2886 box tops. Bring your box tops in so that your class can be our October winner! Cardinal County Fair 10/25 We need YOU to help our teachers make the 5th Annual Cardinal County fair a success! Please sign up for general shifts, we will have specifics the closer we get to the event! Please fill out and send in the blue volunteer forms, due TOMORROW, or visit fcpto.com to sign up!! Spirit Shop Orders The Spirit Shop will be open this Friday from 7:30-8am. If you've received an that your order is here and have not yet picked it up please make plans to stop by then. Any orders not picked up by Friday will be returned to our general inventory. If you'd like to place an order for anything that we're out of, Friday will also be the final opportunity this school year to do so. Thank you for supporting the spirit shop where all profits directly benefit the school. Go Cardinals!

2 Early Release Day CULTURAL ARTS The Science of Sound Tom s Fun Band will be entertaining the 3 rd 5 th grade classes on October 24, October 29th and October 30th are Early Release Days. Students will be dismissed at 12:00pm. Kindergarten car riders will be dismissed from the front driveway. Lunch will be served on both days. Book Character Pumpkin Painting Contest Calling all students! Let s have some fun! Beginning October 20 th October 24 th, bring any size pumpkin decorated (not carved) as your favorite book character to the library. All pumpkins will be displayed during the Book Fair October 27 th October 31 st. Judging will take place October 30th and winners announced October 31st. ** Categories for prizes will be: Most Creative, Best Look Alike, Most Unique, Most Loveable, and Funniest ****Please pick up pumpkins on Friday, October 31 st. Any left after school will be thrown away Parent 2 Parent Oct 15 th 8 a.m. SHARE IDEAS PROVIDE FEEDBACK MEET OTHER PARENTS Please join Tara Ellis a parent to 3 Fall Creek Cardinals, a volunteer, and our PTO President as she hosts this focus group to continue in making FCE a great place for our kids to learn and grow. Our fall meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 15 th at 8 a.m. on the stage in the school cafeteria. This week s social skill: Trying When It s Hard 1. Stop and think. 2. Say, It s hard but I ll try. 3. Try it.

3 Do you shop at Deerbrook Mall? If you do you can help us earn money for our school. Fall Creek Elementary is participating in a rewards program called My School s Cool. We are competing with other schools in the district for $20,000 in reward money. Last year we earned $500. Help us win more this year! The more you shop at Deerbrook Mall the more points for our school. All you need to do is let us know which stores you shopped at and the amount you spent. You can do this in several ways: NEW THIS YEAR... Enter the store and amount into a form found in the Announcement section of our website ( The link to this form will be included in each weekly newsletter . You can send your receipts (or a copy) to school with your student a copy to: Kelly.Griffith@humble.k12.tx.us Thanks for your support! Come to school dressed to impress for Red Ribbon Week, October 27-31st! The Red Ribbon Week theme is "Love yourself: Be drug free". The top participating class will earn a class gift so make a note of the themes for each day! Monday, October 27th: "Crazy about me" day: come with crazy hair or crazy socks Tuesday, October 28th: "I'm a jean-ious": wear jeans to school Wednesday, October 29th: "I'm my own superhero": wear super hero badge made in class and/or a superhero shirt. Thursday, October 30th: "I mustache my friends to stay away from drugs": wear a mustache. The PTO will provide stick-on mustaches. Friday, October 31st: "Love yourself, say no to drugs": wear red

5 Fall Creek Elementary Fall Book Fair 2014 Dear Parents and Families, The Scholastic Book Fair will be at our school October 27 th October 31st with extended hours on the 2 early release days. We need volunteers to help put on a one-of-a-kind Book Fair. If you have some time to help us at our Book Fair, you can sign up to help by either logging onto SIGN UP GENIUS OR complete the form below and circle the areas where you would like to help out. 6 Sam s Soldiers Fight to End Duchenne Fun Run Benefiting: Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) in Honor of Samuel Stander The Standers are residents of Fall Creek, and their 6-year old son Samuel attends 1 st grade at Fall Creek Elementary. Sam was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) in January of DMD is a 100% fatal, genetic muscular disorder characterized by progressive muscular degeneration and weakness. PPMD is the largest organization focused on finding a cure for DMD. DMD research currently costs $85 per minute. The funds will help researchers find a cure for Sam and other boys affected with this disease. Our hope is to find a cure in Sam s lifetime. Register for this race to support the Standers and PPMD. Together, we can end Duchenne.
