1 JULY 2018 ALL ABOARD NEWSLETTER Message from Program Manager Seanna Herring-Jensen Hello everyone, There s so much to share with you and I am grateful that you have taken the time to read the information in this newsletter. Please make sure Cherie has your new Intake and Emergency Form (we causally refer to it as the registration form) so that we know how best to get you your copy of this newsletter each month. It is important that we keep sharing information with you as All Aboard grows and that we have accurate health and emergency information about your participant. The form is available at our website: Please fill it out completely and turn it in as soon as possible. ACTIVITIES: What a month June turned out to be, so many changes and so many fun things, it was a great time! We had astonishing science classes (did you know milk and vinegar can make a plastic substance??), unique crafts, and some yummy new snacks from our Healthy Snack Class (especially the Sweet Carrot Salad and, yes, it will be back by popular demand). We had a really fun visit by Officer Yuliya Wold who shared ways of staying safe when in public and promised to bring her patrol car next time. She s very cool! Tuesdays are themed days who doesn t want to celebrate National Oreo Cookie Day?! It s a super yummy holiday. Be sure to check out the Tuesday themes below and join us! Just a reminder, please send a lunch with your participant if they re planning to stay all day. We take a lunch break between 12:00-12:30 so participants can eat their lunches. We also have munchies and drinks available at our participant run Snack Shack for 50 and $1.00 but they are not a substitute for a healthy meal. BUSES: We have met with the Managers of DART and Para Transit to create a safer and more efficient parking area for buses while at All Aboard. As All Aboard grows with more participants, staff, and volunteers, we also grow in bus traffic and parking issues. We are grateful to these agencies for their expertise and willingness to help us create a better system for all. You may notice a new parking pattern when visiting All Aboard and it might make parking more difficult, but you may park in any available space including those above at the Knights of Columbus. But please don t park along the wall of Cascade Marine Service, they need that for their boat parking. Until we can find a larger building, we need to make use of what we have and with amazing partners like DART, Para Transit, Cascade Marine Service, and the Knights of Columbus, we re going to make great use! 4 th of JULY PARADE: By the time you read this newsletter, the 4 th of July may have already passed. But, if not, please come out and join All Aboard by walking with us in the Everett s Colors of Freedom Parade on July 4 th at 9:30am 12:30pm. We ll be meeting at Clark Park (Oakes Ave. & 24th Street, Everett) at 9:30. Pick up will be at 12:30 at Clark Park, the parade starts at 11:00. Dress up in your festive best, bring pom-poms if you have them, and join us as we cheer our way down the parade route. Families, friends, and caregivers are encouraged to join us. It s so much more fun when you do! (Unfortunately, there will not be a BBQ or lunch this year after the parade.)

2 DRAMA AT ALL ABOARD: Please join us for the All Aboard play The Wizard of All Aboard, held on Wednesday evening August 1 st and 8 th at 6:30pm. The play will be held upstairs from All Aboard at The Knights of Columbus (2913 W Marine View Dr, Everett). There is no charge for attending but donations will be appreciated. The participants and the Director, Diane Radabaugh, have spent many months perfecting their roles and creating props. It is a funny play written by Eddie, Jay, and Casey and is based upon the daily occurrences at All Aboard. Please come out, bring your family and friends, and show your support. THE ROYAL BALL: Everyone can use a little of the royal treatment in their lives. All Aboard will be holding a Royal Ball at Everett Naval Station on Saturday, September 15 th. This will be a sit-down dinner, Sunday best attire or formal wear, and will be open to all with special needs. We are still seeking donations and/or sponsorships to keep the cost affordable. Please stay tuned for more information. Thank you for your continued support of All Aboard and the changes we are going through. The participants seem to like the new activities and share ideas for others. There is never a dull moment at All Aboard! Have a wonderful July! Seanna Herring-Jensen Program Manager seanna.herring@allaboardwa.org Phone: Tuesday Afternoon Themes for July July 3: Compliment Your Mirror Day craft will be making foil mirrors.
