THE STAMPEDE MHS Journalism 7th Edition Buffs Stomp Out Cancer On Friday October 29, Manteca High had its annual cancer awareness football game. This year, it was a purple out game in honor of cancer fighters and survivors of any kind. Before the game, students who have family members who are suffering or have suffered cancer escorted them onto the field to respect them. Following this beautiful ceremony was the battle against cancer and Oakdale. Despite the very close conclusion of the game with ten seconds left on the clock, Manteca pulled through and took the victory from the mighty Mustangs with

Manteca Volleyball s Final Contest Written by: Joseph Santos Wednesday night saw the final regular season game for our girls varsity volleyball team. East Union won in a three set sweep, despite a closely contested match. The first set was decided after a loss. The second set was even closer at 23-25, but it didn t go in favor of the Buffs. The final set ended at 20-25, completing the sweep for East Union. Although the score is deceiving, this game was a close contest that saw two teams play at a high level. This game was the conclusion of the 2016 season, as the Buffs finished with a 14-7 record overall, and being 8-5 in the league competition. This was good enough to earn them 4 th in the Valley Oak League standings. With the end of the season having approached, the Buffs can appreciate another successful season and work towards next season. 3

Theatre Performance On the days October 3 rd and 4 th, Manteca High s intermediate theater class performed a collection of skits that focused on humor, life lessons, frustration and realization. The performances were great and a couple of standouts were: Blake Coronado, Juan Chipres, and Ezekiel Vanstaavaren. The Theater class did a great job on this production and we all wish more people could ve seen it. 4

Being a Student, Athlete, and a Senior Written by: Malia Parangan Being a student athlete comes with an incredible amount of stress, but also many rewards. Student athletes have to focus on school first because they are first a student. They have to keep their grades up while juggling sports after school. Managing time is very crucial because you need to have all of your school work done and on top of that, be mentally prepared for practice or games. The rewards that come along with being a student athlete is the feeling of being accomplished and excelling with so much on your plate. Now, imagine this times ten. That feeling would be how it feels to be a student, athlete, and a senior. The stress you have is amplified: stress from keeping your grades up, the stress from mentally and physically preparing for your sport, and the stress from figuring out what you want to do with your life. Being a senior, especially during October and November is extremely stressful by itself. You have to file for FASFA to see if you qualify for money to help pay for you re the next 4-8 years of your life. You have only 2 months to figure out where you want to apply. If you don t have any idea of what you want to do with your life, it makes it even harder. Having supportive people in your life can ease some of the stress but it will always be there until you have completed your mission. That s exactly what being a student, athlete, and a senior is: a mission. Being a senior, or any student, you want to make your high school experience memorable. So if anything is important to you then you will always find time for it. School, sports, college, and fun. You are trying your hardest to juggle school, sports, and your future on top of trying to enjoy yourself. Having to deal with one of these is already hard enough, imagine doing all three. Keeping a positive attitude and staying mentally strong will definitely pay off in the end. All your hard work and time that you ve invested into late practices, studying sessions, and focusing on your future will pay off when you are standing there on graduation day with a smile on your face. It will be worth 5 all the stressful hours when you are wearing your green and white, holding your diploma, knowing you ve worked the hardest you possibly could ve to get where you are on that day.

Manteca High School College and Career Fair Manteca High ran its third annual college and career fair. Representatives from 10 colleges, the Army, Marines, the California Conservation Corp, Kaiser, and several local business professionals all shared their expertise with MHS students. The college fair was the brain child counselor Rachel Strimska. This year it was planned and organized by student Richard Elks as his senior project, continuing for Strimska who is out on maternity leave. Richard worked on this project since last May, adding additional colleges, bringing several classes to the fair between the lunch periods to make the best use of the representative s time. The freshmen in Amy Gross's Success 101 class added this opportunity to prepare for the future. A special thanks to the MHS Academic Boosters who provided lunch to the presenters so that the freshmen could take advantage of this opportunity. Also, a thank you to Mrs. Tolbert's Link crew students who helped to bring in local community leaders to share their careers.

Clown Maniacs Written by: Andrew Gonzalez & Alyssa Pitambar With Halloween right around the tombstone and approaching quickly, a clown epidemic has hit the country with a bang. It has flamed fear and an created an uproar. This storm has prompted police alerts for peace. It has caused huge fear in the homes of many Americans. This Clown Hysteria is thought to be derived from South Carolina in late August, according to Time magazine. Substantial reports and claims have been made that clowns were trying to lure children into nearby forests. The frenzy has ignited a national sensation, with clown sightings reported in more than dozens of states from New York to California. Even though many have been hoaxes like the picture that has surfaced here at Manteca High School, other reports have led to arrests in many states. Apparently, 8 people face felony charges of making a terrorist threat, leading to clown-related activity These incidents have continued to add up. This week hundreds of people have gone out to find these mysterious clowns. Meanwhile a Connecticut school district said it is banning clown costumes and any symbols of terror. In Massachusetts, a college had to go under lockdown of an armed clown hoax. Clowns have been scaring children and adults since the 1900 s. This craze has been exploited by movies and novels over and over again. Many psychologists agree that the root of the problems lies in the fact that many clowns wear a heavy amount of makeup, and paint giant exaggerated emotions on their faces, which hides their true identities and feelings.

Purple Out Game 2016 Last year Manteca High held a Pink Out game to support Breast Cancer Awareness. It was extremely successful for the very first cancer awareness football game at Manteca High. The stands were decked out in pink and pink also covered our football players on the field. At half time those who have suffered from breast cancer got a chance of recognition and walked with loved ones across the track. The only flaw with the Pink Out game in 2015 of last year was that Pink only represents Breast Cancer. A few people who were in charge last year had to find a way to kindly decline those who have suffered from another kind of cancer, for example prostate cancer from walking. THE SOLUTION: Manteca High is the place for great things to happen! So this year we are holding a Purple Out game!!! You might wonder what the dramatic difference is because the only difference between last year and this year is the color. Wrong! Purple represents ALL cancers. This opens up to a numerous amount of people to walk and be represented. Room 65 is selling purple shirts for our purple game next week! The super cute shirts are only $7 because they are going to donate all of the money they receive from the shirts to a non-profit research program. If you think last year was successful, I can t wait for this year to be even more successful because the color purple allows for more people to get involved, represented, and supported. -Malia Parangan
