1 September 30, 2018 Bible Story Focus: God keeps His promises. Noah (God s Promise) Genesis 8:1 9:17 Memory Verse: Trust the LORD with all your heart. Proverbs 3:5, NCV Key Question: Who keeps His promises? Bottom Line: God keeps His promises. Basic Truth: God loves me. Social: Providing Time for Fun Interaction 1. Multicolor Search Made to Move: An activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn What You Need: Multicolored items from around the room Before the Activity: Gather several multicolored items from around the room (rainbow drawing or cutouts, several pieces of colored paper taped together, multicolored toys and balls, etc.) and hide them in easily found places around the room. Count how many items you ve hidden so you can make sure the children find them all. During the Activity: Gather the children in an open area of the room. Explain that you ve hidden a certain number of multicolored items around the room for them to find. Once they find something multicolored, they should return to the center of the room with their item(s). Before the Activity: Today we re going on a multicolor hunt! I ve hidden [number] multicolored things around the room. Do you think you can find them all? Let s work together and go on a multicolor search! After the Activity: Great job, friends! You found all the multicolored things on our multicolor search. I love ALL the colors, don t you? Today we ll hear about something beautifully multicolored in our Bible story. I can t wait! Transition: Move to Worship and Story by naming different items and asking if they are multicolored. You can name things that are multicolored and things that are one color only. Children will say yes or no to each item. Suggested items: rainbows, lemons, limes, dogs, apples, lettuce, toys, pickles, cars, strawberries, beach balls, money, trees, the ocean, turtles, etc. Curriculum Materials for 3- through 5-year-olds 2018 The rethink Group. Rainbow Match Made to Play: An activity that encourages preschoolers to follow guidelines while having fun and learning new concepts What You Need: Rainbow Match Activity Page; white cardstock; and red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple pom-poms Before the Activity: Copy Rainbow Match onto the cardstock. Lay the Activity Page in the middle of the activity area. Place all of the pompoms in a large pile next to the Activity Page. During the Activity: Encourage the children to pick a pom-pom and decide what color on the Activity Page it matches. Have the child lay the pom-pom on top of the matching color. Repeat the activity until all of the pom-poms are on the Activity Page. Before the Activity: I love rainbows! During the Activity: There is a rainbow on the table (point) and different colors of pompoms (point). Let s work together to place the pom-poms on the same color on the rainbow. (Do activity.) After the Activity: Great job! We are going to hear a super cool story today about a rainbow. I am so excited! Transition: Move to Worship and Story by naming colors that you see as you walk to the story area. Journal and Prayer Pray to God Prayer Activity Made to Reflect: An activity that encourages personal application and prayer What You Need: Paperclip Memory Verse Card in your Bible at Proverbs 3:5. Provide a journal and a fun-shaped pen for each small group. You will also need reward stickers or a hand stamp. SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): It s time. Today we re going to pretend to be Noah and his family. We FINALLY got off of that boat, and we re SO happy we re going to cheer all the way. Here we go! Let s cheer! 3 (Clap your hands and cheer as you lead the children to your spot.) Yay! We made it! Let s sit down and talk about today s Bible story. One, two, three, sit down with me! (Open the Bible and lay it open in front of the children.) I love today s Bible story! It was all about how [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises. God kept His promise to Noah to keep his family safe on the boat. God kept His promise to dry up all the water and let them off the boat. But then God made a new promise to never flood the world again. Do you remember what God made in the sky so everyone could remember that promise? (Pause for response.) Yes! A beautiful rainbow! And because we know [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises, we can trust Him with all our heart. It s like it says in our memory verse. (Turn the pages of your Bible to the Memory Verse Card.) Trust the LORD (point both index fingers straight up in the air) with all (stretch your arms out wide) your heart (bring both hands together over your heart), Proverbs 3:5. (Open your hands like a book.) (Close Bible and lay it down.) We can stand up and say that together one time with the motions, but then you can say it by yourself for a sticker/hand stamp. Sounds like a plan? (Pause.) Good! Here we go! CHILDREN and SGL: Trust the LORD (point both index fingers straight up in the air) with all (stretch your arms out wide) your heart (bring both hands together over your heart), Proverbs 3:5. (Open your hands like a book.) SGL: Sounds like you re ready! I want everyone to sit down. When it s your turn to say the verse, you can stand up. Who wants to try and say the verse first? (Give each child the opportunity to say the verse on his own. Have your stickers/hand stamp ready to give when they say it.) I am so, so, SO very proud of you! High fives for everyone! 4 (Hold journal and fun-shaped pen.) Today we are going to thank God for keeping His promises. I ll give you three choices. When I say your name, you tell me which promise to write by your name. Ready to hear your choice? 1. You can thank God for keeping His promise to always love you. 2. You can thank God for keeping His promise to always be with you. 3. You can thank God for keeping His promise to always hear you when you pray. Ready? Listen for your name and tell me which promise to write beside it. (Say each child s name and write down what they say. Remember to print the names so the children can recognize their names and the letters.) This is so sweet! I can t wait to talk to God about it. Would anyone like to pray before I pray? (Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so.) Prayer SGL: Dear God, thank You for keeping Your promises. There is no one like You. You are so loving and kind and amazing and powerful, and we just want to thank You for all You do for us. [Child s name] wants to thank You for (say what s listed). (Repeat for each child.) We love You, God! In Jesus name, amen. Groups: Creating a Safe Place to Connect 1. Pass It On Verse Hear from God Memory Verse Review Made to Move: An activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn What You Need: A heart pillow During the Activity: Gather the children to sit in a circle in an open area of the room. Pass the heart pillow around the circle as you repeat this month s memory verse together. Repeat as long as time and interest allow. Curriculum Materials for 3- through 5-year-olds 2018 The rethink Group. All rights reserved. 4
5 During the Activity: Friends, come sit here with me. (Hold up the pillow.) What is this? (Pause.) Yes! It s a heart. This month s memory verse says: Trust the LORD with all your heart, Proverbs 3:5. Let s pass this heart around the circle to our friends. If you are holding the heart when we say the word heart in our verse, go ahead and give the heart a big squeeze. Okay, here we go. Trust the LORD with all your heart, Proverbs 3:5! After the Activity: I m SO glad to know that [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises. I know that I can trust the Lord with all my heart in any situation because He will never let me down. Who keeps His promises? [Bottom Line] God keeps His promises. 2. Rainbow Filter Live for God Application Activity Made to Create: An activity that allows preschoolers to review the Bible story, Bottom Line, or memory verse by creating a craft What You Need: Rainbow Label Activity Page, Avery #5160 labels or equivalent, light blue cardstock (1 piece per child), large coffee filters (1 per child), water, eye droppers, and markers Before the Activity: Copy the Rainbow Label Activity Page onto the label paper and set aside. During the Activity: Give each child a coffee filter and the markers. Encourage the children to decorate the entire filter with the markers. Use the eye dropper to drop water onto the decorated filter. The colors will run together. Place the wet filter directly onto the cardstock to dry and take home. After the Activity: Help the children place the label onto the top of the cardstock above the filter. Before the Activity: We are going to make a really cool rainbow with water! During the Activity: First we need to put a lot of color onto our rainbow. Use the markers to decorate your ENTIRE filter. (Do activity.) Great job! Now it is time for the really cool part!
