2 Nurse s Notes I would like to remind everyone to be checking their children's heads for head lice and nits. The Iowa Department of Public Health has been putting out information to remind parents to check weekly. Take 15 minutes and check closely for live bugs and nits. Head lice are an equal opportunity offender, it does not discriminate based on gender, race, ethnicity or socioeconomic status. Hair is hair to this pesky little critter. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, mature head lice are about the size of a sesame seed. They live in human hair and draw blood from the skin, often causing itching. Lice lay eggs (called nits) on hair shaft. Live nits are found less than a half-inch from the scalp and most often on the hair at the nape of the neck and behind the ears. The recommendation is parents check their children's hair for head lice or nits once a week. Lice spreads almost completely through human hair to hair contact, pets do not spread lice. Head lice is more common among elementary students. Please be aware after sleep overs and sporting events. Discourage sharing hats or caps, hair ties, brushes and combs. Each child should have their own comb or brush. If you have any questions about treatment the Iowa Department of Public Health has a brochure on their website or contact the school nurse. Wash your hands! The number one way to prevent illness is good hand washing. Wash hands with warm soapy water for seconds. Wet hands, apply soap, scrub hands using lots of friction and then dry with a paper towel. Wash before and after food preparation, before eating food, after blowing or wiping your nose, sneezing or coughing, after using the toilet and after touching garbage. Hand gels or cleansers should only be used when running water and soap are not available. As we spend more time indoors and gather together with family and friends we are exposed to more germs. Washing our hands frequently, keeping hands away from our eyes, nose and mouth and covering our coughs and sneezes will reduce the risk of catching a nasty bug. Remember, germs are not for sharing. Marianne Hickey RN Tuition Statements Tuition statements were ed out on Tuesday, November 27. Please look it over carefully and if there are any problems, contact Leigh Anne Schares at the high school office, lschares@boscocatholic.org or If you have not made a payment please bring your account up to date according to your signed tuition agreement. Donor Challenge After speaking further with Dan "Class of 1971" and Nancy Schmitz they would like their $1,000 donation to go to replacing windows at Don Bosco. Each window has a $ replacement cost. We have 26 windows in need of replacement. If you would like to make a donation to cover the cost of one window, multiple windows, or part of a window, please contact Casey Redmond at the high school at Pee Wee Wrestling Practice Schedule Sunday, Dec. 2 5:00-6:00 PM Sunday, Dec. 9 5:00-6:00 PM Sunday, Dec. 16 5:00-6:00 PM Thursday, Dec. 27 5:00-6:00 PM Saturday, Dec. 29 Team Bosco Kid s Tourney Sunday, Jan 6 5:00-6:00 PM Sunday, Jan 13 5:00-6:00 PM Sunday, Jan 20 5:00 PM, Dodge Ball and Pizza Party All are welcome and feel free to contact me if you have any questions at Isaiah Corbin Bosco Catholic School System PO Box 256 Gilbertville, IA IC SJ Fax
