As we bundle up our coats and tighten our caps, we must keep our creativity and dedication to our goals in motion. Our school continues to provide enriching and challenging strategies as we progress through the school year. We have much to look forward to and many roads to travel as we continue on our educational journey here at Lincroft School. 2 Page 2 The Paw Print A Message from the President Visit today for additional information on upcoming events! I can t believe the second quarter has come and gone already. I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and that our New Year s Resolutions have a little more staying power than the Blizzard of Our hearts are huge at Lincroft. You proved that time and time again with your donations to the Tree of Wishes when we helped 8 families in need in Middletown over the Holiday Season and during the one week lead up to Super Bowl Sunday. Lincroft Families donated 283 cans of food to Lunch Break in Red Bank. The month of December was a big month for members of the band and chorus. Not only did they perform at Colonial Nursery, one of the PTA fundraisers, they also were able to show off their skills in front of two more audiences their parents at Thompson Middle School and their peers at an assembly at school. One of our biggest events in January is Lego Brickfest. We had over 100 entries. We had creations ranging from a solar panel party to Petco Store to a New York Giant s football game. I am always surprised to see how creative and talented our students are. We definitely have a couple of future engineers in our midst. In the coming months, we have the ever popular Read Across America week. Please check out the PTA s website for all the contests and schedule of events. Next up for the month of March is the Variety Show with a Throwback Thursday theme! Who will be our break out star this year? Come out to Thompson School on March 12 th and find out! Lastly, our book fair at the end of the month. Check out who is your child s favorite book? Is it the Fly Guy Series or the Percy Jackson Series? I just miss the Sweet Valley High books of my youth...is there anyone with me? Siobhan Cahill-Smith PTA President This year s Souper Bowl Canned Food Drive yielded 283 cans with the Seattle Seahawks winning with 160. (Although the real game had a different winner in mind!) Thanks to all who donated!!!

3 Page 3 Another Successful Winter Wonderland Event! The Lincroft PTA and Colonial Nursery held their third annual Winter Wonderland event on December 6. Despite the rainy weather, much fun was had by all who attended. It was a great way to start the holiday season, as everyone was treated to festive songs sung by the school choir, under the direction of Mr. Jupinka. An added treat was the addition of a performance by the school band, under the direction of Mrs. Domashinski. Everyone enjoyed hot pretzels, s mores, baked goods and hot chocolate as they shopped among the beautiful poinsettias and holiday arrangements put together by Colonial Nursery. A special treat was the presence of Santa Claus, who allowed children to take pictures with him as he gave out candy canes. As always, there are many people to thank for helping make the event successful. We would like to extend a special thank you to Dan and Jackie Coneeny for their generous donation of 15% of their proceeds, as well as all of their hands on help. We would also like to thank everyone who donated the much needed supplies and baked goods for the event. A big thank you to Meg Connolly, who brought the Tree of Wishes, which helped everyone get into the spirit of giving. We would also like to thank all the children who made signs to advertise the event, and all of the local businesses that were proud to display their artwork. A very big thank you to Lori Cowell and Kristen Trezza for all their hard work in organizing the Winter Wonderland. Excellent job!

11 Page 11 The Paw Print 2014 s Tree of Wishes. The Lincroft School community graciously donated countless items to help make the holidays special for 8 Middletown families this holiday season. Our adopted families received clothing, shoes, socks, many household items and so much more to help make the holidays special. 12 Page 12 The Paw Print Here are some fun facts about winter! (Courtesy of Mr. Graziano) It begins on the Winter Solstice and ends on the Vernal Equinox. Winter is the season with the shortest days and the lowest temperatures. Wind chill can cause problems during the winter. Wind chill is the combination of wind and temperature and is based on the rate of heat loss from exposed skin. When it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere. This occurs because the Southern Hemisphere is tilted away from the sun and the Northern Hemisphere faces the sun more directly because of the way the earth is tilting toward the sun. Trees and plants stop growing in the winter. Many animals hibernate or migrate away from the cold weather. Exciting News! The CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) program has been incorporated into all of our elementary and middle schools as part of our Wellness Revolution! Hopscotch Bunny visited our school during the kickoff in January! Visit for further details.
