3 Hi again Everyone- Miss Jordan and the health room want to bring you another fascinating fact for Substance Abuse Awareness Month Today s fact- drunk driving is not the only way alcohol leads to teenage death- about a third of alcohol related deaths in teens- are murders.

4 people drink to alter their state of mind- and when you alter your state of mind- you re not in your right mind anymore- and you make decisions that are dangerous to yourself and those around you. We want you to stay safe, so please don't drink and drive and don't put yourself in a situation where you are in danger because someone else is drinking

5 ATTENTION, JUNIORS! THE SENIORS MAY HAVE WON THE HOMECOMING HALL CONTEST, BUT WE WON T LET THEM WIN THE FOOD DRIVE! BRING IN YOUR NON-PERISHABLE CANNED GOODs TO THE MIXING BOWL EVERY DAY FROM NOW UNTIL OCTOBER 30 TH! IT S NOT JUST ABOUT BEATING THE SENIORS, IT S FOR A GOOD CAUSE! SO REMEMBER, JUNIORS BRING YOUR CANNED GOODs TO THE THE MIXING BOWL BETWEEN NOW AND OCTOBER 30 TH!

6 Attention all juniors!!! There will be a junior class meeting in the auditorium on Thursday, October 30 th during STEP. We will finalize the theme for prom, discuss the class of 2016 senior banquet, and discuss fundraising. All juniors should be in attendance. Again, there will be a junior class meeting on Thursday, October 30 th in the auditorium. It will begin promptly at 11:00 AM. It will not last longer than 20 minutes. All juniors should be in attendance. Remember if you don t attend and you don t vote-you cannot complain.

7 Attention Students, Make-Up picture day is today, October 27th. You will be released from your English class to have your picture taken only IF you have a picture packet. If you are not buying pictures but need a student ID card stop by the main office for a pass. Bring your packet and your smile on Monday!! Attention Staff, If you have not had your picture taken for the yearbook and your staff ID card, please stop by the auditorium today between 7:00am and 2:00pm to have your picture taken.

8 Attention all Drama Club members: There will be tech crew today after school at 2:30pm in the auditorium. We need you there the play is fast approaching!

9 Ms. Young would like to give a shout-out to her amazingly awesome and dedicated debate team. Watkins Mill was represented by six teams last night at Montgomery Blair High School at the MCPS monthly debate tournament. Three of our six teams were debating for the very first time, and they performed admirably. Two of our veterans teams also did very well. Avash Thapa and Angelo Dias went 2 and 0 in their debates, and Angelique Ryan and Lizzy Ankrah went 1 and 1 in their debates. More important than the wins and losses was the dedication displayed by this team. Despite it being so close to the end of the quarter, they worked extremely hard preparing for this event because they want to represent themselves and Watkins Mills with pride. They were successful in that endeavor. Ms. Young and the debate team would also like to give a HUGE thank you to Mr. Flaherty, Mrs. Rajeev, and Mr. Woodruff for giving up their valuable time and judging the debates last night!

10 Attention all students: The LFI students are running a canned food drive in the mixing bowl. Please place canned food in your class s box before Oct 30. The class who collects the most can attend a Halloween party Oct. 30!

11 The winning class of the food drive will be allowed to come to the Halloween Party in B109 during STEP on Oct 30th, but all students who attend must wear a costume. At the moment, the Junior class is ahead! Congratulations Juniors! Keep bringing in those cans!! Thank you and now for some career center and senior news

12 The deadline to return the permission slip for the Hispanic College Fair has been extended until tomorrow, Tuesday. Any Latino junior or senior who has not turned in a form can either turn it in today anytime or tomorrow by STEP. If you need a permission slip, stop by the College/Career Center today.

13 There will be a college fair for Latino Juniors and Seniors on October 29 at the Bohrer Park Center in Gaithersburg. Watkins Mill will take one bus of students to the fair from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Fifty colleges and universities will be present. The cost is free. Students need a signed permission slip to attend. Please stop by the College/Career Center to pick up a permission slip and to see the list of colleges that will attend. Signed forms will be accepted until Friday or until the bus is filled up whichever comes first.

14 There will be a parent night on October 28 for all Latino high school students and their parents at Gaithersburg HS beginning at 7 pm to talk about college readiness and financial aid for college. This event is on October 28, the night before the Latino College Fair. The event will be held in both English and Spanish. Stop by the College/Career Center for more info.

15 Remember students Watkins Mill High School will be partnering with the MVA to offer the Learner s Permit test here at Watkins Mill High School. If you were eligible to obtain your learner s permit and would like to take the test here at school, The completed application deadline was last Friday, October 24 th. The test date will be this Saturday, November 1 st at 1:00pm in the media center. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Prochnow. And now for some wolverine sports.

16 The SECOND indoor track and field interest meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 29 in room B104 during STEP. If you have any questions please see Coach Adams or Coach Belote.
