1 Southmoore Instrument Arts Program 20 Spring Calendar It is time to get started! We have another fantastic spring semester planned. As you look over this calendar, please take note of the following: Ø This calendar is up to date as of January 3, 20, however please review our band bulletins to confirm all times and events. Occasionally we must alter starting times and dates. Ø The calendar only looks busier than marching season. Students will average approximately one after school activity per week, sometimes less. Not every date on the calendar pertains to every student in the band. We have many different activities that occur in the winter/spring that are optional for our students. Take out your highlighter and mark the dates in which you are to attend. Ø Note that Woodwind Chamber Music s have been moved to Mondays to facilitate Jazz Improvisation s on Tuesdays. Ø Musical s will only involve those students to be a part of the. Ø All students participate in chamber music activities. Playing in smaller groups has become an emphasis of our program and has helped our band to raise their musicianship faster. Notice we designate most rehearsals as woodwind or brass. Make sure you attend YOUR rehearsal. Percussion rehearsals will take place in class and an occasional rehearsal as announced. Ø Attendance to after school rehearsals and performances are the major portions of your second semester grade. Ø The Southmoore band hosts the OSSAA Solo/Ensemble Contest on February. We will need help running this contest; especially considering our students also perform at this contest and we must ensure our students are set up for fantastic performances. Ø WGPO = Winterguard and Percussion of Oklahoma the organization in charge of administrating the Winterguard and Contest Circuit. We have three teams entered in the circuit, our JV and Varsity Winterguards and our Group. Please note, sue to contest restrictions, these groups generally do not attend the same contests. Ø Please be aware that students who voluntarily committed to Winterguard and agreed to a more active time commitment and a participation fee. Winterguard and dates are subject to adjustments due to rehearsal space that may suddenly become unavailable due to events outside our control. Make sure you keep up to date with the rehearsal announcements and your individual text alerts and official social media page and/or slack app. Ø Two a day rehearsals for next year s marching season will take place July 2 August, 20. Please make sure you avoid vacations during this time. The listed summer dates are tentative (two a day rehearsal dates are solid), the final Summer Schedule will be released in late April. We look forward to growing and learning together.
