1 Charger Connection Isle of Wight Academy October 2017 It s Sweet To Be A Charger This year s Homecoming theme, It s Sweet To Be A Charger was demonstrated all week long and was never more apparent than Friday night, October 6th! From Jolly Rancher Day to Red Hot Day, students dressed up all week long and got into the spirit of the Homecoming theme. On Friday, building floats, the Junior Senior Powderpuff game, and pep rally gave students a chance to demonstrate a little of that excitement that had been building all week. It was great to welcome our alumni back to campus on Friday night when the Varsity Football team trounced the Broadwater Academy Vikings Prior to the game, Joseph Whitley was named Alumni of the Year. Kaylin Manner was crowned Homecoming Queen 2017 during the halftime festivities and the Senior Class won the float competition with their float of Burst Their Bubble.

3 October 2017 Page 3 49th Annual Harvest Festival Draws A Crowd The drizzly weather couldn't keep people away from IWA on Saturday for the school s 49th Annual Harvest Festival. The fun got started with the crowning of the 2017 Harvest Festival King & Queen. In addition to the mini carnival fun there was a gamer bus, inflatables, a silent auction room, and lots of fun vendors to shop from and good food to eat! Final figures are still being tallied but from the looks of it, this fundraiser for the Isle of Wight Academy PTO was a great success! Thanks to everyone who worked in one of the booths, donated items, or supported the PTO through your attendance! Congratulation to our 2017 Harvest Festival King Chase Fleming and Queen Emersyn Dortch.

4 Page 4 Charger Connection IWA Farm Fresh Thanks to all of you for your support of IWA in the Farm Fresh program which allows us to earn FREE educational equipment. For the school year, IWA came in #3 for ALL schools in the Tidewater area for this program! Recently Marc (Theo) Theophelekes Vice President of Operations at Farm Fresh Supermarkets and Michelle Ellis-Young, Manager in Customer Service came to IWA to present everything YOU helped us earn! IWA received 13 Samsung Chromebooks, an Epson Workforce Printer, various packages of posterboard, and a Zoo Animals Ellison Dyes Set. The fun continues this school year- from September 16, 2017 to May 31, 2018 we will be able to earn points from Farm Fresh Food & Pharmacy for valuable educational equipment. All you have to do is shop at Farm Fresh and scan our school s key tag to earn points for our school. Key tags are available in the IWA main office and the IWA Library. Thanks to Farm Fresh for a wonderful program and to all of you! Keep shopping at Farm Fresh and supporting IWA!

5 October 2017 RAK PACK Page 5 A bake sale will be hosted by the RAK Pack on October 24 and 25 during high school and middle school breaks outside of Mrs. Babb's room (E-4). A portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. The RAK Pack is sponsoring their annual food drive from November 1 through December 8. Proceeds will benefit the local Christian Outreach Program. IWA has been asked to collect green beans for the COP to put in their Thanksgiving baskets. In addition to the green beans, students are encouraged to donate a variety of nonperishable foods. Chick-fil-A The RAK Pack will be selling Chick-fil-a beginning November 13 through 16 for lunch on Friday, November 17. Proceeds will be used for random acts of kindness. The RAK Pack would like to ask all students and faculty to wear pink on October 25th to support breast cancer awareness. The RAK Pack is currently selling World Kindness Day shirts online. You can visit the school FB page or missiebabb@iwacademy.com for details. These shirts will be worn on November 13th (World Kindness Day) and proceeds will benefit victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. All IWA friends, family, and alumni are welcome to order shirts.!

6 Page 6 October 2017 Don t forget that the JSCO is recycling plastic bags ALL YEAR long so send in those PLASTIC BAGS when you can! Auction Items Wanted The IWA For The Kids Gala Auction Committee is gearing up for another great event this year so mark your calendars now for March 10, 2018! Our committee is already starting to acquire items which range from stays at vacation homes, sports memorabilia, golf packages, jewelry, and more. If you have an item you would be willing to donate, please contact Mary-Margaret Wells at or marymargaretwells@iwacademy.com. It s an EASY way to help the ENVIRONMENT!
