TROY HIGH SCHOOL WARRIOR WEEKLY November 2, 2018 To quote Charles Dickens from his 1859 novel A Tale of Two Cities, It was the best of times, it was the worst of times On Sunday I began the week attending the World Series with my brother Ray. Being at the World Series for the first time was truly the best of times. However, the way the World Series ended for the Dodgers for the second year in a row was much more like the worst of times. Dodgers fans are going to start sounding like the Cubs did for so many years, There s always next year! Hopefully it does not take the Dodgers as long to win another championship. On a much brighter note, the week greatly improved on Monday when I arrived at Troy. Last Saturday our NJROTC travelled up to Lemoore and participated in the Area 11 Field Meet. Troy Team Red did especially well, picking up thirteen trophies, numerous individual medals and also qualified for the Area 11 Super Bowl on February 2, 2019! Thank you very much to 1 st Sgt. Barnes for these pictures!

On November 11 th we will recognize Veteran s Day, and as it falls on Sunday this year, we have Monday, November 12 th off from school. In the city of Fullerton and many cities across the nation, recognition and parades will occur. In Fullerton the annual Veteran s Day parade will happen on November 12 th and once again our NJROTC will be participating. Also, current Cyber Defense guru and retired Commander Allen Stubblefield will attend for the parade at 10:20am and then is the guest speaker at Hillcrest Park at 11:00am. The city of Fullerton always does a great Veteran s Day event, and it will be another fitting tribute to our veterans. Sometimes it can be difficult to quantify something. In sports, especially a sport like golf quantifying greatness becomes very easy, as the math tells all sort of. Yes, we can tell our Girls Golf team is fantastic by their scores. On Monday our team took their 3 rd CIF title for three years in a row! Many of us have read the very from very proud coach, Mr. Jerry Cowgill about the results from the CIF Southern Section Finals yesterday. For the Girls Golf Team, Halloween carried over into Thursday as they Trick-or-Treated their way around the River Ridge Golf Course and continued to fill up their bags with CIF victories. This latest haul got them a 1st place finish in the Team competition, averaging 4 shots better PER PLAYER than Mater Dei, the 2nd place team. In posting a new CIF

school record 3 over par team score, they move on to the Southern California Championships next Thursday and a chance to qualify for the State Finals. On the Individual side, there were four players to finish at 2 under par, and 2 of them were Warriors! So, junior Sherilyn Villanueva and sophomore Kamille Dimayuga headed for a playoff to determine the CIF Southern Section Individual Champion. All players parred the 1st hole, and all players had birdie chances on the 2nd hole. Sherilyn was first to putt and calmly sank her 20 footer for birdie, then had to watch as one by one the other girls took their turn to match her. All three just missed, making Sherilyn Villanueva the first ever Individual Champion of the Southern Section! Congratulations to this outstanding team as well as individual champion Ms. Sherilyn Villanueva! Keep going Warriors! Troy Tennis continues to compete and is playing at home today against West Ranch! Come out and cheer our team on to the next round of playoffs! X-Country finished a good season but unfortunately our Varsity Boys narrowly missed knocking Sunny Hills out of the championship! So close. Our teams finished 2 nd with Boys Frosh/Soph finishing in 1 st place with an undefeated season! Our Boys Water Polo season ended on Monday as Freeway League champions, but unable to beat a Servite High School Water Polo machine. Last but not least, in a narrow defeat last Friday night, our Varsity football team narrowly missed the playoffs after finishing the season in a three way tie for 3 rd place in the Freeway League. It has been a wonderful fall season, and for all members of our teams, thank you for representing Troy! We are already through the 1 st Quarter of the year, and before you know it, the semester will be over. It is already November, and time starts to go by very quickly after Halloween. If you need extra help, Troy Central is an additional option and is available Monday through Thursday in the library.

Next week we also have our second Blood Drive of the year! As we move into the holidays the blood supply is typically low and the need is high. If you are able to give, this is a holiday gift that truly is the gift of life. Thursday, November 8 th is the date, and sign-ups are available now. Our Vocal Ensemble performed this Tuesday, and we are starting to get into that time of year when our choirs will be very active. As the holidays arrive our choirs have been once again invited to perform in the Candlelight Holiday celebration at Disneyland on December 1 st! This is a difficult event to enter as it is by invitation only and requires a lengthy demo tape that must be recorded by the singers very early in the year. Congratulations to our choirs and their Director, Mr. Mark Henson! I am looking forward to hearing numerous performances this year! On Halloween we held our annual Halloween rally with the NJROTC, Red Hots, and Cheer Squad all performing. We also held our costume contest for students and staff, and then ASB finished with another original horror/suspense film that captured the spirit of Halloween!

Numerous staff members were in costume for Halloween. These were just a few, but there we so many great costumes. Of course every year we look to see what Mr. St. Clair will be wearing and this year he did not disappoint when he arrived as the Skittles man from the commercials. I almost banned him from the costume contest for bringing food into the gym. Fortunately, the glue held. Maria Williams will be sending out a compilation of all the staff costumes for which we have photos for the day. It was a Happy Halloween at Troy! Each year our Spanish students construct Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) posters and then decorate a couple hallways in the 300 building. This year they have done another outstanding job! This year, our French classes joined with the La Toussaint celebration with a graveyard near the 1000 classrooms. Thank you to both Spanish and French students and teachers for spreading some of the celebrations at home and around the world this fall season! It has been a very busy week. I think would be wonderful if we all get an extra hour of sleep this weekend. Lucky us! Remember on Saturday night/sunday morning Daylight Savings

time ends, and we fall back one hour. Do not forget to reset your clocks or you will be very early on Monday morning. Also, do not forget we have a Late-Start on Monday so classes for students do not begin until 9:00am for Zero period and 9:46am for Period 1. Have a fantastic weekend and I will see everyone back here on Late-Start Monday! W.V. Mynster Luna being herself and taking a selfie.
