School Friday 27 th April 2018 WEEKLY NEWS UPCOMING EVENTS Week commencing 30 th April 2018 Return to school Thursday May 3 rd May 2 nd - IGCSE examinations begin 9 th May public holiday IGCSE examinations continue 4 th to 8 th June - KS3 and KS4 internal examinations PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE Dear Parents Last Friday the 20 th April we had a very exciting afternoon where the students displayed their inventions. We had a large number of inventions and ideas on display and it was a very interesting afternoon enjoyed by all the students and a number of parents who came to add their support. This has been followed up this week by World book Week and we had enjoyed activities all week to celebrate books and reading. The Primary students enjoyed a whole day of different activities on Tuesday while the whole school joined in with dressing as book characters on Friday. Next week is a very short week due to the Mayday celebrations and we will be in school from on Thursday 3 rd May. This will be a full school day and we hope all students will be in school. Next week also sees the start of the IGCSE and A level examinations and we wish all the students who are taking those the best of luck for these very important examinations. I hope you all enjoy your Mayday break and I hope to see you all back in school next Thursday Mr. Phillips
NURSERY AND RECEPTION Poems and the sound SH This week Nursery and Reception children learned the sound 'sh' singing The Baby Shark song, practising how to tie their shoes, hand printing a fish picture, and did their everyday reading, writing and counting. They celebrated Book Week and had a very special guest, Bogdan's mom, reading them traditional Russian stories about Kolobok and Turnip in English. On Thursday, they shared their very first poems with other children during morning assembly and Friday, they dressed up in their favourite book character costume.
PRIMARY PRIMARY FOOTBALL PREMIER LEAGUE! The primary premier league season for 2018 kicked off on Friday 20 th April. In this exciting league tournament, each House plays a season of fixtures and the House at the end of the season with the most points is awarded the Premier League trophy. Last season the Bears won the title, but they know they will have to fight hard to retain it second time around (as Chelsea discovered to their cost this season!). In the opening game, the Eagles beat the Bears by 3 goals to 2. Notable in the game was the contribution of Vinicius as captain, helping to steer the Eagles to victory. Alisha and Pavel from the Bears won House Points for their great contribution and sporting behaviour in the match. Next game will be the Tigers vs. the Wolves. Good Luck to All!
WORLD BOOK WEEK Year 1 and 2 have had a fantastic week this week. They have acted out stories, told stories and recreated some of their favourite book covers. The children also worked hard to write, learn and perform their version of Shark in the Park. They finished off the week with reading with year 9 and sharing their book day costumes. Other year groups have also enjoyed the week with many activities taking place all associated with books and reading. Well done to all for a great week of activity.

WHOLE SCHOOL INVENTION CONVENTION Last Friday, the Year 1-9 students took part in the school's first Invention Convention. The children all had to invent and create their own product to help the earth. The process encouraged creativity, problem solving, and innovation. It was a very difficult task, but the students rose to the challenge! The students created amazing inventions - from plastic bag holders, to rubbish collection units, from camping equipment, to water re-usual devices: we saw it all! Congratulations to all the students who created such magnificent inventions. "I was really happy because I could express what I wanted to do in front of people, without having to do only a picture. I learnt that inventions don't always work exactly the way you want them to, but you have to keep trying new things until you succeed and enjoy what you did, even if it didn't work. I was proud that mine worked the way I wanted. Even if it didn't look the way I wanted it to, I still succeeded." Giulia, Year 4 "It was really good. I liked most of the inventions, because they helped the environment a lot. They were all new inventions. It was interesting to learn what you can make from recycled things. I was proud that I invented my invention all by myself. Nobody helped me. I learnt that it's hard to be an inventor, but I still did it!" Milena, Year 5 "I learnt about making things, because I had a lot of ideas in my head. The hardest thing was to think of an invention that could save the earth, that I could make myself. I was proud of my idea, because coming up with the idea I needed was the hardest part. Everyone's inventions were very creative and very good. I had a very good time!" Pavel, Year 6
