1 Crusader Chronicles Step It Up Day of Awesomeness BCA has been so excited to partner with STEP IT UP for our fall fundraiser. Thanks to the hard work of our students, parents and staff, BCA has raised $38,000. With these funds we will complete the new flooring project; install new awnings on each middle school classroom; purchase new ipads for the BCA classrooms and give each grade level money to purchase new resources for their units of instruction. Thank you for supporting your school! Our Day of Awesomeness is now set for Tuesday, October 9 th. All students will participate in this fun day of celebration. The students will enjoy Wipe Out and Ninja Warrior type events. The individual prizes each student earned will also be awarded on this date. The K-3 students will have their celebration from 9:30 until 11:00 and the 4-8 grade students will celebrate their victory from 11:15 until 12:45. We encourage parents to come out and enjoy the fun. Middle School Leadership Conference BCA will be hosting the ACSI Middle School Leadership Conference this year. The event will take place on October 26. We anticipate one hundred visiting middle school students. The students will be taught the value of team building, goal setting and how to help lead their peers from a biblical standpoint. 2 Page 2 Reading with Grandparents Thank you to all the grandparents and special friends that were able to join us for Reading with Grandparents Day. New Advisor Program Begins at BCA We are thrilled to announce the Academy has created a Middle School Advising Program for all students in grades 6-8. This new and exciting program has been designed to create an atmosphere of success for all students. Each middle school staff member and the administrative team has been assigned 5 middle school students. That specific teacher will schedule times to meet with your child to discuss spiritual, social and academic goals and plans. Each time an advisor meets with a student, the parent will receive notification and will be updated on any specific goals that may have been set. The BCA staff plans to begin meeting with students this fall. Staff members being utilized for this program include: Mr. Manning, Mr. Overcash, Ms. Brown, Mrs. Gibson, Mrs. Mangum, Mrs. Carr, Mrs. Warfield, Mrs. Sinclair and Mrs. Barbee. This is a new process for BCA and we are confident it will help us create a stronger sense of faith, family and unity. 3 Page 3 Middle School Retreat BCA middle school and staff enjoyed a great time of leadership and team building at the Triangle Training Facility in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Students participated in many fun outdoor activities all while learning problem solving and team unity. NJHS Induction Ceremony BCA will be honoring our newest National Junior Honor Society Members during a candlelight ceremony on Wednesday morning, October 3. All middle school students, new inductees and their parents, are invited to a breakfast at 7:30 am. The breakfast will be held in the school lobby. At 8:00 am, the induction ceremony will begin. Mr. Tanner Dobson, a former BCA student, will be our guest speaker for this exciting occasion. The NJHS group will organize many events for our school this year. They are responsible for creating two middle school social events, two middle school service events, two middle school educational events as well as organizing Spirit Week and our Singing Valentine Grams. 4 Page 4 Duke Concessions and Sports Update For the past two years BCA has partnered with Duke Athletics to help sell concessions at the football games and men s basketball games. By partnering with Duke we have been able to raise over $28k to go towards helping us build our new soccer field. This year we are aiming towards raising another $18k to be able to put back into a variety of school programs. In order to accomplish this we need your help and support by volunteering for these games. Our upcoming football games will be on 10/20, 11/10, and 11/24. We will be sending out signup genius links for you to sign up. Men s basketball will also begin in October and we will be sending out those dates as well. This is the one fundraiser we do at BCA, that we do not ask you for your money, we simply need your time. Thanks so much for your support and helping us provide a premier education and premier programs for your children. The fall sports season is coming to a close and our fall teams continue to work hard to finish the season strong. We would love to have your support as we compete for conference championships. Cross Country is seeking their 3 rd consecutive TMSC Championship. Volleyball and Boys Soccer are also looking to make some noise in the TMSC tournament to bring home some Gold. Good luck to all of our fall teams and keep working hard! Coach Overcash Mission Operative Day BCA will minister to the Appalachian children during our MO Day on Wednesday, October 24 th at 2:15PM in the sanctuary. Each child will make a gospel bracelet and attach a personal Christmas message to place in a gift bag. We will spend time praying for the children and families who will receive the Christmas backpacks. The collection boxes will be transported to the NCBM for a Christmastime delivery. Each class is invited to collect one of the items to be included in the Christmas backpacks. Our goal is to collect as many items as possible. The Dollar Tree carries most of the items listed. Items may be placed in Christmas boxes in the school lobby. There will be lots of candy, fun costumes and decorated trunks for your child to enjoy. If you would like to participate by decorating your trunk and passing out candy please contact the church and let them know.

5 Page 5 Student Highlights Kaelie starred in her first major theater role, in the Broadway Musical "Legally Blonde Jr.". This was very challenging and like nothing she had ever done. From the intense auditions, to daily practices and three nights of shows, Kaelie put aside her whole summer to pursue her acting dream. She feels extremely blessed to have been a part of this show and this amazing production. Kaelie Goss-8th Grade Luke competed in US Kids Golf World Championships in August at Pinehurst. There were over 1700 kids and close to 50 nations represented throughout the tournament. He had to earn a spot by winning a local tournament series and meeting a scoring requirement. He did this by winning the Raleigh Winter Tour Series and scoring low enough to meet the scoring requirement. He then moved on to be one of 168 boys in his age group from around the globe to compete at Talamore in Pinehurst for the US Kids World Championship. It was a tough weekend of play due to weather and canceled rounds. On day one he posted a 74, his lowest round and tied for 21st. Day two he shot a 77 but due to kids not getting to finish out or start their round they canceled those scores and he had to finish on day three. Unfortunately day three was the roughest but he finished with a solid 81. Overall for the tournament Luke finished 81 out of 168 boys. Congratulations Luke! Luke Mueller-6th Grade McKenzie Mueller 3rd Grade McKenzie competed in the Drive, Chip, Putt contest. A contest in which she completes three drives, three chips and three putts earning points for each shot. She gets points based on how far her drives go. For chipping and putting, points are based on how close her shot gets to the intended target. First was the local qualifier at Finley's golf course, where she had to come in the top three. She won her age advancing her to the sub regional event. During the sub regional at Duke she needed to place in the top two out of fifteen girls to move on. She earned her spot as winner to move on to the regional event. We traveled to Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland to compete at the regional event. She was one of twelve girls and needed to win to move onto the final round. She was determined and placed first earning herself a spot to compete at the Masters in Augusta. She will be one of ten girls nationwide to compete and one of eighty total kids to be invited to the Masters. Look for her on the golf channel April 7. What an amazing accomplishment and a lifetime experience she will never forget.

6 Page 6 Student Highlights Courtney Nicole Fauntleroy is North Carolina s Little Miss Poppy. Little Miss Poppy is the National American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Program to honor our military veterans for their service and sacrifice to our country. Nicole, a Junior member of ALA Unit 166 competed against girls from across the state for the honor to serve as the states representative. Throughout the year, Nicole has and will participate in several Veterans and Memorial Day Programs and will visit several Veterans Administration Hospitals. To promote the Poppy Program, Nicole set up her red/white/blue Lemonade Stand and sold fresh squeezed lemonade on Memorial Day weekend. She also collected & presented toiletries for the Homeless Veterans and Hurricane victims sponsored by North Carolina Central University (NCCU). Representing the ALA Juniors, Nicole presented a donation to the annual Ronald McDonald House Charity Program in Chapel Hill and Duke University Christmas Campaign. On Saturday November 10 th, Nicole will take part in the 2018 Veterans Day Parade in Raleigh, NC. Middle School Field Trips Middle school students will put feet to their classroom experience as they travel to Washington, DC and Williamsburg, Virginia. Sixth and seventh graders will tour our nation s capital. They will tour the Capital building, visit Arlington National Cemetery, enjoy an exciting night time tour of the monuments and visit various museums of their choice. In addition, they will visit the new Bible museum. As they tour the ten most important exhibits in the Bible museum, they will be reminded of the importance of the Bible throughout history. Williamsburg is the destination for our eighth grade students. The day begins with a guided tour of Williamsburg while the afternoon allows for individual exploration. An exciting Hauntings tour concludes their day. Friday morning, the group will travel to Yorktown and visit the American Revolution Museum. An afternoon of fun at Busch Gardens will complete their trip.

7 Page 7 PTF Hoedown Lots of fun was had as BCA hosted its second annual PTF Hoedown last Friday evening. Our students enjoyed bingo, giant Connect Four, and corn hole. There was popcorn, pie, and a smores bar around the firepit. Everyone enjoyed the hayride, square dancing and line dancing. Thank you to our PTF committee for working so hard to provide this very special evening for our school and to everyone who came out and supported this event.
