2 2 Trivia Whiz City of Love Paris became the capital of France in A.D Located along the Seine River, it now covers an area of 41 square miles. Here are a few more tidbits about this celebrated seat of romance: The name Paris comes from its early inhabitants, the Celtic Parisii tribe. The city s most famous landmark, the Eiffel Tower, was built for the Paris Exposition of The tree-lined Avenue des Champs- Elysees has been called the most beautiful avenue in the world. It is home to restaurants, boutiques, museums and nightclubs. There are about 1,200 bakeries in Paris, and most sell the popular bread known as a baguette. The oldest bridge in Paris is more than 400 years old. It is called Pont Neuf, which means New Bridge. Activities for Heart Month American Heart Month has been observed every February since 1964, encouraging people to learn more about heart disease and ways to practice heart-healthy habits. These ideas can help you take charge of your health as well as raise awareness in your community. Wear red. Sport some crimson clothing on National Wear Red Day, the first Friday in February, to show your support for Heart Month. Consider wearing a red ribbon all month long to spark conversation about heart health. Know your numbers. Take advantage of blood pressure checks and cholesterol screenings in your community. Record your numbers and work with your doctor to make any needed changes. Get fit with a friend. Exercise is one of the best ways to help your heart, and it s often more fun with another person. Invite a friend to join you for a walk or to try a new exercise class. Give back. Participate in health fundraisers and events, such as a 5K or blood drive. Honoring Black History February is Black History Month, a time to reflect on the achievements of African-Americans who helped shape our great nation. These heroes will be the focus of several events this month, so check the calendar and be sure to join us. Wit & Wisdom In celebration of February as Black History Month, the following quotations on love are all from African-Americans. Love is indescribable and unconditional. I could tell you a thousand things that it is not, but not one that it is. Duke Ellington The trick is to love somebody.... If you love one person, you see everybody else differently. James Baldwin Love is a special word, and I use it only when I mean it. You say the word too much and it becomes cheap. Ray Charles Love is like a virus. It can happen to anybody at any time. 7 7 Talk About It Fun and Games Games are a fun way to pass the time indoors. Take turns discussing your favorites with a group of friends and family. Did you play board games or cards when you were growing up? What were some of your favorites? Whom did you play with? What games do you like to play now? Have you learned any new games lately? Classic board games such as checkers, Monopoly and Scrabble never go out of style. What is your favorite classic game? Have you ever played arcade games or video games? Which ones? Talk about your experiences. Do you play any games using a computer, tablet or smartphone? Are you a competitive player who likes to win, or do you enjoy playing games regardless of the outcome?
