1 A Glance Back By Maddie Buhrow This year has flown by so fast! I feel as if yesterday was the first day of the school year, and now here we are, halfway through April. So much has happened, and there s a lot of fun that s yet to come! First off, our sports teams have been doing really well this year. The junior high football team won the CYO City Championship; as did the 8 th grade girls basketball team. Congratulations to all of our Jaguar teams; you all have made us proud. Right now, the seventh and eighth graders (including me) are hard at work for this year s drama club production, Seussical! Come see our show in May we ll be performing May 7 th - 11 th in the school gym. Our third quarter came to a close on March 31 st, which, for the eighth graders, means graduation (June 9) is right around the corner. They re celebrating their last year together with a few field trips and special events. The second graders celebrated Jesus Day on April 11 th. Jesus Day is a day of prayer and reflection to prepare for receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Their First Communion will be on May 4 th. Speaking of receiving sacraments, the eighth graders are getting ready to receive the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation, which is on May 18 th. Also, Spirit Week is soon, which means the talent show and other fun activities! He Is Risen! Seuss in the School! By Sabrina Bauman What do you think when you think about Seuss? A boy with an incredible imagination? An elephant who hears tiny people? A bird with a one feather tail? A cat in a hat? I bet you do, and if not, this is your chance! This year the Sacred Heart of Jesus Academy Drama Club will be performing Seussical the Musical. This show is a fun filled mash-up of many of Dr. Seuss s most loved stories, including The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, and many more. In our show, viewers will go on a journey with Horton the Elephant as he discovers and looses Who-ville in the Jungle of Nool, finds love, joins a circus, and hatches an egg. They will meet a young Who named Jojo, and see through his eyes a world of amazing adventures. They will encounter troublesome monkeys, war-crazed generals, birds both plain and extravagant. Accompanied by flashy, funny songs like Amayzing Mayzie, and meaningful ballads like Alone in the Universe, this musical has as diverse a cast and song set as Dr. Seuss s books. As the tale is told by a mischievous cat that sets everything in motion, the audience will learn with the rest of our characters, to help a friend, keep a promise, to never give up, and to always believe in the power of their imagination. So ask yourself this, what do you think? The Curtain Rises for Seussical In the SHJA Gym on May 7-11, 2014 See You There! 1 P a g e
