1 ACTIVITY ONE: Freeze Lion! Kid s Connect Guide November 18, 2015 Pray a game of freeze tag. However, all participants play br crawling on all fours pretending to be lions. The kid or kids who are it are angels that will freeze the lions. Tie the game in by talking about how God froze the lions by shutting their mouth to protect Daniel. WATCH: Bible Story Recap & The Point Review the Point: I R.O.B. fear of its power when I live only for God. ASK: Ask if anyone remembers their verse from Sunday. Give kids the opportunity to recite the verse and motions. SAY: It s okay if you don t remember, we are going to go over it again tonight to make sure we can remember it. ACTIVITY 2: Have kids act out the scenes from Daniel and the lion s den. Daniel refusing to bow down Daniel being thrown into the lion s den. WATCH: Rehearse the Verse Review the Verse: (Proverbs 29:25 NLT) Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the LORD means safety. Go over the verse and the motions with the kids during the video, and, then, again after the video. Then allow kids the opportunity to recite the verse. REVIEW QUESTIONS: Pick a few to go over with the kids 1. Who was darius? A lion, a soldier, or king? King 2. Which word best describes Daniel s character? Dishonest, deceitful, trustworthy Trustworthy (ask kids what it means to be trustworthy) 3. How many times did Daniel pray? None, 1, 2, 3

2 3 4. How did God protect Daniel? Killed the lions, send an angel to shut the lions mouth, brought him to heave Shut the lions mouths 5. How can we talk and listen to God? In complete silence, on the phone, praying and reading the bible Praying and reading the Bible OPTIONAL ACTIVITY IDEA: Daniel and the Lion s Den Two players stand back-to-back and choose one of three poses: Daniel s praying hands, the angry fist of the governor, or the claws of the lion (see photos below). On the count of three both players turn around and compare their poses. The governor beats Daniel (because the governors were able to manipulate King Darius to throw Daniel in the lion s den). Daniel beats the lion (because he trusted in God and God s angel shut the mouths of the lions). The lion beats the governor (because after Daniel was saved, King Darius then threw the governors into the lion s den). In the case of a tie, try again. ACTIVITY GUIDE: THIS IS COLORING SHEET PRINTOUT

3 Give the kids some time to color and do the activities on the Activity Guide if they would like.

4 FILLER GUIDE: If you have a few minutes to kill before groups are over QUICK GAMES: If you have some time, play some games. They can be these games, board games, or any other games you can think of. Make sure everyone is playing safe and everyone is included. Pictionary I Spy If there isn t a piece of paper available, draw something on the ground with your finger, allowing the kids to use their imaginations to guess. (Use simple objects ball, square, sun, etc.) Let other kids take turns drawing Hot Potato You can use a ball if available or pretty much any safe object that s around. Sneaky, Sneaky Designate one child as the leader While hanging out in small group, the leader will do a motion (ex: touch nose, close one eye, sit crisscross applesauce, etc.) As soon as someone sees the leader do the motion, they should copy it The last one to copy the motion becomes the leader for the next round Photo Shoot Allow the kids to cluster together Pretend to be a photographer in different situations Announce the situation to the kids and allow them to pose for the picture Ex: You re about to jump out of an airplane! You just ate a spider! You are meeting the president! You just scored the goal to win the Olympics! Your hair is blue! Freeze Dance Close eyes and allow kids to do their craziest dance moves (Play music if you can). At a random time, say Freeze! Any kids who don t freeze are out! Buzz Bomb Balloon (BALLOONS NEEDED) To begin this Christian children s icebreaker game, have the children stand in a large circle. Give each child a balloon that is not inflated.

5 Place a target in the middle of the circle a large piece of colored construction works well or you can simple put a circle on the floor with masking tape. The children should be about ten feet away from the target. Have each child blow up the balloon and hold it shut. Either give the children different colors or write their initials on the balloons with permanent markers so you can tell who gets closest to the target. When the leader yells, Go! the children are to let go of their balloons and see whose balloon lands closest to the target. If I Were One great icebreaker game that works well If I Were. The group simply takes turns saying statements that begin with If I were... For example, If I were a flower, I would be a daisy, because it is simple and pretty. Some other categories are, If I were a... food, animal, President, song, movie, book, car, airline, city, country, etc. For younger children, it might be best to give the prompt and let them finish the statement. Sometimes you get some really funny statements that will make everyone laugh. Line Tag "It" chases and tags another. These two players hold hands, run and tag together. When the line gets to be four to six people long, split to form two groups. When everyone is caught, they go after the teacher. Leaning Tower of Pisa Provide plenty of blocks or tin cans for children to stack as high as they can in one minute. The highest standing tower wins. Chatter Bee Two players stand back-to-back. At the signal, they face and chatter/talk nonstop for 30 seconds about a specific topic such as a Bible story they recently studied or another familiar subject. Just do two at a time so it's not chaotic. A judge decides who did the best talking. Criteria for the best could be: fewer hesitations, creative, funny, most accurate and informative. Guess Who I Am? The teacher picks a "guesser" to start. The "guesser" faces a wall with his or her back to the group. The teacher points to another person. That person stands behind the "guesser" and says, "Guess who I am?" Funny voices make it harder to guess.

6 The player gets two guesses, and then the "voice" becomes the "guesser." Secret Code (PAPER & PENCILS NEEDED) Give players a piece of paper and a pencil. The leader reads four or five letters and children "break" the code. Example: ZIBOP could be "zebras in Bryan's office play." Everyone reads his or her message. Complete sentences are encouraged. Human Web Form two fairly equal groups. Have each group hold hands, forming a circle, and then have them all walk forward until they are close together and the circle is small and tight. Drop hands. Now each kid should grab any two different hands except for those of his immediate neighbor. This will form a colossal mess! Next comes the fun part! This kids need to untangle themselves without letting go of any hands. They will have to step over arms, duck under, and work at it; but it is fun and challenging! Mummy Game (TWO ROLLS OF TOILET PAPER NEEDED) Select one boy and one girl to become the "mummies" and the remaining volunteers to be the "wrapper." At your prompt to "GO!" the wrappers will begin to quickly wrap the mummies with the entire roll of toilet paper. Encourage them to be careful not to tear the paper. The first team to finish the entire roll wins. Balloon Over and Under (BALLOONS NEEDED) You will need two blown up balloons. Divide the students into equal teams. Each team must stand in a single file line. Hand an inflated balloon to the first person on each time. When you say "GO," they must pass the balloon (you could use something like a roll of toilet paper as well) backwards over their heads to the team members behind them. That person then passes it under -- through their legs -- and they alternate over & under. Whichever team to get the balloon to the last person in line first wins. GET TO KNOW YOU QUESTIONS: Ask these questions to get to know your kids during any free time you have in the lesson.
