4 The Plot Once upon a time, a young prince longed to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfillment. He sought it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, he found it in the simple pleasures of home and family.
5 The Cast BERTHE - Pippin s saucy grandmother. A brassy broad full of wisdom, grace, and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest. (Range: E3 - C5) Catherine - A widow and mother. She is a beautiful and a hopeless romantic, who possesses graceful elegance. Encounters Pippin at his lowest point and eventually falls in love with him.(range: F#3 - Db5 ) THEO (Also Young Pippin + Ensemble 1 st Act) Catherine s irritating, yet loveable little boy, who is the first to help break Pippin of his sour, callous attitude Charlemange - Pippin's demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride.(range: G2 - E4)
6 The Cast Fastrada - Pippin's conniving stepmother. A seductress, who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal, she is both sexy and smart. Skilled at using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son.(range: A3 - F5 ) Lewis - The son of Charlemagne and Fastrada, Pippin s half brother. He is a brutish man, all brawn and no brain. He is described as the perfect soldier: strong and stupid. A male chauvinist mama s boy, with a love of battle, and no clue how close he is to being emperor. Leading player - The ultimate 'ring leader.' Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story and tries to intervene at the end. excellent dancer. Obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience.(range: Db3 - Ab4) Pippin - Our story's young and confused protagonist. He is longing to find his purpose in life. Naive, innocent, and discontent. Eventually finds love, and meaning in life, with Catherine and Theo. (Range: G2 - Ab4 )
7 The Cast The PLAYERS -The acting troupe that builds the scenes, plays all other characters, and provides the sinister aura around the show. They are mischievous, evil, corrupt characters who facilitate the manipulation of Pippin s entire life.
